These last two games weren’t originally supposed to be on Monumental. It was a last minute decision.
-
Dubois is out, “upper body”. Rumors from morning skate say Kampf could replace him, but that’s not verified yet.
Lindgren and Sandin still hurt, out for the season.
-
Lappi and BigMac in over Kampf and Lilj? I guess we're not sure what we have in them? It's supposed to be a business, not some sentimental exhibit bullshit. Carbery makes some of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen..

I agree. There's a LOT of work for this team to do to be any sort of cup contender again. As many expected, not bringing up Protas, Jr. much earlier was a huge mistake.
As for the playoffs, this format really leaves a lot to be desired. Why should teams in the same division play each other rather than have seeding by points? Dallas and Minnesota, two of the three best teams in the West play each other in the first round (110 pts & 102 pts) while Edmonton gets Anaheim (91 pts & 90 pts). This makes zero sense. Minnesota is really getting screwed having to play Dallas AND not having home ice while a team with 11 fewer points gets home ice against a much weaker opponent. Same in the East with TB, Montreal and Buffalo all having much better records than Pittsburgh and Philly. Another Gary Bettman special.

I suspect Mac is playing tonight as a thank you for his faithfulness in being with the team all season, practicing, etc., and getting in only a handful of games.
Maybe the last game provided all the info the team needs on Liljegren. LaPierre over Kampf, though, i agree - Kampf ought to get this one last shot. He IS as much like Dowd as anyone could be - but maybe the team sees the handwriting on the wall. Next year's centers are going to be Strome, DuBois, IProtas, and Sourdif, and neither LaPierre nor Kampf has much of a place except as an extra piece. So maybe the Caps have already made up their minds about what is going to happen with these two over the summer, and it doesn't matter who plays.
I wonder if IProtas and Hutson go down to Hershey after tonight to get some more games in and give Hershey a shot in the arm to try to make the playoffs and then get some Calder Cup playoff experience in. This organization seems to think that playoff experience at whatever level in the pros is worthwhile for development.

Caps just won 4 in a row, gotta be the longest win streak of the season

And the PP finally comes through when it's absolutely needed.. Just needed that a time or two more this season. ESPN did a nice tribute to Ovi after the game. Got all dusty in here.. :'( lol Really hope he plays another year. We still haven't got the weapons to replace 30+ goals a year.. And I really can't picture this team w/o the Great8 on the ice..
So anyway, tonight ends the season on a high note anyway. Can't believe we have more wins than 10 of the teams in the playoffs. Those loser points suck.
Thanks for the GDT's Alta! See ya during the offseason! Go Caps!!
