Shit happens.

This was a brutal month for the team.  Quite a bit of tough competition.  A 7 games in 11 day stretch.  Lots of travel.  10 on the road versus 5 at home.  And they basically played the schedule with half a dozen rookies/callups in the lineup.  And basically two breakdowns:  The Kraken game at the end of the intense stretch, and the 3rd period tonight.

Take 9-4-2 and be happy.  20 out of 30 standings points for the month is essentially a 110-point pace for a full season.

But we do need to get the team healthy at some point.   Otherwise we will cave a lot more significantly later in the season.

I wish you'd come and join us in our GDT's and not just when the games over.

I have loads of stuff to do tomorrow and I'm bloody wide awake now.

This is what happens when you stop forechecking, skating or hitting for a whole period.  You play reaction hockey and you're always a step behind.  Then you take dumb penalties.  Laviolette had the right idea with the timeout but whatever was said apparently didn't sink in.  That's just an inexcusable loss after totally dominating for 2 periods.  You gotta feel bad for Sammy who was left to try to win it by himself.

The speed and stamina of the young guys is why they're looking as good as they have.  If we send out a bunch of them to put Backstrom, Mantha, etc. in the lineup, we'll start losing a lot of games we might otherwise win.  There just comes a time when the vets can't do it by themselves anymore.

Wayne, when the text shows up tiny, just hit the modify button, highlight everything, and click the font 10pt. and save.

And I agree, not sure we're gonna be any better when we bring back vets who are slow and need space to make anything happen. Oshie I feel is fine, but Nicky and Mantha could be an issue. Hope Im wrong.

Also agree. The dump the puck and either ice it or go off on a line change, so the next line can stay hemmed in the zone, not skate, lose every board battle then dump and rinse repeat is a losing strategy. Always has been. When the opposing team has 2x the goals as you have shots, it's embarrassingly sad. Can't even wrap my head around it. Burn the tape and hope nobody saw it.

Shitty result and shitty to watch (if you are fortunate enough to do so), but...like BlackIce said....

You ain't going to win them all and you are going to throw a stinker now and then, and we were overdue.  Could be a bit of fatigue as well.
Sucks to throw away a game after pretty much having it well in hand though.

What scares me is ....Ovi who is having his best year ever, and and the rest of the stars who are all playing very well right now, will slow down and have dry stretches so we definitely DO need to get some other guys back healthy.
It's great to see Ovi scoring so well, but he's on pace for  67 goals and 64 assists for a 131 point season.  Nice to dream, but he will not maintain that.  Even his shot percentage is way above normal so far this season  19.4 vs a career 12.9
Same goes for Willy - on pace for 28 goals/ 53 assists.  30 goal season would be nice but he has yet have more than 22g or even a 45point season much less an 80 point season.  His highest ever was 23g and total of 44 pts and only 40 pts or more twice.
Kuzy 7g/27A on pace for 25g,71 A.  He is certainly a skilled enough guy to have a 90-100pt season, but is it likely?  Even the cup year he only had 21g/51a for 83 pts.

I realize the missing stars will pick up some of that scoring.  Oshie is a career .71 pts/game guy and Backy is .969 pts/game guy and they together have missed 15 and 23 games so...Backy should have provided 6g and 16a so far and Oshie 15 games should provided another 4g and 6 assists (to his 4g/3a in the 8 games he played)

I am certainly very pleased with the teams record overall and happy to see a slew of young players playing AND actually making a difference.
I have been wanting Fever to get full time play since last year and he has been exceptional so far this year.  Better than I expected and much more physical.  His excellent play has made a huge impact on the hole in guys we lost on D  (Chara, Dillon)

Despite their age, when 3 of your top 6 guys are all LTIR, it's excellent to be hovering around 1st place in the league.

The loss against Seattle can definitely be blamed on the schedule, the guys looked tired halfway through the game. The loss last night is because they started the 3rd by sitting back on their heals against a good team and couldn't get the momentum back.
