24 not having a good game.

Someone please tell me why they don't bench Mantha for NEVER finishing (or starting) checks against the boards.  It drives me bonkers watching him pull up every single time.

He's the softest player on the team. He'd shy away from Phillips

Special teams loss  :(  32 shots and 1 goal, you have a talent problem.

Hopefully they will get a little more aggressive with blowing up the roster.   Could be a looooooooooooooong road trip

Managed to stay up and watch this.  Much more physical game than I expected.  I did actually see Mantha go after and hit a guy.
Goalie (and his posts) stole this one.  We played as well as they did and took a bunch more shots, but ultimately we made the Sharks look like a good team and that's a bad sign.  Our PP is pathetic, but we did beat the goalie multiple times, the puck just wouldn't go in.
I knew we were in trouble before the game when talking heads kept droning on about how we've dominated the Sharks in recent history and haven't lost in their building...blah blah blah
I expect it will be a mediocre road trip, but then what would you expect from a mediocre team?  The Caps just aren't that good.  We all knew it before the season started and the recent success was the Caps honestly playing above their level, and getting some bounces or breaks they were overdue for.
We have a team of aging superstars past their prime, good but not great goaltending, some young unproven talent, and a new coach.  I dont think that adds up to a Cup contender.
I like the new coach, but not sure this team has the speed and stamina for his type of game.
Sooner or later the PP will get some goals just from the law of averages and that will help win a few games.  There are plenty of mediocre teams for us to win half our games.  We might even win a coach's challenge one day.
Oh, but hay - not to worry, the next several games should be a breeze vs Kings, Ducks, Knights, Coyotes, Stars, Rangers....  The Ducks are the only team in the next 6 with a losing record and they have lost 6 in a row so Im sure we can help them break that streak
FFS - HIT HIM!!!
SHOOT - THE - PUCK

We need Vezina caliber goal tending to win. $40m in salary combining for like 7 or 8 "competitive" goals in 18 games is beyond pathetic.

And Rich saw Mantha check someone? What game you watch?  :raspberry:

0-5 trip coming up.  That 10-4-2 record will be the high point of the season.

Thanks for "taking one for the team" and staying up to watch us lose to the worst team in the NHL.

Yesterday the Blue Jackets beat the Bruins 5-2 and the Sabres beat the Rags 5-1. The middle of the pack Caps losing to the Sharks 2-1 ain’t that bad.

I saw those scores last night.  Most NHL teams could be any given NHL team on occasion so its never that surprising.
I'm not overly discouraged the Caps lost to Sharks.  The Caps were due for a loss and they didn't play badly...they just couldn't score, and they did generate some chances.  But, we only scored 1 goal against THE leakiest team in the league, so only getting 1 against them ain't good.  Caps are great at finding "hot goalies" to play against.
I'm just discouraged that the Caps are...well pretty mediocre.  I didn't/don't have any realistic hope they are going anywhere this year, but being a diehard fan, I really want them to.  I like Carberry, and would like him to have success here but not sure that is possible with this roster.
So many guys are underperforming.  Kuzy and Ovi both, and that's two of your top scorers.  Mantha, of course, but thats to be expected at this point.  Backy has stepped aside which is sad, but ultimately an improvement.  Oshie...oof.  When 4 of your top 6 are not performing, then you got problems.  Include Mantha and 5 of your top 9 are not pulling their weight.  Strome is a bright spot and so is McMike-so far.  Many of the youngins are doing well so that's a plus.
Fever is a beast - I really like his game.  He's got some snarl.  Not only is he quick, he hits people, and watch him in front after the whistle...he still hitting and pushing and cross-checking guys out of the crease.  Reminds me of "a defenseman". Reminds me a little of Siegenthaler, but let's not open that wound again.
Problem with the loss to Sharks is they're one of the two teams closer to the bottom in this coming stretch of games, so one you prolly want to win.

Go Caps.  Go stomp some ducks

We're going to rely on McMike, Strome and Wilson to carry the load on goals.. Let that sink in.  :-(
