A much more sprightly start. ;)
-
If you are watching in the D.C. region, the FM broadcast is synced to the tv broadcast. A rare occurrence.
-
Decent first. A few chances.
-
Caps looked good in the 1st, couldn’t convert though
game tied at zero after one
-
Great start! I forgot my prediction.
Caps 3 Canes 0.
Goals by Ovi, Strome and Dowd. Book it!
-
Won that period. Nothing to show for it though. Need to get one in the net and keep grinding!!
-
offseting penalties, 4 on 4

-
Carlson must’ve been finishing a toke and let Svetch get the jump.
Of any Cane, why did it have to be #37?

Freaking great. 🤢🤮

-
Caps down 2-0 after two
will start the 3rd with 1:15 of PP

LT needed to stop that one. One of those games where it won't matter cause we can't score. :-(
-
WTF was Sandin doing on that first one? He was right there and could have skated up and checked Svechnikov but instead wanders off to his left. The announcers were blaming Carlson but Sandin did absolutely nothing. He's next to useless.
We also decided to stop the forecheck with about half the 2nd period left after we'd carried play up to that point. That will probably decide the game for Carolina.
-
We REALLY miss Fever on the PK.
-
Need a massive miracle third. :praying:
-
Agree - Sandin has been bad this whole playoffs. Smurf defenseman just don't work in the playoffs. Carlson maybe wasn't fully to blame on that goal but he has been back to being Dylan tonight with a series of stupid plays.
I want to see that replay again on the last goal as I think it deflected slightly off Carlson's stick. LT probably still should have had it.
You could feel it coming as the Caps were dominating and should have been up by 2 or 3 and the longer that goes on, usually the other team scores.
-
no dice

:poop: :poop: :poop:
-
Oh well.
At least we won't get swept. :(
-
What happened to all the checking?
-
Maybe being shutout tonight sparks something next game. That's what happens when you miss on 2 or 3 grade A's, then give up one. We've looked like little scared kids ever since.
-
Oddly haven't heard the announcers mention the SHUTOUT even once. They said it 3x last game, buy the end of the 2nd period, when LT had one going. ::)
-
If you cant score, you cant win, no matter what Thommy boy does.
Loads of lazy give aways again and stupid throw aways to the corners to absolutely nobody. Who knows a shot on goal instead could actually sneak in, maybe?
-
nother PK . . .

Not sure why we stopped playing. Had the mo, they scored 1 and we folded like a Chinese lawn chair. :(

This series is showing just how much we over-performed this season. We're just not very good. As many changes as were made last off-season, that many or more will be needed for next year. If they don't get measurably younger, bigger and faster, they won't go anywhere. We also simply lack the depth of skill players that teams like Carolina have. If they think all they need is a few tweaks, they're in for a rude awakening.
On another topic, Protas looks like an 80 year old woman out there. Not sure what his problem is but he looks terrible. Also sad but true that Orlov would probably be our best defenseman if he were still on the team. I think this thing goes two more games.
-
Night all. :(
-
Caps lose 4-0
Hurricanes lead series 2-1

When's the next game? Monday? Who cares.. :raspberry:

When's the next game? Monday? Who cares.. :raspberry:
you need to go hit your attitude adjuster
Game 4 Monday at 7pm, game 5 Thursday at 7pm.
Best outcome for the Caps is now a 6 game series, not what this squad needs.
-
It'll either be 5 or 7. Lose Monday and it's 5. Happy happy!! lol

So on the positive side, we dominated in the first period and half of the second. We could easily have been up 3-0 and then it is a whole different game. I think we win the next two games.
On the negative side, it looks like Dylan is back to his old tricks - half-assed effort and poor decisions. Protas is not playing his normal game and you have to believe his foot injury is part of the reason. Sandin has been awful and I'm not sure what he was doing on that first goal. You just can't have smurf defenseman in the playoffs.
I agree we need to make more changes and get bigger and more aggressive on the back end. That won't happen until after next year when the Carlson and TVR contracts end. We just have to hope that Carlson retires, because if not, you know they will sign him to a stupid new contract.
-
So much for Carlson's two good games. He sucked this past game and that 1st goal is on him and Sandin. It's never 100% on one player, but that was Johnny Qualude's man and he just stood there and let him jump on a faceoff that we actually won. Sandin guessed the wrong way thinking he would go behind the net - (who knows why) and just steps out of his way. Thompson caught a little by surprise as well. It's like nobody was prepared for us to win the draw.....or even for the puck to be dropped. It happened very quickly and hard to react but damn that was just a shitty play...or rather a total lack of play on our part.
Carlson looked like doo-doo again later on the third goal when a guy just skates around him at the blue line and Carlson just lets him go...doesn't try and hit him can't keep up with him or stick check him or impede him in any way...like he was caught by surprise the guy was actually trying to go around him and go to the net. You hope Thompson gets this one, but it was a wicked shot placement and to be fair...Thompson is way back in the net with another Cane standing at top of crease (all alone and unbothered) waiting on a tip in pass. Chychrun tried to slide over and pick up the man or try and block the pass since Carlson got beat so badly, but the guy makes a good shot. Roughly 3 minutes into the third, down 2-0, the game was already over, but this was a BIG nail in the Caps coffin of this game.
All might have been different if Willy buries his breakaway early in the 1st or we get a bounce on one of our many chances the first half of the game, but we simply can not come from behind on the Canes. Giving them a 2-0 lead is death. We haven't competed with them for a full 60 minutes in any of the games and that doesn't work against a solid team like the Canes. The fourth goal is a PPG where they get a fantastic bounce off the boards right to a guy with open net, but it was well over anyway. The 2st goal is a ppg we'd like Thompson to have, but goals 2 and 3 are the Canes simply taking advantage of our weak D play. Both goals are 100% on the D. If Thompson isn't the #1 star of every game, standing on his head and making all the incredible saves, we will not win vs the Canes. I didn't expect us to win this series, but these games are just ugly to watch. It's sucks to be a Cap fan in the playoffs. It has been so historically and it does again. I fully expect to lose the next game in Carolina and come home for the series loss and exit in 5 games.
