Caps in 2nd with 73 pts and 3 to play
Boston in 3rd with 71 pts, 3 to play
Isles in 4th with 68 and 2 games left


Caps and Shitsburgh can finish no less than 3rd place
Isles can finish no higher than 3rd
The rest is.....kind of toss up.

Caps prolly have the best chance at 1st place with three games to go and 2 games in hand on the Hens but really any of the three could end up anywhere 1, 2, 3.

Most likely...it stays just as it is or maybe Caps/Hens swap 1 & 2.  Caps play Philthy twice and end with Boston last game of year.  Beating Boston in the final will likely cement at least 2nd place for the Caps, but we shall see.


Shitsburgh plays Buffalo so...they likely end up with 77 pts.


If Caps win 2 of last 3 games (in regulation), they would also have 77 Pts.  Both teams would have 77 pts but the Hens would have 37 wins to Caps 36, but the Caps would have 30 RW to the Hens 29.  I looked it up and RW is the 1st tie breaker, so Caps need to win 2/3 to end up #1 in the division.

Oh, and when Shitsburgh beats Buffalo, Boston can't possibly get the #1 spot.


The only way Caps draw SHitsburgh in round 1 is if SHitsburgh loses to Buffalo, AND Boston wins all three remaining games, AND the Caps lose at least 1 game (which they would have to for Boston to win all 3)  THat would put Boston 1, and Hens/Caps 2/3.

I think they are on the Shit list...not the Covid list, but I imagine that's a dangerous game to play with the league.  I'm sure there are all kinds of rules regarding faking Covid for cap reasons.  That and the NHL couldn't really give two shits about it other than public perception.


I'd put money on it that if Caps were not playoff bound Kuzy would be gone already.  I guess that's not really possible with trade deadlines, etc, but....  Coach L doesn't seem to really have any tolerance for Kuzy's shit despite his talent.  And Kuzy has already twice been in the doghouse.  Eventually you got to cut bait and I think coach has reached that point with Kuzy.  That and the glaring cap problem are leaning me toward Kuzy not being a Cap next year.
I think the only way that does not happen is if Kuzy wakes the fuck up and becomes the SC MVP and leads this team to a cup.  Short of that....I think he's toast.


Good on Lavi.  If he can kick Kuzy to the curb for shennanigans, it should send a serious message to everyone.  Sammy may not be that far gone and we need another Goalie.


Caps are already short on C though, so offseason means they need to find at least a solid 2c.  Either that or they think McMichael is ready to be thrown into a top 4 spot which is tough for a young C.  Not that many McDavid types out there.  Such a shame with Kuzy - he could be phenomenal for this team

Yea, they already HAD covid, (at least Kuzy did) so they don't have it again. But since the NHL is the NHL, they still have to follow distance/mask rules which probably ended them up on the "protocol" list. And yea, it's a good way to create cap space.

With 2 days off after tonight, not sure why they didn't just go with VV again.. Seems he'd give us the best chance, but whatever.. We better get a lead. Team has zero resiliency or push back. Even when we do happen to come back it's not because we made some push and grind out a goal(s). It's always just a goal off transition, deflection or something. Other teams hem us in our own zone for what seems like minutes at a time when down goals, but we go about running up and down the ice like chickens with our heads cut off.  Can't wait for the playoffs!

Moving Copely to Taxi is interesting.  That tells me Sammy is still days out from return (or won't return before Tuesday).
I was assumed Vitek would be in net for Boston with ANderson as backup and I guess Copely is just emergency backup....so maybe it's just for the one game until Sammy is ready. Or are they just fed the fuck up with Sammy and planning on him not playing the rest of the season (or ever)?


And I'm curious....Have not ALL the players been vaccinated and isn't the NHL letting up on protocols as a result?

Rags beat Isles making end of season just a bit more interesting..


Hens have locked up 1st, Caps have locked up 2nd, but....


Boston lost and Isles won so Isles are now only 1 point back so they play Boston Monday and could jump over Boston into 3rd with a regulation win (isles last game).


Boston then plays the Caps the following night....and if Caps win (and the Isles win Monday) then Isles end up in 3rd and Boston 4th. 


Monday Isles vs Boston should be interesting.  If Boston beats the Isles Monday, then Tuesday's game is completely meaningless for everyone.


Any word on when playoffs start?  I assumed with a condensed season we'd be staring sooner (by the weekend) but some teams out west still play Wednesday.  Last game in the east is Caps/Boston on Tuesday.  Everyone else in the east is done Monday - except Hens and Rags finished Saturday


Shocker the Hens finish the season the soonest so get the most rest before playoffs.  So unlike the NHL to provide any type of favorable scheduling for Hens or Rags.


Central is also all done with one last game tonight.


Most of the playoff teams are set with very little room for any changes.  Tampa Bay has lost 2 and FLA has won 5 in a row so FLA is 2 points up on TB for #2 spot.  Both have one game remaining.  Tampa must win and FLA lose and Tampa wins the Tie breaker to put them back into 2nd.  They will be facing each other come playoffs no matter what so only thing to decide is who starts at home.
In the North, Winnipeg (59) and Montreal (57) could flip flop for 3/4 spots and technically Calgary (49) could still get in by winning all last 4 and Montreal loses last two ending them tied in points, but that's unlikely.


Anyway....enough jibber jabber for the boredom thread.  WTF do the playoffs start?

The NHL hasn't said much about how players get put on the wuhan list. There's more to it than just testing positive or breaking protocol. When the NFL started back up last year they had quite a few problems with players getting false positives. That's why I want to know what test/s the NHL is using, but appearently it's a secret
