Anthem was definitely awful.. Gotta wish Chase a "Happy Christmas and Merry Off Season!" like he told Harvick that year.

Them boys don't play at Daytona.. SVG might want to rethink if he wants the "full" Redneck experience.  :uh-huh:

I didn’t see one minute of the race. NBC in D.C. decided to air a preseason football game instead.

NBC showed football here too. But their affiliate "CW" showed the race.

MeTV here, with Comcast mid Atlantic ch 248. But it is not high definition so the picture was a bit muddled.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I couldn't watch in SD. Peacock had it too, if you have that.

Well, thank goodness - that's what has been holding him back.

Trade Kuznetsov, install Protas as the #1C, and here we go.

what was protas' number before?  I know it was a high number.
But damn...  why jinx yourself with #21.  Gonna limit your scoring for shore.
Speaking of former #21's....Brooks Laich has a "new" lady.  She is certainly fit and I respect the work and effort put in, but I don't want a lady who can break my arms off.

Hathy wore 21 after Laich, Protas had been wearing 59 his first two seasons

Oh Hathy.  Miss that dude.
I remember Steve Leach wore 21 but don't know why I remember that and probably couldn't remember it if you asked my next week.  Brooksie popped in my head right away, but probably because he was here for so long and in an era I watched.  I started watching in the latter half of the 80's and not die-hard until probably early 90's.  I remember seeing Bondra early on and thinking he was going to be great.  Can't believe I overlooked Hathy.  Let's hope Protus turns 21 into the most remembered Caps 21 so far  ;D
I looked up all the guys who wore 21 for the Caps...I couldn't have told you any of these except Laich, maybe Leach, and Hathy

Steve Atkinson 1975
Mike Lampman 1976-1977
Dave Forbes 1978
Dennis Maruk 1979-1983
Andre Hidi 1984-1985
Daryl Evans 1986
Steve Leach 1986-1991
Mark Taylor 1986
Michal Pivoňka 1987
Todd Krygier [1992-1997
Jeff Toms 1998-2000
James Black 2001
Glen Metropolit 2003
Brooks Laich 2004-2016
Garnet Hathaway 2020-2023

Okay I was mostly pulling your old chain.  I looked it up and Maruk played for Caps 79-83 (so your old ass had whiskers that were 12).  :raspberry:
I did not know, but he played for MNS until 89.  Looking back at some of the old rosters....I started watching Caps in around 83 or so.  I remember all the guys on the 83 roster so I likely saw Maruk play but I remember him as "the" famous Cap that I never really saw.  I look at the 82 roster and I don't recognize 1/2 the guys.  I certainly didn't know Brian Engblom played D for the Caps
I think I became a pretty die-hard fan about 85 or so.  Rod Langway was one of my favorites along with Scott Stevens. I don't remember Langway being traded TO the Caps (prior 82-83 season) so he was already the captain when I truly started watching.  I remember absolutely hating seeing Stevens go to another team.  I remember clearly watching Bobby Gould brake Mario's face.  I remember "Loooooooouuuuuuuu" Franceschetti, remember Gustafsson being an excellent face-off guy.  Certainly remember watching Gartner, Dino, Ridley, Miller, Murphy (and his purse), Duchesne, Christian, Pivonka, Druce (on the loose), Sheehy, Corriveau, and of course, Alan May.  Most of these guys came along/thru in the mid-late 80's
I remember watching on channel 20 (WDCA)  Fornes and Koken the announcers.  I can't stand Koken as a play-by-play guy - very knowledgeable, but sucks at actually following/calling the game when he fills in)
Dale Hunter was my favorite Cap of all time.  Emulated my style of play  :snicker: .  Actually named my dog after him about 1989 or so.
Bondra was my favorite after that.  Now it's Ovie.  Ovie certainly made hockey popular in Washington so props for that.
Sorry for the long post - Jeez I can't wait for the season to start.  Sure hope it's not a total shit-show this year.

Yeah, pretty sure that was PR related - didn't we trade off most of the guys involved in the post playoff limousine incident?

Sheehy and Dino were traded.  Stevens was a third.  I think there were on or two more; Courtnall or Kypreos?

Okay...looked it up and the incident was after the '90 season and it was Dino, Sheehy, Courtnall, Stevens.  Jury did not indict any of them, but it was ugly for the Caps organization.
Courtnall, Sheehy and Stevens were moved/traded that summer.  Stevens was absolutely in the prime of his career at age 26, (played his 1st season in 83 as a 19 year old)  Although...I recall Stevens wanted out of DC I think?  He played another 14 seasons in the NHL after that.  He was a serious difference maker.
I thought Dino was gone at the same time, but he played with Caps until 92
