Title: NBC Mike Milbury says something fishy going on with officiating
Post by: ArJunaZ on Tuesday May 29, 2018, 09:25:05 PM Eastern
It was pretty obvious that the non-call last night when Ryan Reaves of the Knights slammed John Carlson to the ice with a vicious cross-check to the back was a crucial point in the game. This happened one foot in front of our goal. Less than a second later Reaves got a pass and scored a goal over the head of our downed defender. In ANY other game that would have been a penalty and the goal would not have counted. Mike Milbury on NBC  who normally does not like the Capitals at all was seething mad as he slammed the referees for that. He also strongly implied that something fishy is going on with the officiating these playoffs.  Can you believe this is coming from ANY NBC goon? They don't usually like the Caps.

It seems to me that someone in the league wants the Vegas Cinderella story to continue all the way to the Cup. If we see this sort of crap again we need to make a lot of noise.  Last night on the postgame shows they were trashing the refs and the league for the way the game was officiated. Alan May, who does not usually chime in against the refs was also incredulous at what he saw numerous times last night from the refs.

I grabbed the video with my phone, so it's not the greatest, but it gets the point across.

Well, the excuse seems to be that the Reeves crosscheck happened too fast for the official to make the call. So what I don’t get is that they don’t call a penalty on Wilson during the play but then they can all huddle after play is stopped and decide it is a penalty, but they can’t review the Reeves play after the goal?

Like the NHL Officiating is anything but fishy. . . Unless you count corrupt, on the take, following Bettmans orders, or otherwise incompetent.  Hell there are how many Hens banners to prove that?

As for the “explanation”, if the stupid rules the NHL put in and/or changed make the game to fast with to many rules to make the obvious calls. . . Maybe these stupid rules should be changed back.

That kind of hit is usually allowed, only if you're on the PK.. No way they didn't see it, they just had the whistle swallowed cause it was the 3rd period. Now, (to make it better) you can bet your ass we'll get called for a cross check tonight, in front of their net, just to let everyone know they won't stand for it..  That seems to be the pattern. The don't call something egregious against the opponent, then to make up for it, call us for the exact same thing a few minutes later..  (Ō_ƆŎ)

It looks like everyone thinks Reaves should have gotten a crosschecking penalty on the play that he scored the goal. Except for the one person here that blamed Carlson for getting crosschecked.

If necessary, the refs can huddle and review the play.  This wasn't necessary given that the Caps were the receipients of the cross check.  It's in the rule book somewhere.

So you are intentionally being an asshole. Your not under my skin, if you were getting close your posts would be deleted, though that will happen anyway as you tell everyone else to adhere to your opinion.

When you joined the other board there was a big debate as to weather or not you are a 12 year old. Prove me wrong on this.

I don't think anyone "blamed" Carlson for being cross checked. I believe DC mentioned that people should show a bit more grit and not whine about calls like that. Was it an obvious cross check that led to the goal? Yes. Did the Caps have the right to be mad? Yes. But as a player, Carlson should of got up and moved on with it (like it appears he has the rest of the series btw.) I think the point was that shit like that gets let go. I remember in was it 2011 when the Bruins beat the Canucks? There was a game after th whistle were Marchand punched one of the Sedins in the face like 8 times in a row. In front of the ref. Zero calls.

Welcome to the NHL playoffs. Reaves will have to kill a man before the refs do anything, and we can't let that bug us. We knew going into this thing that the officiating would suck/whistles would get put away randomly. It happens every year, not just to us but to everyone. Just have to deal with it, like anything else.

Problem is, though, that penalties that directly give someone a crucial game advantage as a result of the illegal maneuver have to be called.  So is it now open season on defensemen in front of the net?  Can you imagine the damage Ovie could do if he camped in front of the net when the puck is in the offensive zone and simply checked any defenseman around him to the ice to clear a lane to get the puck?

Pillsbury will have plenty to talk about.  We actually had a few calls go our way.  It looked like the refs mostly stayed out of the game.  But then again we didn't retaliate (much).

that one retaliatory cross check Kuzy did was interesting, he skated away slowly expecting a whistle then went hard for the puck when there wasn't one

Yes, particularly against weak 4th forwards and/or soft puckmovers that fly 5ftt anc beyond with a little cross check, then yes, and add Wilson and DSP there too.

If players don’t like being crosschecked, they should get up and a go after the one that did it, or do it back to them tenfold.   Not boo-hoo about the officiating that misses or ignores most the “infractions” anyway

We fans need to man up and quit acting like the Hens and their fans, crying about calls.

I don't mind standing up for oneself, except it seems in the NHL that it's the retaliation that gets called.  I thought the comment about Kuzy looking around after he had given a retaliatory cross-check, expecting to get called, was telling.

These are high stakes here, the scores are relatively close, and players don't want to be the one that happens to be nailed for a penalty in a close game by retaliating.  Now the refs could let the players determine the outcome by simply calling ABSOLUTELY nothing and letting the games deteriorate into mayhem, but there IS a viable alternative, and that is for them to call the consequential initial penalties.

You know that if the Caps were to give a Finals game away by getting irritated, retaliating, and getting called for penalties that would turn a game in Vegas' favor, that you would criticize them for taking stupid penalties.
