The Devils did not look good tonight.

No.  Not at all.  They are young so you'd expect some inconsistency, but they just looked like an entirely different team.  We've seen a lot of this from several teams this year.  Vitec certainly didn't help.  Lindy Ruff looked to the sky and said "I can't fucking buy a god damn save tonight"

Grubby got yanked last for Seattle too.  I only watched the 1st period and he looked pretty good - several good saves early.  Dallas scored 1 PPG in 1st then 4 goals in second chasing Grubby out of the net after 5 goals on 22 shots.  ALthough...I can't fault Gruby on any of those goals.  Got some bounces, deflections, and couple sniper shots.  Still....5 goals on 22 shots.

I swear with all the talent on many of these teams, it's going to come down to the team who's goalie doesn't shit the bed on most nights.  Fuck a bunch of goalies
Caps might have missed the playoffs this year, but they are still beating playoff teams....haunting them with their old goalies  :snicker:
Samsonov, Vanecek, and Grubauer all playing BIG roles in their teams' losses.

I was never a goalie hater, but man this year is different.  I don't recall this many goalie issues in the playoffs ever.

I didn't think FLA had the talent to win, but they beat the President Cup Bruins with the best ever NHL record and now up 3-0 against the #2 seed from Atlantic (Toronto).  And they have a solid netminder.

I hope the Oilers show up tonight....and not their Mr. Hyde version.

Nice to see Toronto win a game. I still don’t think they take the series, but at least they kept the brooms at bay.

11:45 and Edmonton is solidly in charge after 2, not sure I will see all of the 3rd

Yep.  With a rookie goalie who hasn't started a game in 2 months.
Looked like they played to cover him....should play that way every game.  Even with that...they certainly don't look like a dominant team that would be a favorite to win the Cup.
I think they're done.  FLA played like they had...three games to spare :-).

Well my Dr Jeckly Oilers showed up and wiped the ice with Vegas in the 1st.  Played solid in the second and coasted through the third.  I managed to hang on till about 8 minutes left and went to bed confident they'd squeak out the win with a 3 goal lead.
When the Oilers are "on" man are they impressive.  McDavid truly is on another level.  I watch them play and especially on a PP watch them enter the zone and think about how much trouble the Caps have breaking into the zone and setting up on a PP.  McDavid just takes the puck from the sling shot blue line and is so fucking fast they just back up and give him the blue line.  He either slows up and passes it off to set up PP plays or roars down the wing and takes it behind the net and sets it up.  It's not just McDavid - they have tons of weapons, but he drives that PP, and his head is always up.  Doesn't look like he's doing much but skating in circles, but he is always scanning for an open man or creating scoring chances.  The oilers "next level" is so far above everyone else's it's almost embarrassing.  Too bad that level doesn't show up a little more consistently.

Looks like Canes and FLA will be fighting for the east.  I'd prefer FLA, but I think they will really struggle against the Canes.  FLA just doesn't have enough offense.  But hey...they said that about Boston too.  I just think Canes have fewer weakness than Boston...or NJ and would be a tougher match up for FLA specifically.  (not that I'm counting chickens yet, but...them chickens is already on the menu)

We shall see

Wow.  Keith Jones new president of operations for Philly.  Didn't know Jonesy was that well respected.  I always liked him as a Caps player, but to me he always seemed very Cap-negative as a broadcaster like he was harboring a lot of Caps hatred.

Good luck Jonesy....just not TOO much

Yep. I don't think FLA can handle the Canes.  I'll be rooting for FLA, but I don't have high hopes.

Pettyangelo suspended one game for his chickenshit slash on Draisaitl.  I get it was 4-1 and Draisatl shot at an empty net, but Petty went after him well after the play and gave him a wicked chop across the forearm.  I mean if you don't want guys shooting at an empty net.....don't leave it empty.  And the game WAS out of reach and his slash could have resulted in a real injury that could take one of the best players out of the game.  It was a bad slash by a sore loser.  No call for this.  Just imagine if Draisaitl had been hurt...BIG consequences to the outcome of the playoffs.  Should have given him two games.

ANd Nurse was suspended one game for starting a fight within last 5 minutes of a game?  Didn't know that was a rule.  It's not like he jumped someone - they were both willing from what I read.
I notice the fascist NHL has conveniently cut both incidents out of the highlights and condensed game replay.  I went to bed  with 7 minutes left or something.  Might have to go back and check the DVR to see if there was more to it than this.

Go Oilers.
Go Toronto (as if)

I hope Seigs isn’t beating himself up over that loss. It was a team loss.

It was for "instigating" (in the last 5 minutes) IIRC. Apparently that's a new rule with automatic suspension.

