I don't think Hags was really overpaid for WHEN the contract was signed, but I also think his next contract would have been for a lesser amount at this point in his career even if he was totally healthy and NOT had the hip resurface.  He was in the waning years of his career.  The eye injured screwed him. I could see him getting maybe $1.5-2m from a club IF he hadn't had the hip done.  He's still got wheels and he was a good PK guy.  He could be a third liner on many clubs.  Great wheels and good forecheck, responsible, but jut not the scoring touch.

I kind of compare him to Sheary (who signed for $2m x3 with TB), although Sheary is 4 years younger.  Hags had a little more size, but Sheary was fast and all heart.
Also think Sheary had a little more scoring instinct than Hags.  Although Hags is a little more defensively responsible - really just depends what a team is looking for.
Hags has 110G, 186A in 713 games = .415 pts/game
Sheary has 120G, 132A in 531 games = .475pts/game

Also, I think all this is a moot point since the hip resurfacing.  I didn't figure Hags to every play another NHL game after that.  Most of his game was based on his speed.

Rich - just when I was getting over the loss of Sheary.... That guy gave it all every shift and I loved watching him play.  We need more guys like that.

On another note, the rumor mill is turning on a Kuzy trade.  Saw one where they had Kuzy going to Minnesota with us keeping 40% of his salary and taking back a couple salary dumps of Foligno, plus Mojo and we get a 1st round pick from them. If they actually traded us Mojo, that would have to be some kind of record for the number of times the same player gets traded back to one team.  I didn't love the trade, but I did like getting a 1st round pick.

It IS ok.. I mean, I can't stand Truex to be honest.  :snicker:  Though I'd still rather him win than most anyone else not driving for JGR.  :raspberry:

I have his hat, his diecast and his picture (hero card) hanging in my garage. I guess this means that I like him. Glad he’s staying around.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I remember when Gibbs formed an NHRA team back in the ‘90s. Food at the tracks instantly got better. Gibbs sold, or shut that down to start his NASCAR team.

I remember the MBNA dragster, but didn't follow his NHRA team. Was that another of Coy's adventures or was Joe heavily involved as well?
And why'd the food get better?

McDonalds became a big sponsor of Gibbs NHRA team, and track food had step up to compete. Kinda sad actually.

Yeah, Sheary was my kind of player.
As far as Kuzy...it would be lovely to move an undermotivated, high contract plaher and get something worthwhile in trade...especially for our future, but I really wonder what the Caps can do this year if they move Kuzy.  I mean we have Strome, who I like, but he's barely a 1c/2c.  Backy is at very best a question mark and shadow of his former self.  Dowder is...well a 4c.  Protas isn't ready for 1c/2c action, don't think McMike is either.  Am I missing somebody?  Too bad Wilson isn't a center.

So (if rumor is accurate) we'd basically end up with the same, if not more, salary. Give up a 1-2C in return for 2 LW's and a 1st round pick?  Makes sense if there's nothing to play for and you're just rebuilding, but we know Ovi's goal record is what this team is all about for the next 2 years. That hurts that effort, imo.

Kuzy will be looking for 1 more contract.. I'd expect his motivation to be on the uptick over the next 2 years. I'd just keep him, if there's no significant salary dump or a play making C in the exchange.

Even though you're wrong about Hamlin [j/k .....ish], I think you're right and we have to ride the Kuzy train for two years and hope his head gets straightened out by his desire for another contract.  Same for Mantha.

Pretty much agree - or at least that's how I figured Kuzy.  He has the potential to be great again, and dumping salary is one thing, but I think management tried and failed to get even close to something worthwhile so they will hold onto him.  I don't think getting rid of him at any cost is a worthwhile notion.
Even if/when he underperforms, he will have a 55-60pt season, and I don't see any other centers (excluding Strome) doing that for us this year.
Mantha...ooooof.  Dude just needs to play to his size.  Maybe he'll have a great season....he is definitely due.  The dude has some good hands.  Maybe all the bounces will go his way and he scores 25 goals this year.
maybe....maybe....maybe

I heard (read) Mantha lost 10lbs in the offseason. Said he's worked hard and will be more engaged or some shit. Hopefully he pulls it together.. Dude has all the tools, just needs to use them.

Truex fan, and I will be watching. By the way now that he and Sherry have parted ways, anyone have the scoop on a new girlfriend? That’s ok, after looking it up it seems at the present time he has none.

Yea, never got the story on his new lady. He seems pretty reserved and not much for social media.
