the other new guy, Johan Larsson, apparently isn’t in town yet. Or wasn’t as of this mornings practice.
-
I will miss tonight. Boys keep that Redneck away from my sister.
On second thought....we need all the points we can get....let him go ahead and kiss her, but for God's sake Jim, don't let him score on her in OT

I lost her #.. :snicker:
Lineup is different than above. No Oshie, Irwin in.

Yep. That's me done.
Night night all.
-
Fart noises.. See ya'll Friday.
-
Two guys that normally play well - Orlov and Sheary - had lousy games tonight. I guess it happens.
Mojo just pretty much skated around like Backstrom - zero impact.
Kempny - boy, I hope we get TVR back and Kempny's time in a Caps uniform is done.
-
Caps were skating slow all night, the outcome wasn’t a surprise. I was hoping Kempny would be better overall than he has been, but hard to say if he just needs regular reps or he’s done.
-
The Blues are big and pushed the Caps all over the ice. Our midget defense can't do the job when it comes to playing teams like this. The complete lack of any physical play by the forwards doesn't help either. This team won't last long in the playoffs.
-
Once they get some bodies back, they need to try Mojo as the 3C and scratch Eller or play him on the wing.. He creates nothing, does little to nothing and pretty sure he doesn't know how to win a faceoff either.. Another 3 million dollar penalty killer!! :)
-
Well the Mantha to Willy goal was nice. That's a whole lot of freight hauling up the ice on that 2 on 1
Big Tony Ray Ray got better wheels than I thought.
And never thought I'd say this, but we miss TVR on D  . I really didn't expect much(or know what to expect) from TVR, as last year he mostly didn't break the lineup and I was worried how he'd be having to rely on him full time, but he has been pretty solid this year. Kempny is done I believe. He's been playing in Hershey or watching from the press box, but he needs to go back to one or the other. Too bad for him, but I don't think he can cut it anymore.
And on a brighter note....MOJO - if he ends up 3c like Mick wants....has about a .40 faceoff win percentage :-|
Ugly game. Probably more to follow.
-
Caps trail Boston by 3 pts in the standings. Does it make any difference if Caps end up in 7 or 8? (actually Boston and Toronto both have 83 pts)
Top team in the Conference draws #8 (ahem....Caps) The other division winner plays #7 (Boston)
So Caps are going to play Florida or Carolina...depending on who wins the Conference. I think I'd rather play Carolina - for some reason we manage to be able to beat them on occasion. I don't know though, Carolina is SO stingy on allowing goals.
Ho hum....the doldrums of being fans of a mediocre team.

For what it's worth....
Eller wins 49.6% of faces offs (total career and this year's is 49.6)
Mojo wins 41.3%
not that we grabbed MOJO to win face offs, but it'd be nice if someone could.
Ovi needs 10 goals in final 17 games to reach 50, which is right about the pace he is on. Hope for his sake he makes it. He's been shorted a couple-three short seasons in his career. one more 50 ties him with Gretzky and Bossy with 9

I've been converted on TVR as well. The game he played when he got hurt was the best of his career. Looked like he had a ton of confidence.
We have the start of a decent defenseman group with Fever, Orlov, Jensen and TVR. Fever can lay out some decent hits and Orlov is good for a sneaky blow-up, but our overall lack of size is a problem. We do have one guy with size but he refuses to get physical and just likes to watch guys skate around him.
We need two big tough defensemen to pair with Fever, Orlov, TVR and Jensen. Doesn't look like we have anybody on the farm and we will have no dollars for decent free agents over the next two years, so I guess we will just have to live with it.
-

Jeez.. 41% is embarrassing for someone who calls themselves a center.
Carlson used to lay someone out every once in a while. Usually after someone got him pissed off. I once said they should smack him up side the head on the bench, to get him engaged..
We'll have 2.5m of Kempny coming off the books and might have another 2.5m with Haglin, if he can't return.. We could get a decent D man if they wanted. They could also trade Carlson and have 8m more.. Someone on D should spend every free moment learning how to feed Ovi on the PP. That's Carlson's only asset. And all the centers should take faceoff class, just to keep from embarrassing themselves every night.

We have Alex ALexev 6'-4" and Tobias Gessier 6'-4" both decent sized young D guys in Hershey...although both listed about 200lbs, but I would expect they will put on some weight in the next few years. No idea what state they are in development, but I recall Alexeyev looked pretty good in training camp.
Shultz (I see nothing) is at $4.0m and a UFA after the season, as is Kempney at 2.5m. Shulz has been probably a bit better than I expected him to be (especially injury wise), but not sure I want him back at 4.0
Caps have 63% of their cap in the top 7 guys - $53,166,666 Ovie, Backy, Carlson, Kuzy, Oshie, Mantha, Wilson (not that that is all that unusual), but it leaves $28,333,333 for the other 16 roster players
When you have three elder statesmen in your top 5 salaries, you need some young, cheap talent to work for you. Fever has been outstanding IMO, maybe next year Alexeyev is ready? sure not gonna be drafting anybody in the next few years (without having any draft picks) Hopefully McMichael comes into his own and is worthy
Shultz, Kempney, Matt Irwin, and now MOJO are the only UFA's we have coming up next year. Although, both netminders are RFA's & both are going to need more money. Whether you keep both or trade one off and pick up a replacement, we will definitely be spending more on GT next year....where THAT money is coming from I don't know.
I didn't mention him earlier when praising TVR, but Jensen has also been a pleasant surprise this year. He was a decent puck mover last year, but he's been a lot more responsible than I expected. Actually, about all our D have been better than I feared they might be. Orlov was decently solid most of the time. Carlson....meh, is what he is. He an extra winger that plays on the back line. He's not usually horrible on D. Too bad he wont use some of those muscles though. If he weren't an 8 million dollar man , he wouldn't catch as much grief.

Good points. I had forgotten about Alexeyev, but as I recall he had a pretty chill demeanor. Hopefully he adds about 20 pounds and some nastiness.
I agree on Jensen and like you said, I have been pleased overall with each of our guys, except Carlson of course. It's funny though - even though they seem to have played well individually, they continue to give up way too many prime scoring chances and leave the goalie out to dry a lot.
If we could only trade Carlson.....

Beags Wake UP! You're dreaming again...the one where Caps management will trade Carlson. Say hello to Alta for me while you're there :raspberry: ;D
