Vegas fired their coach today. That’s Vegas, Winnipeg, Detroit, Montreal and Pilly that will be needing a coach next season, and the coach for the Panthers is still the “interim”. I don’t think Trotz will be out of work for long.

The Islanders named Lane Lambert as their new head coach.

I'm always a little surprised when a team fires a coach and then hires one of his assistants to take the job.  Not so much during the season, but in the off-season without even testing to see who's on the market?

Good God, but can the McDavid guy play.  He is fun to watch.  If Edmonton had a good GT they could actually do something.  I know nothing of their goalies, but I watched most of that game and at least some of those (7 goals that mattered) were what I'd call weak goals and have to be stopped.
First one was definitely weak.  Second scored at :51 of the first, then third at 6:05 wasn't a great goal.  3 goals on 8 shots (I think).  Sounds like our GT.

Still.....down 6-2 midway through 2nd period and then Edmonton scores 4 unanswered goals to tie it in roughly 12 minutes of time?

Granted Edmonton gave their goalie NO HELP, and they were totally outshot, but oof....you got to stop some of thems.

And Fucking Lightning score with like 3 seconds left to win?  Total breakdown in front and WTF was FLA doing?  The look on coach's face (Brunette) says it all.

Glad to see Blues win a game - I like Berube.  Don't think the Blues have enough to beat the Avs though.

I hope he goes home to Winnipeg and it works out for everyone there.  Not that I want him as our coach at this point, but I'd prefer he's not coaching against us in our division or in the East

If I was Blaney and I ended up losing that last lap, nascar would’ve pulled my license over my post race comments. As it was I probably would’ve been fined.

Holy Cow Batman.  Edmonton looked FAST last night.  I mean they always look fast, but they were running circles around Calgary.  It was like 30 shots to 10 about 8 minutes into the 2nd period and 3-0.  It could have easily been 5-0 or more.  Very exciting game to watch...Edmonton crowd was into as they should have been.  McDavid put on a clinic last night.  Kane got a naturally hattie, but it was McDavid (and Drysaddle) driving it.  That McDavid guy is something else.  He has SO much speed, I just don't know what you do with him as a defensemen.  McDavid is just far and away better than anyone on the ice.

The grandpa 40 year old goalie they have (Smith) looked great last night.  No idea what their goalie situation is.  Smith only started about 29 games this year so not sure how they got to this point or if the other guy was the #1 and fell apart or what.  I missed it but apparently Lucic crushed him on the boards and then the GT had to leave for protocol.  He did return after and finish the game.  Lucic got 5 and a game for it.  Although watching on replay, Lucic definitely let up and didnt' just plow thru him.  He deserved a penalty but I think prolly not a Major.  But since it was Lucic.....

Edmonton is fun to watch.

the presidents trophy curse continues

I tired of fucking Tampa Bay.  Florida totally outplayed them for most of the game.  Outshooting them 29-9 halfway through the game and then 49-25 overall.  Could not solve Vasilevskiy.
GWG was a weird bounce....and then an empty netter in the last minute.  TB actually had two goals disallowed (as they should have)  FLA had lots and lots of chances, but nothing going in the net.

Looks like Avs are going take the Blues in 5 games.  Blues starting GT went down in game three and they have battled, but I think losing their GT was a  BIG nail in the coffin.  Avs are totally outplaying them and Blues can't quite keep up.  I was routing for the Blues as I like the coach (Berube)

I'm actually watching/following more playoff hockey this year.  Normally I lose about 95% interest once the Caps go down (so normally I'm done in the 1st round  :smirk: )

I'm pulling for Edmonton.  Not sure why.  Tired of TB, Avs, don't care for NYR.  I guess in the east I'd pull for Carolina.  I'd be okay with either Edmonton or Calgary in the west.

Go Oilers

Calgary won the Cup in ‘89, Edmonton in ‘90 and Montreal in ‘93. ‘93 is the last time a Canadian team won it. I’d be fine if a Canadian team won this time, and it’s looking like they might.

The last time the Leafs won was ‘67  8-0

Yes, I was surprised when I saw the last time Toronto won even a 1st round playoff series was like 2004.
And FLA has never won a cup (in their lengthy 28 years) and only made the playoffs 7 times before this season.  Did make it to the cup in 1996
I'm not sure Edmonton has the GT to go all the way, but when you score 5 or so a night...we'll see.

Edmonton whooped Calgary last night.  I think maybe this is the worst display of goaltending I've seen so far.  21 seconds in - Edmonton dumped the puck in behind net, GT went in and "attempted" to pass it to the corner where his D was waiting, but instead passed it right into the faceoff circle where an Oiler was charging in.  Right on his stick and right into the open net.  Ooh-Fah.  To be fair the LW previously had a chance to get it out at the blue line and failed and the Oiler D dumped it in behind the net.
Calgary had more shots in the 1st and some good chances, but Edmonton's transition is so fast, they are just dangerous ANY time.

Edmonton scored a PPG goal about halfway through 1st and then Kane scored with about a minute left in the first making it 3-0.  Kane scored on a failed clearing attempt by Calgary.  Honestly  - it looked like the Caps trying to clear the D zone at times, just swarmed by the opponent.  Calgary is big and fast, but damn Edmonton is all over them.
It was a turnover and quick drive shot to net, but not a great goal for the GT - probably one he wants back.

Calgary came back and with A PPG goal about halfway into 2nd, then scored again 36 seconds later - BACK IN THE GAME.

and then....the WORST playoff goal I've seen since maybe Jason Chimera's 180' slapper a few years ago.

Calgary D man from behind his OWN blue line fires on down (in the air) toward Edmonton net and Smith just was napping or didn't see it or I don't know what.  It goes in under his catching glove.  He kind of half-ass swatted at it after it went by.  And it was a short-handed Game tying goal.  Shees - it's like a clown show with these two goalies.  Seriously looks like the Caps this year.  Smith was have a pretty good game and then this.  His rebound control sucks, but Edmonton is pretty quick to react and cover.

Both these teams are fast, but Edmonton is just so quick - they are ready to strike at any time.  Their goaltending is suspect for sure, but man can they score.  It's crazy watching these two teams cause they would have absolutely destroyed the Caps.  Edmonton is like a relentless speedy wave of guys that just keep coming and coming.  Calgary is no slouch and they provide plenty of offense, but they seem to struggle clearing their own zone at times.  These games are pretty fun to watch.  I wonder how well they will do when they face a team with a great GT.  I think that might be Edmonton's only weakness in my short time actually getting to watch them play.

Go...Oilers...I guess

Geez.  I watched his exit interview and he wouldn't say shit about it.  Just kept saying it was a substantial injury.

That blows.  About the only guy worth watching on this team....Him and Kuzy when he's on the proper meds....and Ovie of course.
That hurts....just gonna complicate the already overburdened cap....They gonna trade for some mediocre winger to fill in, then when Tom comes back they will have to clear cap space.
