Title: Capitals NHL Draft 2025
Post by: Mickstix on Saturday June 28, 2025, 09:23:19 AM Eastern
Big forward. Looks like he was the BPA at Round 1-27.  Lot of people had him as a top 15 pick. 18 years old, 6'4" 200# LW

Yep, nothing special (as expected) from the draft.

Interesting draft. Seems like they are now going for more size in general. I liked what they did and they almost got Fiddler in the second round.  It's going to be more interesting to see what they do with signing new guys.

That being said, this year is a transition year as Ovi and Carlson contracts come off after this coming season.

These guys are years away. July 1st is when the real fun starts! See what they can do in FA!  :cross:

Well I don't know the guy, but he did play for a team with a good defense last year.  Not all that big though.

SURE HOPE Fever comes back strong next year.  He is our most solid D man IMO

Let's see what tomorrow brings (please not rat, please no rat, please no rat)

I find it sort of startling that Patrick said very matter-of-factly that the Ovie and Carlson contracts are coming off the books next year.  We all expect Ovie to retire/return to Russia to play, but hearing a comment that suggests that Carlson won't be with the team after next season will probably make several people here quite happy.

Wow - didn't know Patrick said that.  Let's hope today that they announce that they have resigned Fever to a long term deal. He still seems to have a pretty low profile in the league, but I bet a bunch of GMs would go after him. So I would predict a 6 year deal with an average of $6 million.  I'd be ok with that, but with the cap going up, it may take a bit more.

Must be nice to be a dynasty where players will absolutely do whatever it takes to play there.. Fl remains intact once again, resigning both Bennett and Ekblad to sweetheart/hometown deals.  ::)
Oh, and you can breath Rich, they also extended "Marchy".. So, no Rats in DC..  :snicker:

I just thought -- could it mean that Carlson's CURRENT contract is coming off the books, but they might resign him, maybe to a lower AAV follow-up?

i could be wrong, but i don't believe they can actually do that.  I think i sort of suggested that a few years ago with some player and someone educated me it can't be done -  part of the players CBA.
Just a recollection, though, i might just be getting contact high from the ole FLA redneck

Eller gone to Ottawa.  Makes sense.  We need to open some slots for new blood.

He had a noticeable presence on the blue line during the playoffs. Something the Caps could use.

Mangiapane - 2 year deal with the Oilers for $3.6M per year.  Seems like a lot.  He played ok for us - pretty well at times and then not so well. Surprised he got over $3M.

Yea, 3 mil is where I'd of put his cap, if I was a GM. Loved his hustle and tenacity, but he made 5+m a year w/ us. I still can't figure out what he did to get a contract like that to begin with. Wish him well though!

The Caps are letting Alexeyev walk, and keeping Lapirre.

I had higher hopes for AA. But from what I saw, he's too slow. And I don't believe that's fixable. He'll probably end up a hall of fame blue liner, but that'll be our luck.

Yes - I also was high on Alexyev and never thought they gave him a fair shot - although I am coming to believe that they know what they are doing with personnel lately. I kind of like what they have done on the free agent and trade front this year - which was mainly just resigning Fever.  They also targeted Sourdif from Florida and paid more than we liked, but they must really feel good about him because they are filling a slot that might otherwise go to one of their draft picks that are close to playing - Miro, Lappy, etc...

 - 3.6 for Mangi is high.  He showed some skills but I really didn't see Caps signing (nor did i want to) he was way overpaid for the production.  I think Oilers is more his style of play, but who knows.
 - Eller gone...I like him, but he def lost a step and was a zero scoring threat. McMike stepped up some last year and also stated end of season he wants to play center so maybe he can handle 3C (although he was more productive on wing)
Raddysh - not surprised.  what kind of coin did he get?  I hoped for more from him, especially physically, but never really did much.
Alexeyev is a disappointment.  I always wanted him to be more, but he just never got there.  I think that's on him and not on the coaching.  Lavi, i expect to not give him a shot, but Carbs was pretty good at getting the best or developing young guys.  Maybe Alexeyev just missed the timing/chance to do that. He was a late 1st round pick though, and is 25 - he should be better by now.  What always strikes me about Alexeyev is compare him to Fehrevary - they are the same age, yet Fever made the best of his opportunities in the same Caps system and he's a stud.  Could just be talent and speed too.
Alexeyev getting only a 1 year deal for league minimum is also telling.  That's the best he could do in FA?

The Caps resign Beauvillier for two years at $2.75M per year. This news came late, and well after it was announced Ehlers signed with Carolina.

Didn't see the Beauvy signing coming.  Not sure what I think about it. I liked Beauvy buy he will be taking a slot that I was hoping we would see one of you prospects come in and take. Maybe they figure that they can trade him down the road and get a 2nd or a 3rd.

I am a little surprised at the Alexeyev signing.  He got league minimum on a 1 year deal.  Signed July 2nd, so....is this the best offer he was gonna get?  Seems a little early to take that deal -  I mean league minimum 1 year is the lowest possible contract a player can get.  Who's his agent - deputy dog?  Nobody wanted this guy?
