I always say we need to strike gold again, like we did with the Oshie trade. But I think we've already used that ticket with Chychi. He's an elite ODman.

Dubois has certainly been a help since his return. He balances out the lineup and puts everyone else in a more comfortable matchup position.
We are in an awkward spot, though. Only two more games before the trade deadline - not really enough to get a good read on whether or not we can challenge for a playoff spot. Do we buy? Sell? Stay put?
I suspect stay put, because we've already given away draft picks for this year so it would be difficult to add any impact players, and they aren't going to sell while Ovie's still around and they have a chance to get into the playoffs for him.
Ovie really needs to retire after this season so the franchise can move on. He already is becoming more of a specialty player than a mainstay, but he's still playing on a line where he needs to be a mainstay (this is no criticism of him - Father Time is undefeated.)

LT steals us another win. Black Ice said it...Dubois brings balance that allows other to play their positions better. Nice that he's scoring too. (Someone needs to)
If I'm the Caps, I'd be selling. Yes they still got a shot at making the playoffs, but TBH this team will go nowhere in the playoffs. We just have too many holes and not enough elite talent. That's not knocking them, elite talent is just very hard to come by. Can anyone name me a mediocre team with limited or no elite talent that's gone deep in the SC playoffs in the last several years?
LT is the about the only elite talent we have. Yes willy and chicky are up there and very impactful players, but doubt most folks would call them elite. Ovi obviously was, but I would not put him in that category now, despite him being the GOAT.
It time to slough off some of the chaff while you can get a return. I'd move Carlson if you could - he could add value to a SC contender. He's also about the only one I see getting any return for. I'd be okay with moving 1/2 the roster, but you aint getting nuttin for TVR, Lappy, Frank, Dowd, Beauvy, etc.
I'd give the Caps about a 40% chance of even making the playoffs. They are only 2 points out of either WC or 3rd in the Metro, but EVERYONE has 2-3 games in hand, Caps have 21 games remaining. Really need to beat Montreal tonight...who is currently top WC, and 4 pts ahead of the Caps

I think our most realistic chance is to beat the Isles for 3rd in the Metro (and hope the Blue Jackets don't pass us with 4 games in hand and only 4 pts back.) How the hell did they schedule us to have played 4 more games than some, at this point in the season? :huh:
So, where's Alta? Not like him to be gone this long w/o warning. Gonna have to have the Hillbilly go check on him. lol

Rich, I'm with you about selling, but IMO it ain't gonna happen while Ovie's around if the team has even a semi-reasonable chance of making the playoffs. They simply won't bail on him.
After tonight the Caps have only one more game before the trade deadline. Other teams around them in the playoff hunt may play more games this next week, so they may make up a lot of those games in hand. That could mean that, come the deadline, we will have a clearer idea of where the team stands. If other teams get hot and by next Friday the Caps are, say, 6 points out of a playoff spot with a couple of other teams ahead of them in the chase, that would be a much clearer signal that it's time to sell.

Hey I aint sneaking up on THAT guy's house unannounced! That's a good way to earn yourself couple extra holes you don't need. But yeah, hope is all okay with him and his crew.
