The awful calls by the refs were the most exciting aspect of the first period. Not even the usual offenders. Maybe they're newbies, tryinig to do it by the book ?
I hope you aren't offended because I said your IQ was too high.
your one to talk

that’s a makeup callYa these refs are calling some weak penalties tonight.
I hope you aren't offended because I said your IQ was too high.
4:00 straight of pp and zero shots on goal
I was just nodding off.... and.... ;DMust be past your bedtime. What time is it there?
there’s no crying in hockey...

Wilson has had some really snazzy steals tonight. Quick with that stick. 8)
His shifts and minutes are down a little tonight -- he's been closer to the top in ice time among the forwards in many games since his return. Wonder why that is?
Wilson can't retaliate. He would be suspended.
I hope Wilson takes that douche bag out.Someone needs to take him out. Can't believe there wasnt a boarding penalty.

Well the refs have done all they could for the Canes! The refs were bad tonight. Even worse than usual. They called some soft penalties early and let the shit go when Niskanen got taken out. You are right he did get hit into the boards twice on the play. I can't believe he got up from that.
:O=

It was that second effort to hit him after the collision that I thought should be called because that seemed intentional. The initial collision was a hockey play.

Locker just said the same thing, that the second hit looked dirty.I would agree with that.
I would agree with that.
I would agree with that. Our retaliation is was a fuckin joke. They shoulda taken Bishop OUT for that shit.
after Carlson and Niskanen, there aren't many that can eat up that many minutes and still be a "quality D".
Our retaliation is was a fuckin joke. They shoulda taken Bishop OUT for that shit.I thought there should have been some kind of retaliation for the hit on Niskanen. But not a fricken thing. Maybe some harsh words from Reirden. He did get a misconduct at the end of the game. I wouldn't blame him for losing his shit. The refs were pathetic all game calling several very soft penalties and then letting that go.
Our depth is weak as it is, but the after Calrdon and Niskanen, there aren't many that can eat up that. Up that many minutes and still be a "quality D". If one, or both of them are out our D is even worse, if that is even possible.
It will be tough to get a good dman. Most teams aren't willing to give up a top 4 defender.
Hopefully they try for a decent D man, for Burt.. His 3 million, plus all the IR time we've had this year, seems like they could probably afford a good one (rental) if they wanted to? Should shop Orlov and his inflated contract but they'd probably get laughed at even more than the Burt deal..

I'd look for one whos not offensive minded. That should open up the pool a bit.Do you have anyone in mind?
Do you have anyone in mind?Chara: rumored to be available, aging, risky with injuries , high dollar, but when healthy still the best shutdown Dman in the league, He'd be better alone than most of Dpairmgs together, but I doubt GMBetaMale can pull that off.
I don't have anyone in mind.. BM found Kempny, who paid off pretty well.. Does his job. Maybe he can pull another rabbit out of the hat?
edit: Burt and a pick for Jake Muzzin. (yes, I had google help) :snicker:
The other issue is both Phaneuf and,as I just found out. Martinez is on the IR. Until they get back it’s unlikely they trade any D
That is who I mentioned a bit ago as supposedly being on the block. Burakovsky makes sense for LA -- he is a sniper, which they sorely need, being last in the league in scoring and their forward lines made up largely of tough grinders who could get him the puck (which he's never really had a chance to play with here.) The problem is that Muzzin carries a $4M cap hit and is signed through next year, which may make this offseason's needed signings tough unless the salary cap really jumps.
Chara: rumored to be available, aging, risky with injuries , high dollar, but when healthy still the best shutdown Dman in the league, He'd be better alone than most of Dpairmgs together, but I doubt GMBetaMale can pull that off.I'd have no problem adding Chara
Mcquaid: everything were lacking in our DCorps, if NYR will part with him
Martinez: an upgrade in everything, if LAK would part part with him
But let's be honest, in the postsiton of need, with limited access, GMBetaMale isn't good enough to pull this off.
I'd have no problem adding Charame either, but we don’t have anyone sans Ovie. Backstrom, Holtby, that Boston needs much less wants.
I heard the Canucks are interested in Burakovsky. I was thinking we should ask about Edler.hell at this point trading Beagle and having him play D would be an upgrade 🤣
It appears that Niskanen escaped serious injury, he is listed as day to day and will make the trip to Ottawa. I don’t think we will be trading for any defenseman, I think our young defenseman can fill in for the short term and it sounds like Orpik will be ready to go sometime next week.by all right you mean go into shootouts 5-5? Oh wait, we already do.
me either, but we don’t have anyone sans Ovie. Backstrom, Holtby, that Boston needs much less wants.
We have one little negotiation piece. We could offer Boston a "Get Away From Wilson Free Card" to prevent him destroying Marchand :uh-huh: in 13 days (Jan 10) for Marchand's brutal assault in Game 1 on Eller. Remember, because he did not approve of Eller's celebration after his goal, which was nothing beyond cruising by the Caps bench for high fives as is done every single time a goal is scored these days.🤣🤣 No way Marchand will fight Wilson, like there’s no way Eller will try to fight Marchand again
:snicker:
Lady, check DC's clock again.. Ol' fella is running 2 weeks late!! Caps have given up 7 goals... IN THE LAST 5 GAMES!! :snicker:
LoL.. He's probably gonna get the last laugh, but Im enjoying being the agitator while were ridin the high!! :uh-huh:

I agree with you, Mick, but I’ll cut DC a little slack! For several reasons!!
One, he mentioned he’s on a Fla brewery tour today!
Two, I’m envious of his Old Fezziwig slurpfest, yesterday! And
Three, I like it when he’s FEISTY, (and lit)!! Usually means good stuffs happenin’!!

