So we traded two draft picks for two players who, between them, have played two games thus far since they were acquired. And the point was .....?

Both of them are UFA’s at the end of the season too. Starting to look like pointless rentals. But, they did trade off Carlson instead of resigning him.

Makes me wonder (about Lilgren) if coach and gm we not on the same page? Can't believe they saw all they needed from him in 2 games. 2 draft picks is 2 draft picks.. Plenty of diamonds been found in later rounds over the years.. Poor asset management, imo.

I just don't like PLD's game. Other than "he's responsible", he brings nothing. Not consistently anyway. Especially at 8.5m for nearly a decade.. :-( Wish they could find someone dumb as we were to take that contract.

This team needs a lot of things but the most vital is a d-man who can put the body on guys mid-ice like Orlov used to do. That goal last night where the guy waltzed through three Caps all waving at the puck, was horrible. Two physical d-men is even better.

You realize, of course, that the LaPierre goal in the Vegas game had him zipping past the defense, who never laid a hand on him? It isn't like even the better teams lay guys out in mid-ice regularly.
Defense is played a lot differently in the NHL these days.

Defense is played a lot differently in the NHL these days.
It might be different. It's not necessarily better. Too much of the physicality of the game has gone away. I'm not saying you need a Scott Stevens out there knocking guys unconscious but I see numerous times when puck carriers weave through d-men when even the slightest hit would disrupt their path to a good scoring opportunity. We haven't had a really physical defenseman since Brooks Orpik. There's simply too much puck watching and stick waving going on. I like skating and scoring as much as the next guy but I also like to see the game played as it was meant to be played which includes checking.
