Michal Kempny will get to wear a different uniform in his debut with the Washington Capitals on Thursday night. (Mark Zaleski/Associated Press)
SUNRISE, Fla. — The past two days have been baptism by fire for Michal Kempny. He arrived in Washington late Monday night. He met with coaches and watched video and started to get acquainted with the Capitals’ terminology Tuesday morning. Then he watched the game that night. His education continued Wednesday as the team traveled to Florida. On Thursday morning, Kempny joined his teammates for the morning skate. Finally, on Thursday night, he’ll play his first game with the team.“I’m really excited, so I don’t want to be nervous or something,” Kempny said. “You know, the first game with new team, new teammates, everything is new. But I don’t want to think about it too much. I don’t want to be under pressure or something. So, I just want to have some fun, and I want to help my teammates to win as much as I can. So, we’ll see.”The Capitals traded a third-round pick to Chicago for Kempny on Monday (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/wp/2018/02/19/report-washington-capitals-trade-for-blackhawks-defenseman-michal-kempny/), and he’s expected to debut beside Brooks Orpik on the Capitals’ third pairing. With both players left-handed shots, Kempny will be on the right, and playing the off side is something he never did with the Blackhawks. It’s just another new experience.
“A lot of things here is new for me, and I think it takes a couple days, a couple games — I don’t know how long,” Kempny said. “I will do my best and have some fun. … Everything went really quick, but I have to deal with it. I’m going to be fine.”Kempny can take some comfort in not being the only new guy in the locker room going through a learning process. The Capitals acquired 26-year-old Jakub Jerabek from Montreal for a fifth-round pick (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/wp/2018/02/21/capitals-trade-for-another-defenseman-jakub-jerabek-for-a-2019-fifth-round-pick/) Wednesday, and Kempny said he has already spoken to Jerabek, a fellow Czech whom he played with on the national team. Jerabek isn’t in Florida with the Capitals; he’s reporting to Washington and will join the team there Friday.
“Always it’s good to have in here some friends from our country, so it’s good, yeah,” Kempny said. “I think he’s excited.”
‘That’s on no one else but me’: After fourth straight loss, Braden Holtby shoulders blame (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capitals-insider/wp/2018/02/21/thats-on-no-one-else-but-me-after-fourth-straight-loss-braden-holtby-shoulders-blame/?utm_term=.169e0c278f22)
With Kempny playing on Thursday, rookie Madison Bowey will be a healthy scratch, and it’s unclear who will come out of the lineup when Jerabek joins the team, as there are eight defensemen on the roster. Jerabek has played in just 25 NHL games, and Kempny isn’t much more seasoned at this level with just 81 appearances. But both have experience playing in top European leagues, and they’re similar in their puck-moving, mobile style, which could help the Capitals after they’ve struggled to get the puck out of their own end. “We acquired [Jerabek] because our scouts and the people watching all of these games like him and his skill set and what he brings,” Coach Barry Trotz said. Anytime you get a new player, you’ve got to bring him in, especially with players who don’t have 10 years in the league and you don’t have a clear picture of what they are. You don’t have preconceived notions of what they bring. What I’ve found in the past is that some of the best deals we’ve made are these type of deals where a player is coming from an organization that he’s been in and out of the lineup, and he’s going to get put into a situation on another team, and all of a sudden he just excels.”

Here we go new player. And I'm sorry it had to be said, Bowey needed to be scratched. I'm looking forward to seeing what this D Kempny can do, like I said in another thread some of the Chicago fans actually thought he was half decent, and despite not being the most physical player wasn't afraid of the physical play. While that may not be the grit we need it's still a heart upgrade on the back end as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather a player who is at least willing to get dirty, even if they aren't as effective. See: Oshie, TJ. At least then you know they can keep up with the NHL pace in the playoffs and still be useful doing what they are known for, even if that is just offense.

Agree as usual. . . I just always question that if it wasn’t for the Soshi Olympics, would theyv have traded for Oshie?
But that’s for another thread

I’ll give Kempny the benefit of the doubt but GMBM has a horrible record on his moves with defenseman. Gleason was a stiff, and Shattenkirk was flat-out horrible. I never understood why Chorney didn’t get more time and I think it was a mistake to let him go.

