Edmonton whooped Calgary last night. I think maybe this is the worst display of goaltending I've seen so far. 21 seconds in - Edmonton dumped the puck in behind net, GT went in and "attempted" to pass it to the corner where his D was waiting, but instead passed it right into the faceoff circle where an Oiler was charging in. Right on his stick and right into the open net. Ooh-Fah. To be fair the LW previously had a chance to get it out at the blue line and failed and the Oiler D dumped it in behind the net.
Calgary had more shots in the 1st and some good chances, but Edmonton's transition is so fast, they are just dangerous ANY time.
Edmonton scored a PPG goal about halfway through 1st and then Kane scored with about a minute left in the first making it 3-0. Kane scored on a failed clearing attempt by Calgary. Honestly - it looked like the Caps trying to clear the D zone at times, just swarmed by the opponent. Calgary is big and fast, but damn Edmonton is all over them.
It was a turnover and quick drive shot to net, but not a great goal for the GT - probably one he wants back.
Calgary came back and with A PPG goal about halfway into 2nd, then scored again 36 seconds later - BACK IN THE GAME.
and then....the WORST playoff goal I've seen since maybe Jason Chimera's 180' slapper a few years ago.
Calgary D man from behind his OWN blue line fires on down (in the air) toward Edmonton net and Smith just was napping or didn't see it or I don't know what. It goes in under his catching glove. He kind of half-ass swatted at it after it went by. And it was a short-handed Game tying goal. Shees - it's like a clown show with these two goalies. Seriously looks like the Caps this year. Smith was have a pretty good game and then this. His rebound control sucks, but Edmonton is pretty quick to react and cover.
Both these teams are fast, but Edmonton is just so quick - they are ready to strike at any time. Their goaltending is suspect for sure, but man can they score. It's crazy watching these two teams cause they would have absolutely destroyed the Caps. Edmonton is like a relentless speedy wave of guys that just keep coming and coming. Calgary is no slouch and they provide plenty of offense, but they seem to struggle clearing their own zone at times. These games are pretty fun to watch. I wonder how well they will do when they face a team with a great GT. I think that might be Edmonton's only weakness in my short time actually getting to watch them play.
Go...Oilers...I guess
