Some years ago I said multiple times Ted needs to get a couple sports psychiatrists on the payroll, and make talking to them mandatory instead of politely asking a player to stop doing something, which Trotz has done with OV. Also not every coach the Caps fired in the OV era went on to success. I'm willing to bet big money on Oates never being an NHL head coach again

Haha, fair enough. Oates I think is a special circumstances because he was never NHL head coach material anyways. But Trotz will have another job in no time. I'm with you, this club needs something to wake up it's core star players. Ov, Nicky, Carlson, Kuzy, etc. This team has to realize it's make or break time at some point, and that this window of their age and them having any half decent shot at playoff success is closing. It just doesn't seem that way. Maybe they don't care about a Cup, I don't know. None of us are in that room, but as you mentioned there are clearly problems with motivation and psyche.

I was too tired to watch this game. Sounds like I didnt miss much. This team is terrible right now. Only a couple of guys seem to show up every game. Ovie and Wilson are our best players this season. Everyone else sucks. And yes Alta even Carlson.

I'm not saying Oates is a good coach but I think the reason he isn't coaching is more about the way his tenure here ended rather than his coaching ability. Calling out Ovi didnt go over very well and it got him fired.
Trotz has handled Ovi very well. I'm worried another coach won't be able to handle Ovi.
