Who are you liking?
-
Am I the only one watching?
-
Maybe we can get Holtby back on the cheap. :snicker:
-
And one from Cherry.
-
Back to the pass, pass, pass and pass again.....
I don't want it, you have it. Don't givie it to me, have it back. Not my job, it's yours...........
-
That stream crashed. ::)
Bottom one is working......
-
It's lonely being a Caps fan. :'(
-
We're going to need to find a VERY good goalie. :praying:
-
I watched, mostly. If Vrana is going to make the team he needs to have a couple great games. He didn’t really stick out today.
-

I didn't notice him at all and I did try to look for him.
-
I wish for somebody to explain to me Ethan Bear. We got rid of one problem child in Kuzy and promptly picked up another. Pour quoi?
He played one.... two? games for us before he flaked last season. And we still payed him. All season. For what exactly? Having a surname that transltes to Bruin?I have to say Im not enamoured.
-
OMG We are going to need a goalie.
Shepard's 1970's porn star moosetache may be comical, but an NHL goalie he 'ain't.
This Stevenson fella got a bit of shock to his system, huh!
We have a very weak defense. To compensate, you have to have a strong offense, right? We have to score more than them, right Right? :)
:suicide: :hopslam: :crying:
I wish to proclaim now that we are officially ucked.
-
Oof.
well first off...its the 1st preseason game which is basically a rookie scrimmage, so it means mostly nothing.
The two best (Caps) players I saw were Cristall and Miro, and not just because they scored. Cristall was in the play, driving the play more than anyone else I saw in a Caps jersey. However, I can't imagine he will make the roster this year. Miro is a friggin sniper, that dude got skills.
Vranna....OOH-FAH. Maybe just a bad game, but he stood out all right....badly. It looked like the Vranna that Lavy benched all the time. WEAK board play that leads to turnovers in your o-zone, then no hustle ending in him coasting back into the d zone as the opponent scored...TWICE.
He was a minus 3 for the game. Dude has maybe one more preseason game to show something or he's on a bus out of town. Sucks too...i always wanted to like him.

No Vrana tonight. I don’t know if that was the plan or a result of his performance on Sunday.
-
No Vrana tonight. I don’t know if that was the plan or a result of his performance on Sunday.
I figure that was the plan...they have alot of guys they want to give looks. But Vrana may not get too many chances to stand out.
Interesting though that these guys are all playing again:
Parascak
Cristall
Lappy
E Frank
Rybinski
Ivan the Miro
Bear
Alexeyev
Ilya Protas is the youngest guy on the squad born July 18, 2006 (Mick has gray hair older than him...well he did...if it aint all fell out) :raspberry:
-
New goalie for tonight. :cross:

Shepard is supposed to play the whole game

Shepard is supposed to play the whole game
What's the point of having the new fella there then? At least give him a period to play!
-
I’m guessing the new fella will play tomorrow in New Jersey
-
Oooooh! The man looking gooooood!
:wow:
-
Good grief. ::) Stupid dumb ass penalties already.
-
Looks like our PP is as bad as ever.
-
Looks like our PP is as bad as ever.
:raised-eyebrow:
what’s this we shit, mine looks just fine
-
Thats me done for tonight. I need to build up my resilience again.........
Let me know if anything interesting happens in the 3rd period?
-
I was watching, hope for a real good season. Power ranking isn’t too good, we’ll see, they could be wrong.
-
Completely agree that the Vrana we saw the other night looked a lot like the one Lavi sat on the pine. It's a shame, was pulling for him to be a nice comeback story.
These first two games look A LOT like the entire season last year. Not enough offense paired with ........ not enough defense - a bad combination.
I've seen Shep a few times in Hershey and I'm afraid the AHL level is his ceiling. He is very short by today's standard and constantly looks to be fighting to get back into position.
Was kind of hoping Ethan Frank would show up this year to put to bed all the chatter about never having played in the NHL. Again, having seen him at Hershey [where he stands out at the AHL level] I was hoping he could get that monkey off his back. So far, pretty underwhelming.
-
I watched last nights game in its entirety. Hard to tell with so many young guys out there, but we didnt look outstanding.
I have to say, Cristall and Miro both stand out. I know they get the hype cause of who they are, but I saw Cristall in the play more than about anyone else.
Also Doobie (Pierre Luc Dubois) was out there quite a bit that i recall - seemed to be driving the play at times. Hope he fits well and earns his keep. He could be a game changer if he lives up to....well to what he NEVER has....his salary.
And Willie stood out....especially so for the dude he knocked into next week  . I think it looked worse than it was but Willie caught him off balance and just planted him...but the dude slid about 15' down the ice. This was play that eventually led to McMike's goal.
Young Protus looked pretty good...hard to miss him at his size, but i don't think he has a realistic shot at the NHL club. They want to season him a bit first I think.
And WTF Shep? the first goal he was trying to flash the glove and swooped it down and basically just shoveled it between his legs and into his own net. Nice highlight there bro.
I really don't read anything much into preseason games...its really just a chance for young guys to show something. So far for me its Cristall and Miro
I'm afraid our goaltending budget might show its true stripes this season

