...
So I hate to do it, but I'm now on the tank-train and hoping we get another top 10 pick and can pick up some extra picks at the deadline.

AND...we haven't even gotten to the point in the season where we have a really bad stretch...like usually right after the all star break.
It sucks, but I'm with you.  This team can't win a Cup.  We can't win with this goaltending.  We can't win with no offense.  We don't compete on a lot of nights and the playoffs is a whole gear up we just don't have.
Trade off everyone at deadline.
Kuzy - gone.  Just plain tired of his under achieving ass
Mantha - gone...(hey maybe he will be worth 2 bags of pucks since he's playing better and there is no contract for a team to carry)  Even if he gets 40goals this year, not a guy you will build a team around
Oshie - well...doubt very much anyone would even pick him up.
Okay this is going to be easier to say who Im keeping:  Ovie and Wilson are the only vets over age 30 that I keep...and maybe Dowder.  Send the rest packing
OUr two best lines all year have been the 3rd and 4th lines
Id trade away the d core as well. Keep Fever and i could care less about anyone else.
I know thats unrealistic...not going to trade everyone, but hell there nobody on D that I'd hate to see go other than Fever.
Oh and special K can go too.  If they want Linday as a bonus...have at it

I agree. Trade anything that isn't nailed down. Unfortunately, we don't have anyone, other than Willy, that anyone would give up a first round pick.

Ironically, they might get a third rounder for Mantha - who we couldn't give away last off-season.  Maybe they could get a second rounder for Kuzy?

I would keep McMike, Protas and Lapierre and NAK.

If we could somehow pick up a couple of second round picks and then end up with a top 10 first rounder from our own, that could really help with a turnaround.

I would definitely sell anything older than 30 that's not named Wilson or Ovechkin. But the returns in later round picks, I don't see as a big need. We have plenty of McMikes in the pipeline.

What we need is Backstrom or young Kuznetsov caliber talents.. Need to either pick in the top 3 or try and find a UFA super star who's not over the hill. (not that any exist but, that's what they need) If you can't draft a superstar center/forward, find a superstar D in the top 5-10. Picks outside the top 2 or 3 aren't gonna help our offensive struggles, imo.

Oshie has one full season left on his contract, he might be able to get 5th place..

Mick - Historically, you have needed a top 3 pick to get the key guy to turn things around, but I think that is changing with the improved talent of these young guys now.  I think you can get a great player in the top 15, but the trick is to pick the right one. The good thing now is that there won't be as many busts if you don't get the exact right guy.

What they really need is to load up on picks in one year and get 2 or three 1st rounders and 2 or 3 second rounders and end up with a great core of 3 or 4 studs a few years later.   The only way to accumate high picks though will be to trade away a first this year for a first and something else next year - which they won't do.

Yea, I don't pay enough attention to the "ranks" to know who's coming up. Hopefully they can grab a game changer somehow, someway.

Alta, Ray also bought IROC (brand) last week.. I think they might be bringing it back in 2025, in some form or fashion. Gonna miss SRX though, it was a neat throwback to short track racing with the stars of yesteryear.

OV was a partial participant in this morning’s skate. He will be a game time decision. It also appears Alexeyev will be in and TvR will scratch.

Interesting on Alexyev in and TVR out. TVR has been erratic this year, with some good games and then some really bad games.  He seemed to have been managements guy the past couple years, but maybe the new coach is not a fan.  In any event, its good to see Alexyev get to play a bit.

I'm gonna continue to watch Pacioretti.  I can't decide whether I like him or not.  He is another old and slow guy, but seems to have some grit and desire to prove he can still play. I don't like ti though that he is taking a roster spot from a younger prospect.

I like Paci so far. Much more than I figured I would. He's like an Oshie type, imo. He's in the right spot, doing the right things, just takes a minute to get there. lol Last night that line was buzzing, but as usual couldn't find twine.

I don't mind those guys getting spots, just because I don't think we have anyone with close to their talents that are being neglected. We have 9 forward slots for young guys.

On the D side, I'd like to see us play AA and TVR. Those guys need the minutes, if they're really the future here. I don't notice the D guys much, unless they make a mistake. AA looked pretty good last night when they pointed him out. Didn't do anything stupid that I saw. Moved the puck pretty well.

If Kuznetsov could get his head outta his ass, we'd have 4 decent lines, on paper. 8-92-43 could be a nice 2nd or 3rd line, but Kuz just kills every line he joins.

We're 40+ games in and Im still hoping they can shake out of the scoring slump.  :-(

Last night officially started the 2nd half of the season. The Caps are 31st in goals scored as a team.

It was 4 degrees when I left the house this morning. 6 degrees when i got to work.
So I can tell my guys it warmed up 50% already this morning  .  Well hell it's 16 degrees now...4 times as warm as when I got up.

That's cold for this area.  Rarely in the single digits here.  Supposed to get to 28 today though.
