Backstrom and Caps talking new contract.
« on: Tuesday November 26, 2019, 07:22:10 PM Eastern »
I've read that the caps and Backstrom have started talking about an extension. I was thinking something around 7.5-8 mil would be fair over 3 years. What do others think? I feel like if backstrom is resigned, holtby certainly will not be and may not be regardless.

Yep, GMBM has screwed the salary cap.  His overpaying for too many years is gonna cost is Holts for sure, and will make resigning, or signing RFAs and/or UFAs very difficult.

As they’ve all but written off Holts, this leaves us relying on two young/rookie goaltenders, with almost 16 mil spend on two players that can’t play D.

Carlson and Orlov play D.  Don't you listen to the experts?  Carlson is our Norris candidate for crying out loud?  :raspberry:

Oh....wait....did you not mean Carlson as part of that 16mil you mentioned?

the NHL in all their wisdom has said the Seattle draft will not change from the Vegas draft, which means the Caps can only protect 10 players plus a goalie. I wouldn't worry about the cap mess until after the league fucks all the teams, again

to make it more fair, teams should be able to protect 12 players plus a goalie, there is absolutely no reason the new team should be stacked to win in their first year

I have a feeling he was referring to Kuznetsov and Orlov if I had to guess.

I totally agree.
That Vegas draft was unfair and unlike previous drafts. Vegas got the best (for them) expansion draft rules ever given to a team, which contributed greatly to them going all the way to the final in their first year. It sucks we have to go through that again, though this year it may end up culling necessary $$$ from our cap and making a tough choice for us.

As you all know, I really liked Nate Schmidt and hated to see him go. No one ever blamed the NHL of having any loyalty to fans. They got what they wanted in that Vegas became an instant hockey town with dedicated fans. They couldn't give a shit less about the other teams.
Be careful what you ask for America; you just might get it.

Vegas has been pleading for a pro team in any sport for years, they would become an instant baseball town if they get a team