It'll be a disgrace to NHL fans if the WCF is Vegas vs Seattle. Fucking teams never paid any dues. 1 or 2 years and you're already playing for a cup..  :-|

What a drag.  Fucking Vegas.
I watched the game and honestly thought Oilers had the better of the play a much larger portion of the game.  Both teams had chances, but most of the play was in Vegas zone.  They did clog up the middle zones pretty well, but Edmonton spent more than their share of time in Vegas zone - just couldn't score.  Not blaming goalies here, but 4 fucking goals on 15 shots doesn't cut it (okay, I'm blaming the goalies here).  Vegas goalie had some real ten bellers in this game though.  Other than the first 3 minutes, he played excellent.  How many times did Edmonton pull their starting goalie in this series...or this playoffs?  WAY TOO MANY.
Hockey gods certainly were not smiling on Edmonton last night either.  Lots and lots of chances, but several posts (and many good saves) but no bounces really going their way.

If Edmonton had a real goalie (and Skinner may eventually become it) they could really dominate.
McDavid and Draisaitl are certainly young enough, and I expect much more to come from them, but this feels a little like Ovi and the Caps missing on their best Cup chance years.  I know Oilers made some moves at trade time to get some more D in, and not sure how many they can afford to keep, but they had a pretty solid squad going into the playoffs this year.  I think goal tending ultimately let them down, (as I believe it did last year).  Nobody was solid for more than a game or two at a time.

Didn't help Oilers scored twice (on their first 2 shots)in the first 3 minutes (2:43) of the game and then shutout for 57 minutes in an elimination game.

I watched the entire game and Oilers had many many good quality scoring chances, and outshot Vegas like 41 to 20 or something, but if you watch the condensed highlights, it appears Vegas was the dominate team.  They show like 15 scoring chances for Vegas (4 of which were actually goals) and only like 10-12 for Edmonton, but that is not how the game went.  Ultimately the final result, but makes me think the NHL is editing the highlight to show what they want to portray (or promote), not what actually occurred in the game.  Which I think is ....well shitty.  I don't like it no matter who the victor is.  FFS it's not a reality TV show.  Well I hope that's not what it's becoming anyway.
And what Mick said....Vegas and Seattle - fuck that.  Maybe I'm an embittered old Cap fan, but that's some BS.  Don't turn it into all about marketing and promotion....Leave SOME of it as real hockey.
Fuck Vegas.

Sin city and Commie land?  That would be a Great Western Final.  You think those tree hugging coffee Nazis refrigerate that ice at climate pledge arena with solar power?  I bet not.
I sure as shit hope the climate killing oil pumping Dallas team can beat Seattle.  I don't think I can watch Vegas and Seattle.  I can't root for either team.

On a brighter note....The Hershey Bears are winning in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Got a bye the 1st round, won their second round and are up 2-0 in Atlantic division final
I see McMike, Protas, Malenstyn, Snively, Peppy Le Pew, Iorio &  Vecchione names in the write ups...and Hunter Shephard in Goal.
Hoping this time expands McMike's & Protas's game...they are both still only 22.  Iorio (D) is only 20 and I recall he looked good in camp this year.  We got a few youngins there is hope for.

Anyone know if any of these games are ever televised?

Yeah baby!  I watched this game.  Well....I watched the entire duration of the game with some serious dozing throughout.  Glad to see Dallas win.
Probably rooting for them the rest of the way...DEFINITELY against Vegas.

FLA in the east and Dallas out of the west.  I was really hoping two teams from MUCH further north would advance, but alas...no.

Fuck Vegas  (did I mention that before?)

I really liked what I saw out of Seattle.  Very impressive.  It shows what a team of non-superstars who still have talent can do when they are well coached and all buy in to a smart system predicated on tenacious forechecking.  They simply ran out of gas but the future is very bright for them IMO.  That they looked this good in year 2 shows what a good FO and coaches can do.

They also have what the Caps so sorely lack which is big, yet mobile, defensemen.  Oleksiak, Larsson, Soucy and Dunn all looked good.  We have one big guy who can't skate and won't hit and then a bunch of smaller guys only one of whom (Fehervary) plays physically.  The Caps are deluded if they think minor tweaks are getting this team anywhere.  They need big changes on both defense and up front.  The goaltending isn't all that great, either, from what I saw this season.

Speaking of good management, we all dislike Vegas but you can't sneeze at 4 conference finals in 6 seasons of existence.  The Caps have made the conference finals 3 times in 48 years.

So do we think that George McPhee cut his teeth in 17 years, or whatever, with the Caps and then figured it out when he got to Vegas?

This weekend is the return to North Wilkesboro Speedway!! What they've done to that place is incredible! Hopefully the 40+ year old asphalt holds up. They wanted to repave it, but the drivers convinced them not to.. The rest of the joint looks brand new! Really hope they put on a good show!! Check em' out if you can!
