so here is the 3rd non chat thread this season. I anticipate seeing all the youngsters again tonight,
as such I have no idea what the lines will be.
On a side note, there is no way in hell Quebec gets another team unless the local press wants to speak
english. That was one of the sticking points on why the Nordiques left, they refused to speak English when interviewing the players.

I'm not sure if the media refused to speak English or not. A high percentage of people in Quebec City speak only French. It must have been difficult for Europeans and even Canadians from the west to play there. I do remember Joe Sakic doing an interview in French.
I know I'm a fan of an American team but it would be nice to see more Canadian teams. Unfortunately Canada doesnt have big enough markets to support as many teams as the US. Some of the guys here complain about the game getting soft and we are losing heart and soul type of players in favor of more high skilled players that like their toe drags. This is what we call Americanizing the game. The game was fine until the push to sell hockey to the southern states.

That's a bit embarrassing since the Canadians regular roster looks more like an AHL roster than an NHL roster.

Well that was pretty rubbish.Apart from that lovely Ovi one-timer.Stupid penalties and lots of them. Kiddies holding on a little too tight, methinks.Copley wasn't good at all.
Willy and Orpik starting as they mean to go on, it seems.
The comms did say some nice things about Ovi though.
Anybody know why the game was played in "Kebek"?

The game was played in Quebec because that city wants a team back. A lot of Canadian teams play preseason games outside of their actually city just to promote the team and there are enough hockey fans all over that they can fill rinks in smaller communities.

If Montreal wanted a baseball team they should've had better attendance numbers than Miami currently has

Montreal needed a stadium. Even though they never won a world series they were a very competitive franchise. Their best chance to win it was the strike shortened season. They were far and away the best team in baseball that season. A lot of star players went through that organization. Guys like Dawson, Carter, Raines, Alou Jr, Guerrero, Galaraga, Pedro Martinez, Dennis Martinez, Randy Johnson and so on. If they could have kept all of their stars they would gave built a dynasty.
You shouldn't be too hard on Montreal for losing their team. If they hadn't, there wouldnt be a team in DC.

competitive and fan support are two different things. The Expos had about zero fan support, and DC would've gotten a team either way. Either from a different franchise moving or through expansion.

The Expos had decent fan support at one time but when attendance start to drop below 10,000 it was time to move.
What makes you think DC would have a team if the Expos didn't move there. There has been no expansion or teams replicated since then.
And speaking if teams relocating. Didnt Washington franchises relocate twice. I believe the Twin and Rangers franchises were once in DC.