from an article elsewhere..
“ Vrana will be in the lineup against New Jersey as he skates in his second game with Mike Sgarbossa and Alex Limoges. Head coach Spencer Carbery said after Wednesday’s morning skate that the matchup will be a “big” one for Vrana, who is in camp on a professional tryout agreement without a contract for the 2024-25 campaign.
“We’re going to need him to do something significant tonight,” Carbery said. “And it’s not about scoring. Like, yeah, does that help? For sure, it does – but he’s gotta be good in other areas too. He’s gotta be around the puck. He’s gotta have O-zone shifts. He can’t be spending 75 percent of his shifts in the defensive zone, and us walk out of the game and go, ‘That’s not going to cut it.'” “
-
Mornin
-
This is a bit more like it. Were having a good ole go tonight. :P
-
Not an awful first period.
-
Newbie goalie actually did pretty well.
-
Thom cat's a bit of an alley cat. Sharp in his moves. Early days, for sure, but is this a glimmer of hope I see before me? 8-0
-
That was nice. ;D
-
Vrana with the fail, Strome showing him how its done. :raspberry:
-
Looking good!
-
I think I'm a little in love with ThomCat. :hearts: :uh-huh:
-
Strome in the groove tonight. ;)
-
Dagnammit!
-
-
A fleury of a finish. Opps, wrong team.
-
Lol!
That was a bit more encouraging, however I don't think we're going to see Vrana again.
Really liking ThomCat. Very quick, very alert. He did something earlier that I noticed. He took some water and sprayed it up and focused on one drop, exactly like the Goalie Whisperer taught Holtby to do. This is a good sign to me.
One win does not a goalie make, but this kid has promise I think. I definitely want to see more of him.
-
More fun when they win.
Strome looking good...did he have any wingers playing with him? :P
Dowd line looked good. Not sure if its a good sign if one of your best lines so far this preseason is your 4th liners, but considering the overall lineup....i guess you'd expect the cagey vets to look good.
++also...Dowds line played more minutes than any other line - they were 18/19 minutes...Ovi line 15m, Vrana line 15m, Sutter line <10m
I thought the Sgarbossa/Limoges/Vrana line looked very good - they were in the play quite a bit, but it was mostly Limoges name i kept hearing
Vrana was noticeable last night, but i dunno if its enough to get him a shot? He got the wheels and did drive a couple plays, but he still looks like a one way player. He stands around waiting for someone to pass him the puck. He did muck it up more and made some plays, but I'm just not sure that's in his nature....he more of a hover around the blue line and wait for someone to dig it out and pass him the puck to burn up the ice with.
Logan Thompson (Goalie) was flipping fantastic. He gives me a glimmer of hope. Yes its only one game, but he got some skills for sure. He's a big rig too I think. Appears to be anyway. I checked his career stats and he's 56w, 32L in his 4 years with Vegas (mostly the last 2 years). SV% .912 is good, GAA 2.67 not so great. We got him for two 3rd round picks (2024, 2025) which seems cheap for his pedigree. 27 years old is pretty early prime for a goalie. How is this dude only making $766k a year? He is a UFA next year.
-
Ovi - Strome - Mangi
Milano - Duby - Willy
McMike - Protas -
Duhaime - Dowd - Raddysh
I think all above have a spot, which leaves room for basically one guy in regular lines, plus a spare or two (assuming a 23 man roster with 7 D and 2 G) If they carry 8D on the active roster, then you have room for 13 forwards. I thought Lappi was a lock as well, but maybe not.
Lappi, Limoges, Rybinski, Dube, Miro and Cristall all appear to be ahead of Vrana in my book, just from the little we saw in the preseason games. All these guys certainly at least appear hungrier for it than Vrana. We only get a small glimpse so who knows how they perform in practice, etc.
Miro and Cristall are both young so maybe they play Hershey another year, but both look better than Vrana to me.
Signing Vrana to a one year budget deal maybe, but I think he'd have to go to Hershey at some point which means clearing waivers..
When is the next round of cuts?
-
When is the next round of cuts?
Who the fuck knows. I just spent far too long trying to find out using every variation of training camp roster cuts I could think of trying to find the cut dates and I got nothing. It shouldn’t be that difficult, but this is the bettman nhl.
-
I saw where Coach said Cristall "took a step back" vs Boston, even though he scored? I think that's foreign for "You playin' in Hershey another year" :snicker:
Haven't heard Leonard's name? Guess he didn't come to camp? Thought maybe he'd rethink that college thing.
*Just saw Cristall is only 19 (too young for AHL), so it's either the Caps or back to the minors for another year..

