Caps lose in OT 6-5
-
Well that's to be expected. Honestly I thought the caps were done at 3 goals then 4. Not being able to clear the zone for 2 solid minutes at the end you knew it as inevitable. Had plenty of failed chances to clear the puck but no. Turned into Fucktards after putting in an impressive effort for 57-1/2 minutes.
3 v 3 OT vs Edmonton is a Joke. Had exactly zero hope we would win in OT.

Team has turned into a full on clown show. All the preaching Carbery does and they're still the most undisciplined team in the league. I guess sending out Mr Stick Check in every situation, every night, has rubbed off? How many slash, hook, trip, high stick penalties can you take in a game/season?? That's their main mode of defense. Do something/anything with your stick, but don't get physical or take the body, ever.
It took over 19 minutes to register a shot on goal last night in the 1st period. They'd never gone a period w/o a shot on goal before.
Then there's our "centers" who, I don't give a shit what the stats say, can't win a single "important" faceoff to save their life. It's pathetic. Dowd fucking blows.
They should trade McMike asap since he scored a goal last night. Bro wants to be a center, but coughs up the puck easier than Ovechkin. I mean, he's really bad at puck possession. I think Lapierre and Frank protect the puck better than McMichael. I know Milano does.
I'll say it again, they fall off the map the rest of the year and Carbery will be fired before next season. Google says 7x a coach has been fired the year following a JA award.

Yep. This thing needs blowing up including Carberry. He's clueless. I'm not very hopeful about the GM, either.
-
They will never fire Carbs. The Caps stick with guys forever and never make bold moves.
Agree on the faceoffs and Dowd has been bad this year, not only on faceoffs but he has been out of position a lot and I'm afraid age has caught up with him as well. He still has been one of the few Caps that pretty much give full effort each game.
I haven't watched the Oliers game yet, but the second game against the Canucks showed a lot more effort - kinda a desperation game. It just shows that they can skate and fight for pucks if they want to - which goes back to your comments about Carbs.

Last night was one of those games where not having DuBois at center was going to really, really hurt. DuBois was the go-to defensive center against the top lines last year, and did a great job for the most part. With him in the lineup (playing as he did last year), the Caps probably control play to a much better extent and win that game.
No excuses - injuries are a part of hockey, and this is probably going to be a lost season for DuBois. If he does return later in the season, who's to say that he will be at all effective? But given the Caps' lack of organizational thinness at center, which his injury has exposed big time, that circumstance alone probably accounts for a large portion of the difference between the performance of last year's team and this one's.
This foisting blame on Carbery is baloney. The team is doing what they can in the circumstances they find themselves in. Between DuBois' injury, Ovie maybe finally losing a little Oomph, Dowd not playing as effectively while being moved up and down the lineup a bit rather than simply being the 4C, and McMichael being less of an offensive threat mostly at center than he was last year on the wing, that's enough of a loss to explain the team's drop-off this season.