You give GMBetaMale more credit than I do . . .

Do you guys think a puck moving dman is going to fix this team? Getting the puck out of the defensive zone isn't all on the dmen the forwards have to help. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against a dman that can move the puck but I'd prefer one that can play physical and play defensively sound. I'd also prefer a guy with a few more NHL games.
-
That very long moment of still silence was pretty touching.

You’re Damn Right!!

1 shot 1 goal against
-
I was hoping Grubauer will be in goal.
-
Didn’t take Kempny long to fit right in. Just stood in front of the net and watched them score. Way to go GMBM!
-

.
There is more than 1 shot against.
-
I wish Oshie would get his head out of his ass. He and Kuzy are nearly invisible on a daily basis... We have Kuzy for 7 years and Oshie for 8

I dont understand the trades we made. Are they really any better than what we have now.
-
Kempny should of had the stick there but at the same time there never should of been a rebound. Thought he had a fine shift until then though, stick checked a breakaway, was holding the blue instead of pinching.
-
.

Shut the fuck up. If I wanted to hear an asshole talk, I'd fart

I don't know what the hell that was at the beginning of the game but it sure wasn't our national anthem

You started a bunch of shit on the other sites and now you are starting shit again. I don't need to hear your bullshit..I have forgotten more than you will ever know about the Caps..if I need you to correct me, I'll ask
-

Dude....it was a child singing God Bless America not the anthem. I'm not even American but they were doing that to honour the recent tragedy that happened in Florida.
-

I'm very familiar with current events, and the difference between God Bless America and our national anthem. They sang both. They murderd the national anthem. Is there any other country on this planet where there is this desire to "make it their own"? Or do they sing their anthems properly?
-
These Florida commentators suck. Didnt realize Denis Potvin was that bad.

Lol my wife commented how the national anthem was kind of butchered.

I didn't get an anthem on my feed granted I may of showed up late. My apologies. Who sung the anthem?

We're not allowed to play the same version of our NA and it has to be a different arrangement every time. Don't ask me why. ???

It appeared to be the school choir,

Aha! Yes,I forgot he went over there. We never got any of his commentary over here.
Isn't there still a game to go? The finals?

Finally, a good shift from the boys

That was a great shot bu Burakovsky. Nice to see him heating up.

You are having tech issues again?
-
If Kempny is the reason Boewy is sitting, will Djoos sit when the other defenseman gets here? Won’t one of them need to be sent down to Hershey?
-

I'm guessing Bowey will get sent down.
-
You are having tech issues again?
It's a regular occurrence.
If I ever recommend the link I use,to anyone else, for some reason it goes wonky on me for a few weeks. ::) Very annoying.
-
Not much better. Thanks Lil. I woke up again because I couldn't breathe again. At least now my wife is improving and was able to to serve me some soup. I'm a few days behind her. Brother said he had it bad for two weeks and tomorrow will be a week for me. He also got it a second time for more than a week. When people tell you this is a bad flu they are not joking. This flu is a beast.

Half a raw onion by the side of your bed! ;)
Glad you're backwith us.

A raw onion? Really? Do you just eat it straight?
-
Lemons. Cut those suckers in half, squeeze the juice into a glass and drink it. You can thank me later.
Another sh!t outlet pass by Nisky before the commercial. A-hole
-

No. Just cut an onion in half, crossways and leave it by your bed. The acids in it are supposed to draw out the disease.

What does it do by your bed? I just squeezed some fresh garlic in my soup. I've been living on coconut water, so this is improvement.
-
Garlic is also a well known anti-oxidant. Rub raw garlic into the back of fresh, hot toast. Guaranteed to clear your sinuses.

I heard that only works in a thatched cottage in the Cotswolds. ;D

um, aren't lemons diuretic? isn't that the wrong way to go with the flu??

"As onions are sliced, cells are broken, allowing enzymes called alliinases to break down amino acid sulphoxides and generate sulphenic acids. Sulphenic acids are unstable and spontaneously rearrange into a volatile gas called syn-propanethial-S-oxide. The gas diffuses through the air and eventually reaches the eye, where it reacts with the water to form a diluted solution of sulphuric acid. This acid irritates the nerve endings in the eye, making them sting. Tear glands produce tears to dilute and flush out the irritant. If you are crying just by looking at onions then you may have a psychological reaction to them"
-

Lemons help clean the blood and bodily systems, which is why they are used so much in "purifying diets and de-tox programs.