Preseason game #4
Caps vs Blue Jackets @ 7pm
Monumental Sports, Caps Radio 24/7
anticipated lines:
Ovechkin - Strome - Mangiapane
Vrana - McMichael - Frank
Milano - Rybinski - Miroshnichenko
Cristall - Sgarbossa - Dubé
Chychrun - Carlson
Alexeyev - Iorio
Leivermann - Bear
Lindgren
Stevenson
-
Wow that's basically one NHL line and 3 rookie/ahl lines.
Vrana better light it up..for his sake
Im liking Chychrun so far...he seems like a good addition
-
Caps vs Blue Jackets has been delayed about an hour. Blue Jackets had travel issues, I assume related to the hurricane.

Thanks for the heads up.

update, TV coverage is to begin at 8:30pm ET. I’m guessing puck drop will be a few minutes later. This is why the Blue Jackets flight was delayed, remnants of hurricane Helene moving to the west..
-
I was wondering why I couldn’t find it. I’ll try 846 or 1251 with Comcast at 8:30. Right now they have something on about the Wizards.

Nashville was supposed to play in Tampa tonight, that was canceled.

Good for him.

Chucky having a stinker. :poop:
-
Did anyone notice who the D pairing were on the two goals against? Was it the same pairing on both goals?
I didn’t see who was on the ice exactly. Alexeyev and Iorio are both a -2 after 2 periods. The other D are even. But CBus has scored 5.
-
Monumental has got to fix the camera that makes the Caps look like they are in orange sweaters.
:O=
-
I suspect that little tiff with Alexeyev will continue into the regular season.

