It really is a joke because the Pens use their stick more than any other team in the league and that is what they are "supposed to" be cutting down on.  Now, in the 3rd, the refs will put away their whistles.  And the Pens will commit multiple infractions like usual.

It really is same bullshit different year.  Pucks deflect in all the time for them -- ours don't get through from the point.  Skill?  I doubt it.  A lot of luck and it never goes our way.  It's infuriating to watch them spend 8 minutes (including the carryover) on the PP in that period.

Connolly goal deflected off them in the first. That would be a bounce that went our way. The big problem is the Pens just roll with it and play their way. They dive, they whine, but they still play hard fast hockey. If they are down by 2 they don't hold their heads. We do. The refs may not help but when things don't go our way we can't look defeated. We don't need the refs to win a hockey game we need to play every shift like it's the last and we never have that sense of urgency. Or rarely. When we do we have strong shifts.

As bad as the officiating has been, the Caps are not helping their cause much by gliding around the ice thinking about golf.  We stand no chance unless we wake the fuck up and play hard and fast.  The Penguins appear to want it more than we do. 

The problem is that Kuznetsov and Backstrom are not playing hard enough or well enough and Crosby/Malkin are controlling the center.  They have to play harder and better in the 3rd for us to have a chance.  Ovie is playing hard but without Willy they are not going to be strong as a line if Kuzy doesn't play well.  Oshie and Stephenson are playing well but they need Backstrom to step up in the 3rd.  And Smith-Pelley needs a seat in the press box.

Lars Eller been our best center all playoffs long on a consistent shift to shift basis. While you are right they aren't playing as strong, part of our problem is that Backy/Kuzy have to help out defensively so much. Backy especially. Our D has serious problems with their forecheck, especially Carlson and DJoos. C forward has to come in and help the breakout even if the Pens forecheck with 1 or 2 players. Our breakout has been trash all game because of it, and instead of focusing on just getting it up and dumping we spend time in our own boards passing it back and forth to fine lanes to break out.


Ovie had a few strong shifts but generally he hasn't worked the boards well enough. With Wilson out guys don't realize it's not just hits we lose out on, it's a great PK player and a great board player. We need everyone to step in to do that type of work now.

Deflected goals happen all the time.  Most of the Pens goals have been deflected.  I don't think the Caps have hung their heads this series.  Their responses have been great.  Down 1 in the first they scored 2 times to go up 2-1.  A late bullshit penalty and they started the second down a man.  Then 3 calls against them wore down the team and they never got their players on the ice balanced out.  When we kill penalties Ovie and Kuzy sit.  I disagree that our attitude has not been good this year.  Look at game 3 when we came back from a goal down 3 times to win at the end.

Regardless of how you get there (good calls or bad) it's hard to play your game when you are shorthanded 1/2 the period.

On the radio they are saying the tripping call on DSP was TOTAL BULLSHIT and said the previous call was total BULLSHIT as well. So the experts are seeing it the same as most of did here.  They said the man DSP supposed to have tripped actually fell down completely on his own. That's what I saw.  I have very good eyes and am very rarely wrong in what I see.

This game has thus far been handed to the Hens.

Exactly, Pitts first and third goals were deflections. 
We're being told this is a "different Caps team" by the Caps Gametime crew before the puck drop.  That "there's a confidence among the team" they hadn't seen before.   Ok, let's see it.  Let's come out in the third and take control of the series.   Or, the Caps we all know and love, will turle up, tighten up, curl up, and be Pittsburgh little bitch.  The choice is on the players to make a difference.

We can't whine. Trotz tried it a few times and refs give us bench minors for it. That is what is supposed to happen but because the league loves the Pens they get away with literally whining when ever anything, literally anything, doesn't go their way. They can be up 5-0 in a game and when they take a legit penalty they still whine.

when I say management needs to complain about the officiating, I don’t mean Trotz during the game. He hasn’t done that his entire career, doubt he will start now. I mean in the post game interviews for a start, and by now the front office should have enough material for a five hour power point presentation showing the bias. Invite buttman out for an “arena” announcement and hit him with it. Right between the eyes.

It is really apparent how things ripple with Wilson out of the lineup.  First line is impaired.  Gersich is not ready for this so the 4th line is impaired.  You bust up one line to move someone up so that line is impaired.  The league really fucked us over big time with 3 games.  That was so over the top of a sanction for what was an arguable hit.

That the Pens dive all the time? That they are trained to dive in any situation that looks like it's a close call, and it's a big reason why the calls go their way? That combined with them treating every call against them like bullshit means the refs pay TOO MUCH attention to things and it manipulates the call of the game.


I earnestly am not of the belief the refs are biased, more so that the Pens push the buttons of the refs correctly. I do think there is some bullshit there, but it's not like even the refs don't acknowledge they dive. They do.
