Huh??
Where is McDavid in the Edmonton lineup? Is he out for some reason?
Oh, I just saw where he got suspended. Shows how much I pay attention - I didn't know. Well, that's catching a break.

When the water gets below 55* down here, it might as well be frozen, as far as bass fishing is concerned.

20th goal of the season for Willy. He was on the verge of 30, before covid and a bad coach.

That's no image, that's fantasy! :snicker:
First few years down here, I'd be out in 40's weather in a jacket, shorts and flops. But that blood thins as the years pass. Now Im on the deck smokin' in full sweats, socks, jacket, hood up.. It's pathetic really.

Might be quicker and easier for someone to explain what does first.

For at least 10 years now, most of the high danger “shots” are caused by a player shooting towards the goal hoping for a deflection, those don’t count as a shot on goal. Hitting the goal pipe doesn’t count either, even though a fraction of an inch is the difference between a goal and a rebound.

Our guys looking a little gassed.

Logan Thompson wasn't mentioned once by anyone in this thread, but from what I could see, he was the #1 star of the game. The Oilers are the one team in the league who has been slightly better than us over the past couple of months, and it showed, even without McDavid in the lineup.
I think at this point the top two offensive talents for the Caps are ...... Protas and Wilson. This was not a game where Ovechkin would be a factor -- too much speed. He really hasn't been the same player since the injury, despite the early goals coming back. That isn't meant as a criticism. He is 39, got out of the game for 6 weeks, got out of prime playing shape, and has to work back and figure it out again. Notice his minutes are down. Carbery is being guardedly positive when a question about Ovie comes up, but the fact of the matter is that Ovie is now just another guy on the team unless/until he pulls himself up by his bootstraps again, and Carbery will put the guys on the ice, especially down the stretch in tight games, who he thinks give him the best chance to win.
-
BlackIce - I was just about to post the same comment about Ovi. I'm hoping that he will get back to a higher level with a little more time and maybe that layoff for the 4 Nations thing will help him a lot. I am a bit concerned though about the amount of shanked shots and he seems to be having a hard time with timing. Maybe that will improve as well with more time.

I was too tired to post after the game and I try not to jinx the goalie during game time. I thought ThomCat played great last night. A little straggley at times and I thought the second goal was a little soft, but I think he's definitely secured the number 1 spot, imho.
I'm slightly concerned about McMike. The experiment to put him on the first line didn't work. What to try next, if anything?
-
This getting outshot 2-1 every game is going to come back and bite them. 5 on 5 play has to be MUCH better.

I have noticed that we seem to be more inclined towards goals from deflections lately, rather than direct shots on goal. Apparantly these do not count as SOG's. Fairy Nuff. I'm a bit stumped at why shots on posts don't count though.
-
I'm a bit stumped at why shots on posts don't count though.
Because "technically" shots on goal are supposed to be shots that would (go in) score, if not for the goalie saving them. If it hits the post, it's not going in.
It is kinda a silly stat though. If the goalie blocks it, it's a SOG. If the defender does, it's not. But most nights when we bitch about low shots on goal, it's not because they're getting blocked. It's because we're playing most of the minutes in our own end.
-
So, if a shot hits the post and bounces in, even though a goal is scored, it's still not counted as a shot on goal? :raised-eyebrow:

So, if a shot hits the post and bounces in, even though a goal is scored, it's still not counted as a shot on goal? :raised-eyebrow:
No, the fact that a shot goes in makes it a shot on goal. The problem for stats counters would be, how much of a miss does a shot have to be before it's not counted as a shot? To the NHL, an unimpeded shot that hits a post and stays out is not a shot on goal, any more than a shot that misses the goal by a foot -- or two -- or five ...... And conversely, any shot that goes in is a shot on goal, whether it goes into the dead center of the net or nicks/hits a post on the way in.
I guess the confusing part might be, what about a shot that hits the post, ricochets into the goalie out front, and then bounces into the net? Is that a shot on goal? I THINK the ruling is that ANY play of the puck by the scoring team that ends up as a goal is counted as a shot on goal. My one question would be, what about the situation earlier where Lindgren (I think) directly played the puck into his own net? That may count as not being a shot on goal -- but maybe even THAT is credited. Isn't the goal credited to the last player on the scoring team who touched the puck?
-
Ta.
I believe you're right about the last player on the scoring team getting the credit.
