Rather ironic that the Caps have to travel out of town to Buffalo of all places to avoid the snow.
It's telling how much of a problem the 3rd line has been this season that, at least temporarily, Carbery feels the need to juggle all 4 lines to try to get L3 going.
-
Another fucking NHLnet game for out of towners. ::) :O= Seems the powers that be have gotten better at killing streams. Last time I had to steal it was a major pia.. :-(

It's not too terrible if it's the same! Feel better bro!!

Stop watching the damn puck and knock some guys on their backsides. We need somebody on the backline who can hit somebody. Other than Fehervary occasionally nobody does except McIlrath and he's in the press box.

Hate to give up on em' this soon, but games starting to get that :clown: :poop: smell to it.
Certainly they'll get serious at some point? :-\

You can't win playing ONE period of hockey. Now 1-5 in last 6 road games. Carberry clueless on the shootout as usual. Wilson? Protas? McMike? Mangiapane? Nope. Dubois and Strome who have no moves whatever. This team hasn't played that well for weeks now and somebody has to put their foot down.
-
I think Carbs sometimes puts guys in the shootout when he is trying to get them going and give them some confidence - or reward them for playing a good game. Why not try Chychrun who has a wicked wrist shot from 10 feet? I would also go with Eller who can stick handle with the best of them.

He used Chychrun last night. You have to play the hot hands. Protas and Wilson are scoring so they should be the first guys up. McMike and Mangiapane have good hands and moves. The idea is to win, not make somebody feel good. I'd never use Ovie as he's proven to be pretty hopeless in those situations.
Overall, the team is not playing that well. They are only 9-8 since 11/21. That's over six weeks ago.

And in fact, in his postgame pressers Carbery is saying that, in precisely those words. That is one reason why he is tweaking the lines, in order to get the team out of its current malaise. It is interesting to me not only THAT Carbery is critiquing the teams' performance so bluntly, but also, HOW he is doing it. He just says it sort of matter-of-factly, like it's something to be expected at times during a long season, he isn't casting blame, he's just stating the obvious, with the implication that the team is doing what it needs to do to try to work things out. I think it's clear that he has buy-in from both the team and management to do this. He isn't seen as a bad-mouther, just telling it like it is.

This is the behavior of a coach who has quite a lot of cred built up, and he knows it.

pffffffff. Honestly i felt like we'd tie it in the 3rd, and suffer a loss in OT...Our shootout is...well...BAD
I dont' have a problem with PLC or Strome in SO, but Carlson and Chychrun would not be in my top 5
Strome doesn't show a lot of moves, but he's been pretty effective (prior to the last 2) in SO if i recall correctly.
I'd definitely have McMike in the top 3, and Protus is just been so hot I'm giving him a nod also. Someone else said Mangi - which I agree, he's got more skills than he gets to use on the 3rd line.
You want skill guys with good hands in the SO. Not saying Carly and Chicklets don't have skills, but not real stick handling, sniping skills.

Yep. Everything was clicking and ridiculous shot percentages got us rolling early on, but we all knew it could not last forever. The Caps are a very good team, but when NOT everything is going just right, it shows they are not the juggernaut their record would indicate they are. They can't come from behind as often as they do and continue to be highly successful.
I kinda figured we'd go thru an extended marginal 50/50 record for a good stretch at some point to bring us back to earth. Hope I'm wrong about that. Hoping Carbs can get them going again. I will say then never really quit, they do stay in the game, and have come back many a time, but it would certainly be better to NOT be chasing the game all the time...especially against mediocre teams.
Although, I don't know why Buffalo is so mediocre, they looked decent yesterday, have some legit stars, and the goalie is a mammoth of a netminder
-
Rich, I think what you're saying probably goes for any team in the NHL right now. I don't think there are any clearcut juggernauts right now.
I think generally the Caps are NOT a standout stick handling/deking team. That isn't what their game is. They score goals basically in one of three ways (which is true to a greater or lesser degree for most teams): deflections, screens, and snipes. They have shown real deflection skill this season up and down the lineup I think. Their screening capability, with Wilson, to a lesser extent Ovie, and last and most beastly, Protas, is top notch. And they DO have their share of snipers. But only the sniping is a potential asset in the shootout, and you don't see it used all that often. I'm wondering if more of the Caps in the shootout ought to skate in to 4 meters, pick a spot, and let it fly.