Fortunately, my sinuses are clear. I've been on high doses of Azithromycin for months. Breathing issue is from being so weak that I struggle to pull my diaphragm down unless I consciously do it.

horseradish will clear the sinuses, big time

Should we be writing all these home remedies down?

I usually eat lemon daily, but I would not be able to keep lemon down quite yet. Maybe in a few days with some honey and hot water.
I have to stop typing too much. It's totally wearing me out.
-

There's a test after the game. ;)
-
um, aren't lemons diuretic? isn't that the wrong way to go with the flu??
Fuk, if I know. I'm no doctor
-
I have about three dishes I use onions in, never had a problem with cutting them up
-
horseradish will clear the sinuses, big time
Yep. Also very tasty mixed in with grated beetroot. ;D
-
Nice to see a forecheck again, where has this been last few games.
Welcome to the forum Devise. I added your posts and likes from the other site to here.
-
Wilson probably our best player thus far tonight. Was the catalyst for a solid forecheck game. But obviously we could still choke this away with mistakes at any moment. So we went from shitty Caps to Classic Caps tonight?
-

Thanks. And yeah I've been back for a bit now, glad to see something's never change here haha.

Only 3? ???
I pretty much use onions and garlic (and pepper) in everything.
-

Guess I'm gonna fail.

LoL, far far too early to say that, it's only one goal and only because the Cats had Caps level brain fart
-

garlic and ground pepper is a staple in my kitchen, onions and peppers not so much
-
Fuk, if I know. I'm no doctor
Actually, the lemon thing is better for a sore throat and sinus issues. Probably should have asked about the symptoms first.
-

I meant grounding black pepper, not peppers. Onions really enhace the flavour of any meat you cookand especially the gravy, if you're making it properly (naturally from the stock) If it chop it really finely it releases all the good stuff.
-

Wouldn't us choking it away prove my point though? Lol.

Lemon and honey for colds.
Onions and garlic for flu. ;)
Home made chicken soup, made with the bones, for both.

Best I've seen Holtby play in sometime. Hope I didnt jinx him.

He is holding his own. He messed up a bit on the Panthers goal but he hasnt been terrible.

Did I correctly see him deliver a solid hit into the boards here in the third as well? He's certainly looked like an upgrade over Bowey tonight.
-
Not a good effort from Kempny on that one
-
He is holding his own. He messed up a bit on the Panthers goal but he hasnt been terrible.
Teething stuff. Findinghis placein the team.
(Stupid space bar >:( )

Both FL goals were scored with Kempny on the back post

Perfect fit then.... :P

The Craps strike again!

Who remembers Milian Jurcinca?
I remember the name, not much about on ice, Caps traded him north of here
-
That's not quite so funny now...
I was going to admonish you for the Holtby playing better this game comment earlier and you saying you hoped you hadn;t jinxed him....
-
Terrible. >:(
-
Wouldn't us choking it away prove my point though? Lol.
do what now
-
We will not make the playoffs.. This team chokes.. Oshie is really garbage. He played his heart out until he got the 8 fucking year contract. Kuzy is Semin II. Stupid penalties and no killer instinct. Time to get what you can for the high price players.. Losers always find ways to lose and make excuses.
-
it's only one game but it doesn't matter, I don't see Kempny as an upgrade. But he is a fresh mind in the lockeroom and hopefully that will matter, for something, at some point
-
Bah! Humbug!
Props to Luongo for his pre-game speech, by the way. I didn't hear all of it, my link busted out again.
It was a pretty long away stretchand we're home next game, so .... (again with the script size?)
-
Haha even when we play half decent we still crumble with 3 minutes to go. Sometimes you just shouldn't be surprised with this bunch.
-

I fukin hate fire sales, hate em. For any team. I disagree with the concept. But Ted had the balls to do it once, of course he was younger too

Can't really blame him. He made some sickening saves tonight. We gave up a lot of high danger chances. Especially in the 3rd.
-

Not an upgrade defensively thats for sure. Problem is thats what we need.

