They're being hush hush apparently. Even about the goalie, who everyone thinks/knows will be Sammy.

it appears Vecchione is destined to be an AHL player, he had all of 5:00 TOI against the Canes….

the Rags play the Canes tonight, if the Rags and Caps win tonight suddenly 1st place in the Metro for the Caps would be achievable. Not that it matters.

OV has 39 goals this season, when he gets 40 he will tie Gretzgy for the most 40 goal seasons at 12

apparently Hagelin is going to have a second surgery on his eye this week, doesn’t look good for a return to play this season

Read that Oshie was on ice after practice, normally meaning he won't play. Irwin didn't stay, which normally means he will play.. So, most likely a 11-7 tonight. VV will be in goal.

I’d like know the real reason he was traded. I thought he played well here.

Ron Francis GM at Seattle says it...."the player Washington wanted to give back to us"  so to me...that says they WANTED Mojo and Sprong was what we had we were willing to give up (which is probably why the picks)

Really though, it was a team atmosphere thing....Caps just couldn't  stand him wearing the wooden shoes in the locker room and hotels.

wait for it.... :snicker:

Spronger does have that wicked release.   He was playing on the 4th line though....only got about 10 minutes of ice.  Good for him....I don't see him as 4th liner, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

Larsson practiced in a no contact sweater today, team management thinks it’s going to be a week before he plays

not entirely sure, could’ve been a depth move more than anything

Larsson and Mojo both were picked up with previous teams carrying 1/2 their salaries., which was an absolute necessity for the Caps.  (Also might be another factor why Caps had to give away pics for Mojo/Spronger trade)
Caps even with all the injuries are hard up against the cap.  The LTIR salaries don't count while on LTIR, but as soon as they come back they do, so it's really only a very temporary relief from our Cap problem which instantly returns with the player (until the playoffs then there is no cap - ahem...Lightning)
Caps have zero cap space....okay...$180k
They are currently using 3,319,166 of the 3.5m of Hags LTIR money, so they can't afford his return until the playoffs even if he were ready and I don't see how he can return if he's having another eye surgery this week.
So ....they HAD to have teams retain salary in order to get guys at the trade deadline  (since we won't trade away any big contract guys)
Mojo is at 750k and Larsson is $700, so they really are budget pick ups.  I could see them extending Mojo a year at 1.5 next year depending on what happens with Hags.  I expect Larsson is as depth guy and 4th line guy maybe to fill in for some of Hags duties.
Mojo I think is an insurance pick up who can fill spots up and down the lineup, and be there for the next time Oshie stubs his toe or someone else gets hurt.

Money is their main problem with trying to improve this team.  They can't afford to do anything and seem unwilling to part with any high dollar guys (ahem paging Johnny Q).
Also....all the guys making big dollars have some kind of modified No-trade clauses.  Certainly those can be worked around, but it just adds another difficulty in trying to move a $8m dollar guy.  There are only so many teams able or willing to afford Johnny Q (or others).  Not like we have a bunch of juicy picks to trade along to offset that salary in a trade.  And as much as we all complain about him - he would be missed - he plays tons of important minutes.

We'll see what happens after this years playoffs.  I expect they pretty much try and keep the band together yet another year.  Hopefully I'm wrong and we do something in the offseason that has a big positive impact on the future.

Fucking Oshie is still out..  :-\ Dude's become a liability, with his inability to stay healthy at 5.75m.. Mojo still on the top line.. He had like 1 adrenaline shift, when the game started, then didn't see him the rest of the night. Irwin/Schultz.. Oof.  :)  Oh and Sammy will be in goal.

16 games left in the regular season, Caps are now 5 and 6 points behind the Rags and Hens. The Rags spanked the Hens last night 5-1.

Canes  91pts
Hens   88
Rags   87
Caps   82

Columbus is in 5th with 68 points, looks like the playoff teams are set for the Metro. The teams are definitely set for the Atlantic…

Panthers  92 pts
Leafs       85
Bruins     85
Bolts       84
Detroit    59

Vancouver is 3 points behind Vegas for that wildcard spot, heck of turn around for Bruce

Devils at Caps at 7, everyone expects Vtec to start tonight

3:45… none of the normal team sources have posted anything about tonight’s lines. The places I primarily use for opponents lines show the Caps as same as last night, except for Vtec is in

They really should scratch Eller when Dowd returns. But they won't.. It'll be AJF or Cmac. See what tomorrow looks like. Hopefully they didn't pick up any new wounded over the weekend.

* Monday morning edit: Thought they'd done it, until I seen him listed on the LW.. Lines look pretty good now. I'd probably try Sheary with Cmac and Mojo, but we'll see tonight..