i didnt watch the game...poker night
sadly...I did about as well as the Caps last night
My parents live just outside Asheville, NC. They got hammered by the storm..mostly rain. They lost power yesterday, their basement is flooded, and today they have no cell service and no land line phones so we cant reach them.
areas got 27" of rain in 24 hours...terrible flooding - worst in 200 years
they live up in the hills so no danger of getting washed away, but the whole area is devastated. Over 700 roads closed due to flooding and landslides. Both major interstates (I-40, I-26) are closed.
-
I feel so sorry for all these people in North Carolina, Georgia or Florida etc. I have lived in Pennsylvania all my life, Lancaster, Allentown and now Chambersburg and after seeing and hearing about all this destruction, I am blessed, so far, to have never experienced anything like it. In 1954 I have a faint memory, of hurricane Hazel, which was one of the few to come over Lancaster and that took some of the roofing off of the row homes where we lived. I was nine then.
-
Helene will be talked about for the next century.. Friends in Tn said both highways to NC are washed out. Towns in all 3 states are practically gone. Many people missing. It's fucked up. :-(
-
8-0
I hadnt realised it was that bad over there again. It's not like there's actual global warming going on or anything, huh? Otherwise you'd think there's some sort of policy put in place to help people, huh?
Our main international news over here is all about the Israeli's and who they're gonna bomb next, or our own local floodings.
Man, we are such a cancer on our planet! No wonder it wants to get rid of us!
Several years ago, back when I first got to khow some of you guys and gals, I had a vision of floods and the need to buy a boat. Even a rubber dinghy. I had visions of ropes attatched to neighbouring buildings, to help get across. For places to eat to sleep.
I thought it was to do with where I lived.
Maybe it's for you..........
Be safe. :hearts: (Buy a boat)
-
Im not sure where the "Global Warming is a Hoax" nonsense came from. (From the Right, I imagine) But it's stupid. The globe is warming and the climate changing.. Always has, always will. There's just one side of our population who thinks the Govt (and tax money) can change the weather.. Not sure where they got the money/technology to get us out of the ice age, but here we are! :snicker:
But yea, it's that bad again. (Not sure when you're referring to) but it'll be worse this time. Last I heard there were 13k people missing in Tennessee alone. Area's haven't seen this kind of flooding for 100+ years. (Damn that carbon footprint back then!) :raspberry: Oh, boat sits at the ready! Didn't look like he was trying too hard to avoid ThomCat.

I think I'm going to go there.......
Not till after the game, obviously. ::) I believe in the jinx.

Caps hold on for a meaningless preseason win
NOT meaningless, methinks..........
We have found our starting goalie. (Even though I nearly jinxed him)
I have no doubt whatsoever that Thompson is our starting goalie. Yes, even after only two games. This guy can steal games.
The occasional bit of floppy fish like floundering, but his recovery is superb!
-
Im fine! Just not gonna fuck with streaming preseason. I'll be live when the shit gets real!! :P

I feel strange. I think it's the long forgotten sensation of HOPE. :lmao:

Haven't seen Logan play yet, but he could have a 0 ga and 100% save through the entire pre-season and Chuck will still be the Caps #1.. You know this.. :raspberry:
-
Anybody else have anything to say about our new starting goalie?
Anybody?
:raspberry:
Well I said this in his last game, but since I know Lil loves to analyze stats...
Thompson is 56w 32L in his NHL career - all with Vegas. 2.67 GAA and .912 SV%
and as a reference...Lindy: 53W 39L in career, 2.79 GAA, .909 SV%
If you compare only the last 2 seasons:
Thompson: 46w, 27L 2.68 GAA, .911 SV%
Lindgren: 74w, 27L 2.80 GAA, .907 SV%
So there numbers are very very close percentage wise.
I agree with Mick that Lindgren is the starting goalie....for now. I do believe Thompson could be the better goalie, and he has the advantage of being a bigger guy at 6'-4", 205lbs. Lindgren is 6'-2, 175lbs (170 without the moustache)
To me - Lindgren has always played small in net...even for his size...he has a tendency to crouch down early and leave the top of net exposed. I think it cost him a whole lot less that it should have last season, but thats just my observation. I also think he played slightly above his level last year, but lets hope it was just him improving.
Side note...I heard Joe B say Thompson was never drafted...which surprises me based on his size alone, but ironically we have two NHL goalies who were neither ever drafted. I looked it up...about 12% of NHL goalies were never drafted.
There you go Lil...little sumpin to chew on till Saturday
-
Lindy and Thompson combined will make less than $2M this season
-
Lindy and Thompson combined will make less than $2M this season
Yeah, that's crazy. Logan signed a 2 year rookie deal for $800k per, then took a slight pay cut signing a 3-year deal for $766k per.
That's actually BELOW the current league minimum of $775k per year...so I'm sure that was league minimum when he signed the deal in 2021/22
Logan makes less than all four of the goalies Caps have in the minors :-|
Both are UFA's after this season so both will be getting pay raises....somewhere