Sounds like you are as pissed off as I am. I was really hoping we could get a win for Holtby. He tried to win it for us but the team let him down again. FUCK ME
-
Just when I said he was holding his own. He let's his man score again.
Even Alan May called out Carlson on the last goal.....ah, who cares, I’m tired of calling out Carlson. Nothing changes.
-
Trotz has no control over this team. They have no fear of repurcusions so they keep doing the same stupid things. Same guys, nothing changes.
-

I wanted a coaching change after that horrible Colorado game in November. When the team started playing better it only prolonged the inevitable. This is also why this team needs a new captain. I said at the time, when BB was canned it was the wrong person
-

Carlson got beat to the outside but he forced the guy wide. It was Kempny that lost his man in the slot.
On the first goal Holtby gave up a rebound that he probably shouldn't have but it was Kempny that lost his man in the slot on that goal too. Those are very routine defensive plays. I dont see an upgrade defensively.
When he was in Chicago he was sheltered because he had issues in the defensive zone.
-
Pretty sure we can't blame all this teams woe's on the newbie in their first game here.
Just sayin'.
Besides, better to get his teething over and done with now and not just before the playoffs. Let's give the guy a chance.
Imight change my mind once I actually get to see him play though...
-
Yea, I don't think picking up a couple guys who can't get ice on shitty teams is gonna change the theme.. These guys can't play 60 minutes and Trotz does zero about it.. Apparently anyone in the top 6 or top 4 is much to important to bench, to send a message, so business as usual it is. :poop:
-
It’s time for Trotz to quit, the team doesn’t know how to play defensive inder his control and I don’t see any real good changes in defense/offense under his control for couple seasons, same mistakes every match. In fact,if caps would like to show better hockey in playoffs there’s no better way as change Trotz >:(
-

I don't think it's the coach that's the problem.
We've had several player changes, with the same results, post season. It's not the coaches...(bar one, "he" who cannot be named),who is the problem. It's our core.
This team has been given every single chance, but just can't seem to do it.
I think now is the time to have the yard sale. After this season. Start again. We;re not going to win a Cup with what we have, or anytime soon. We need to start again from scratch.
If Ovi isn't allowed to play for his country in the next World's, let alone Olympics, he'll be gone anyway. Same with Backus. Maybe Kuzy also.
Who knows ,maybe many of the worlds top players would join them and start a revolution against the NHL and it's bias and corruption!!!
In our little hockey planet, we need a Wellington to put the little Bonepart that is Bettman , soundly on his arse.

I don't think it's the coach that's the problem.

You know as well as I do that it;s not the coach that is the problem with our team. :(

Yeah, I get you. But that doesn't explain our repeated failures.
You want Joe Q. here? Do you actually think he'd come here?

Him? No.
But every now and and then you can find a good coach that wants a challenge, this lockeroom will definitely be a challenge

We've had multiple coaches. I love Ovechkin, but he and Backstrom are the constants here. They are the leadership core that hasn't gotten it done. Continuing to retool around them hasn't worked for a decade. No matter the coaches or supporting cast it's simply not happening.

True, but that’s only the surface.
I’m more and more convinced that this culture comes from the top.
If any coach or player absolutely went the hell off on Ovie, be it publicity/privately, benched/or punches thrown, I have no doubt they’d be gone regardless of the reasons or need.
So for any change to be more than marketing , it’s gonna need to start at the top

this has been bothering me ever since he said it as it doesn't make sense. In last nights pregame ceremony Luongo said he has lived in Parkland(where the shooting happened) for 12 years. So he put down roots at the same time this happened??.....
"Set to become a free agent for the second consecutive off-season, he could not come to an agreement with the Panthers, having formally turned down a five-year, $30 million contract offer in January 2006. It was also reported that among Luongo's demands were that backup goaltender Jamie McLennan (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_McLennan) be re-signed, his long-time goaltending coach François Allaire (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Allaire) be hired and that a public statement be released that he would not be traded until the no-trade clause of his contract took effect."
he was then traded to Vancouver for the 2007 season, where he stayed until 2014 when he was traded back to Florida. Those aren't the kinds of demands a free agent makes when he really wants to stay with his current team.

I agree. I think the problem starts at the top. Trotz is doing what he can with what he was given. I dont think we have the right personnel and we aren't adding what we need. That's a management issue.
