Tampa might be down four forwards in the 3rd. Douglas got ejected, Kucherov hasn’t come back out after that hit very early in the 2nd, they had third guy go down the tunnel after a hit, and Point left about midway through the 2nd.

Tampa only had three forward lines in the 3rd. Kucherov didn’t return to the bench, Douglas rode the pine the final 10:00, and Point had one short shift to start the 3rd.
But, the Caps were O fer 6 on the PP, including a 5 on 3, and giving up a SHG in the 1st. 2 fer 3 on the PK.

Special teams L Can't even score 5 on 3. lol This is getting to the point where someone needs to be fired. Whoever the PP coach is needs relieved of his duties. Same with the PK coach.

The PP is hopeless. That being said, Thompson had his worst game of the season. The first goal should have been stopped and he needed to get the hell out of the paint on the Kucherov break away. When you give a guy like him all that net to see, he'll score 95% of the time. I don't know why these guys aren't coached to get out and cut down the angle on those types of plays.
The play in our own end was also terrible early on. There were way too many chances right in the slot with no Caps there to challenge. TVR and Sandin are both sub-par and cause more problems than they solve.

Yea, Sandin at 4.5m x 5 was another head scratcher. He's up there with the PLD contract. Both them guys making about double what they should.

Honestly figured we were due for a stinker - Caps had played 3 solid games vs solid teams prior to this one. Thompson certainly was asleep for the first four goals. 4 goals on 6 shots is not the way to start a game.
Honestly we looked great on the 5 on 3, we had multiple great chances, sometimes it just doesn't go in. Thought the guys outplayed Tampa pretty much all over the ice for the 2nd and third, but 4 goals in the 1st is tough to overcome, and you can't keep losing the specials teams battle EVERY GAME. The shorty killed us. Fn Carlson was just moping standing there backing in WAY to deep, just gave the guy the ice to skate in and fire a dagger. The fourth goal TVR dumps it deep and not sure how can be so unaware of Kucherov 40' behind him. Regardless, 25% better net minding in the 1st would have been a much different game. That and 0/6 on the PP isn't gonna win you too many games.
Ovechkin will never score another breakaway goal. Nice to see Sourdiff get a goal. Frank as well. Lenny was pretty invisible for the 1st time in a while.
I think I said last year TVR was 1/4 step from being terrible and this year that is showing. Sandin i just can't figure...he goes on stretches of having good games then just....not so much. Fever had a better game, Roy has been really solid this year I think. Carlson has certainly picked up his scoring, but he is still suspect on D sometimes - sure wish that guy had learned to check with the body and not just the stick. Chychrun is just a stud. That guy was a great acquisition.
Hopefully we turn it around against Columbus - they have virtually same record as the Caps.
