Shitz about to get real!! Carlson was moved to LTIR. Protas will get sent down. NAK or Snively one gonna have to ride the wire to Hershey and hopefully not get scarfed up. Then they'll still have to scratch someone. Most think it'll be Milano.

I have no faith that management won’t fuck this up. But, maybe they will surprise us.

team news at 1pm: Protas was sent to Hershey

team news at 2pm: Snively placed on waivers

Unless the league is stacked, (or don't pay attention) I don't see how Snively makes it. Who knows though.  :cross:

Snively was a good story and played well in spurts, but I don't think he was great for the long term.

Hopefully, they trade Mantha and get at least a 3rd or 4th round pick, but I bet they have to give him away.  It's frustrating because that guy has 90% ability and 10% desire.  It's almost worth it to keep him for the playoffs and somehow get him motivated.

Kuzy has a lot in common with Mantha.  The fact that he has 6 goals over for the first half of the season is just ridiculous. I really think the coaching staff over the years has not done their job with him.  They let him try to be the best playmaker, rather than a top scorer - which he could be.

Finally, they better not sit Milano.  I'm really liking that guy.

Oh, and Backstrom coming back is going to be a failed experiment. Unfortunately, I think he is not going to be able to hold up physically.  Even if he does manage to stay on the ice, I think his level of performance will not be an improvement over what we have. I hate it, but it's a tough sport.

I’ll be surprised if Backy can play at the level necessary for this league. But then again, we are about to see a 37 year old post back to back 50 goal seasons.

Holy shit, maybe Lavi will ball up and scratch Mantha after all?

I pretty much agree with Beags on Snively.  Nice for the "local" kid to do well, but at age 27, Snively is still just on the cusp of being NHL talent.  Showed some great spurts and maybe he will get moved or waived or whatever at year end and be able to make a less talented NHL squad, but despite liking him, he would not be on my roster with this team.  I could see him at 3c or 4c for another team.  He is a bit undersized for an NHL center.
Not really a large enough sample size with only 18 games - and pretty good stats with 4G, 4A in 18games, but there's a reason he's only played 18g by age 27.

When Malenstyn was sent to Hershey on 12/28 he was still listed on the IR for a couple days. I was just looking at cap friendly and they show him coming off IR on the 28th.

I would have sat 20 and 73, moved 17 to 3rd line pivot and played 39 on wing.   77 and 43 should make up for the goals 73 gets.  HOWEVER, Lars has been playing much better lately

Kuzy had(has?) this same work ethic in the past and was able to turn it around.   Tony, like Protas just doesn't seem to use his size to his advantage. ("....its not the size of the dog in the fight.......")

He better perform or Lavi will be swapping him out for Mantha or Kubel.

They need to keep Eller for the rest of the season in case Backy has a setback. I think they will need another center next season.

Eller gets a lot of grief on these boards, but he's a decent 3c, even for his salary.  He doesn't score much, but he gets a lot of defensive assignments....kind of what Backy used to get.  Maybe they put Eller with Backy to help with that defensive responsibility for that line.
Eller shore isn't the scoring threat on that line  :snicker:

And FWIW I think Strome would make a better wing for Backy

I wouldn't scratch Sheary either.  He is 100% hustle, and plays well (enough) anywhere you put him.

Milano goes from not getting resigned by his own team after his best year -  to not even getting an offer after a tryout -  to NHL unemployed to - grabbed off the street to clear waivers to the AHL to - 1st line wing.  Pretty good turnaround for the kid.  Hopes he makes the best of it.  Still can't believe nobody picked him up before the season started.

Caps need to make the most of these mediocre teams in the schedule while they can.  Caps have played fewer division games than anyone, and seeing that this is the toughest division, those points are going to be harder and harder to accumulate as the season goes on when we are playing real contenders night after night in our own division.

Ouch.

Now I take back all the negative things I've said about dear John  :'(

Okay....I lied there.  Nice story, but he's still overpaid.