Hell, nobody thought the Stanley was possible last year, either, at the beginning of the playoffs!

Come on. It was the seventh goal in a 7-0 blowout. I understand why the Bruins took offense. I'd still love to see Wilson destroy Marchand but for not for retribution for Eller. Just because he is Marchand.

Rush,I'm with AjR. I always felt our team had a chance last season. We had the talent. We needed to refine our playoff game a bit and needed a bit of luck.
I just want to say that this nobody ;) very much thought we could win cup last year. I was very strangely calm and optimistic unlike previous years where I was frustrated. Beginning in Late Jan - Early Feb I was feeling very comfortable with our chances. We clearly had the talent for a few years and then last season we seemed to have the resolve to play the right way (all 60 minutes and a solid defense) that we were previously missing, and so I saw us going all the way. I also predicted we could/would dominate the Golden Knights quite early in the playoffs.

The Caps celebrate EVERY goal and there is nothing wrong IMO with Eller celebrating his goal with the team as they do for every single goal scored all year. Only a bitch like Marchand would take offense. I understand some of us older folks might remember when goal celebrations were almost non-existent and might see it differently, but nearly all players on the ice today played during the era of goal celebrations. Get over it I say. If you don't like to lose, then win!it would of all been good if Marchand left the ice covered in blood after the “fight”, but if you’re gonna get your gonna get pounded, embarrassed and humiliated like Eller did, you have no place doing anything close to taunting or celebrating, particularly when your up 7 goals
I do agree with your last couple sentences. :snicker: Marchand is THE dirty player many wrongfully try to accuse Wilson of being. I look forward to Jan 10. Marchand has been playing quite well lately and says he wants to want to lose that dirty player identity so he can be remembered for his skills. Since it's in his genes to be a dick I don't see that ever happening. He will always be remembered as a top douche bag of the NHL.

The new generation doesnt seem to frown on those actions like they did in the past. In the 70s or 80s that behavior could have started a line brawl or even better a bench clearing brawl.

And I bet if the roles were reversed. And the Bruins were celebrating a meaningless goal you would expect Wilson to retaliate.
There is such a thing of showing respect for your opponent. To be honest I dont know why you would even celebrate that goal. Would he celebrate like that if the Caps were down 7-1?
Obviously, we have differing opinions. It was Eller's first goal of the season. I'd be excited too. I'd have no issue with an opponent celebrating a goal. No issue at all. He never even looked at the Bruins. He was focused on his team and headed to the Caps bench in the usual manner. I think it shows weakness when you overreact to something so harmless and innocent. It shows weakness when you try to make a big deal out of nothing. In other words, a pussy reaction. That was not about Eller's celebration. It was about the frustration of being dominated and embarrassed. That's pretty trivial celebrating a meaningless goal like that. Ive seen guys score their first career goal and not get that excited. I didnt see Laine celebrating like that when he scored his 5th goal in a single game.
Tag. You're it! ;)

I doubt there's any retaliation.. Only real injury to Eller was his pride. Maybe Lewington or DSP or someone could chirp up Marchand and see if he'll go, but I wouldn't count on us (especially not Wilson) chasing him around/cornering him, like Boston did to us that time..the retaliation that needs to be done is Helen manning-up, going after Bergeron and beating Begeron til he bleeds
* Good grief, didn't realize Marchand was such a shrimp.. We have no one that small who can/will fight, that I know of.. Prolly be best for Eller to sniff some salts and go it alone! :snicker:
You are misunderstanding the point. I dont care who the player. There is a line you don't cross. Eller crossed that line. I'm not condoning what Marchand did but I understand why he did it.
Maaco, you talk as if all the Caps on the bench, felt like you did! No retaliation? As if the other Caps players were collectively thinking, “boy, I’m glad Marchand got him! We won’t do a thing because Eller deserved it”!! 😂🤣. Just venturing a guess here but uh......I don’t think they process stuff like you, necessarily!!
I’m more on the side of a PROVEN, dirty, poor sport like Marchand, losing his cool, after their whole team was dominated.
I know you can’t stand Eller, but hell, even when I used to ABHORE Carlson, I didn’t wish him a bloody head! Either way, it may be one way we differ!
From the video, I couldn’t tell if Eller intentionally taunted Marchand, or not!!
Worst case, even if I was an “Eller hater”, type of Caps fan, I’d say, Marchand took exception to Eller, Eller’s not a fighter, Eller got bloodied, and WHATEVER, real or imagined, price was paid! End of the fricken story! It’s DONE! You seem to relish it!
I will add that if Marchand gets retaliated against, coming up with Boston, than your posts point will be totally flattened.

Maybe you should have watched Don Cherry lastnight. He ripped team Canada foir running up the score and over celebrating in a 14-0 win over Denmark. He feels they disrespected Denmark. And I agree. It is a very similar incident except the Danish team didnt retaliate. I'm sure they weren't happy about it.
So dont make this about Eller. Its about an idiot that disrespected their opponent. It doesnt matter who it was.
the retaliation that needs to be done is Helen manning-up, going after Bergeron and beating Begeron til he bleeds
Til he does that, how can anyone respect his integrity or manhood?
Not being a fighter isn’t an excuse.
Does anyone not respect Nicky for never going after Bourque? He's not a fighter.. Eller's not a fighter.. If all it took was being 6'+ to be a good fighter, we'd be the bullies of the NHL.. I'd still like to see him try though, but doubt he will.
