they didn’t get scored on, but I don’t recall them doing anything spectacular

No line but the 3rd did anything in the O zone. Nothing. Not even sure their goalie needed a glove or stick vs any but the 3rd line. Ovi played the fewest minutes in his NHL career, not counting injury or suspension. (3 PK and 0 PP contributed) but yea, nothing scary from anyone but McMike, Protas, Mantha..

Interesting. Guess Protas and Milano got demoted. Im sure Carbs won't hesitate to reunite the line if the new ones don't click.
If they can somehow get Kuemper through some shots before he lets any leak in, we may have a shot. He usually comes alive, but not before we're down multiple goals.
edit: Just saw the Sonny, Lapi, Protas line was clicking before Thanksgiving.

He really does look bad. He has 3 non-empty net goals in 20 games. That's horrid. After 42 last year, to look like this is pretty shocking. He may simply have had it, unfortunately. If he gets 12-15 for the season, he should retire rather than embarrass himself playing another 3 years trying to catch Gretzky.

Now if we told you as the season started that a quarter way into the season Mantha and McMike both would have as many goals as Ovi, you'd have thought that was a positive thing, right?
I dont know if Mantha is a fluke or what. Dude has got wheels and pretty good stick skills, but man o man he's been the most snake-bit or stone-hands guy on the roster for like 3 years running. Glad to see some go in for him. He appears to be in the play this year much more than before.
I couldn't tell live, but his goal...didn't realize he carried it WAY out on the backhand and shot that from literally on the edge of the goal line with 1 degree of angle to get it in the net. Think he might have been a little lucky there.
We will take it. McMike too. Now, if we could just solve the Ovi issue.
And way to go Willie. Dude earns his ice, love to see him score.

I don't think I'd put Ovi out with Kuzy on a 5v5 shift again, until Kuzy demonstrates he's anything but a liability on the ice. Open ice, he's fine, good even! Put a body on him? He's probably the worst puck possession guy on the team outside of Ovi. Dude is useless if you don't give him space.
Ovi looks washed too, but what are ya gonna do? He's our goat! Hope he snaps out of it.

Sadly, catching Gretzky doesn't seem to be on his list of things to do. He's caught the "pass first" bug that has afflicted our team for so long, especially on the PP. :'( Remember those good old days, not so very long ago, when he used to have two Dmen on him? Those days are gone.
Previously, when he got hit or checked, they would bounce off him and hit the ice. A few games ago behind the net, it wasn't even that hard a hit and he crumpled like a dried flower. :(
If it was an injury, a niggle even, surely he would be sat? At least not playing every game.
It's got to be a head thing, imho. Somebody mentioned a short while ago that he wasn't over his dad's death. Maybe he's got stuf going on at home?
Whatever it is, he's lost that fire in his belly and it's tragic to see.

Yeah, almost. I mean I absolutely despise Shitsurg as any tru Capfan shoud, but Vegas is prolly second on the list for me now. I think it was just the whole unfairness to their expansion draft. Not really sure what it is, but I really don't want them to win. All the Vegas BS hype show prior to games in the Caps SC final didn't help my opinion

Totally agree with the Ovi / Kuzy thing.
I would go furher regarding Ovi on the PP. I would not double shift him, but put him in the regular rotation unless /untill :cross: he gets over his funk. He's a waste of space there at the moment and unless / untill :cross: he starts taking shots, or crashes the net again, he is no threat whatsoever, even as a distraction. All he's doing is taking ice time, shot attempts and even goals away from other players who actually want to try to score.
EVERY player goes through a slump sooner or later. All we can do is hope that's all this is and he will rise like a phoenix once again.

I don't think Carbs is even putting Ovi out at the end of these games, when the goalie gets pulled? Think I saw him for 1 shift vs the Kings and didn't see him out at all last night?

For those who think that part of Ovi's problem is increasing reluctance to shoot, I was surprised to note that he is on pace to record more than 300 shots for the season, in line with his totals for the past several seasons. His problem has been one thing: shooting percentage. He is at 6.5%, way, way below anything he has ever registered, and that's with 2 ENG. He IS getting pucks on net, but nothing is going in. Now it might well be that his shot is not what it used to be, but he's in Karl Alzner shooting territory at this point. If he were shooting his career average percentage he'd be on his way to a 40-goal season.
If Ovie has really lost that much shooting ability, a case should be made that he SHOULDN'T be taking so many shots. But his problem is the team's problem, really. The Caps are next to last in the league in shooting %, ahead of only San Jose, who is REALLY woeful. What choice do the Caps have but to let him keep shooting and hope he shoots his way out of it?

That's encouraging then, if he's getting a normal # of shots. "Feels" like he's pass 1st too much, but I guess the stats are the stats. His shot (to the eye) doesn't look any different to me? Just having problems finding those corners, 5 holes and arm pits I guess. (35-40 seconds of every PP to get set up can't be helping)
