National League Divisional Series
Nationals vs Dodgers
best of 5
game 1 Oct 3 Nationals at Dodgers at 8:37pm L 6-0
game 2 Oct 4 Nationals at Dodgers at 9:37pm W 4-2
game 3 Oct 6 Dodgers at Nationals at 7:45pm L 10-4
game 4 Oct 7 Dodgers at Nationals at 7:45pm W 6-1
game 5 Oct 9 Nationals at Dodgers at 8:37pm W 7-3 10th
Nationals road record is 47-33, Dodgers home record is 59-22.
Game 1
Nationals: This is the Nationals' best lineup, although manager Dave Martinez did not always have the luxury of using it each day as he attempted to guide a veteran team over the course of a season. But this is the group that started the NL Wild Card Game and that Martinez will likely lean on throughout the postseason. Ryan Zimmerman and Matt Adams could get a start at first base, but they will also serve as right- and left-handed pinch-hitting threats off the bench, along with Brian Dozier against lefties.
Trea Turner, SS
Adam Eaton, RF
Anthony Rendon, 3B
Juan Soto, LF
Howie Kendrick, 1B
Asdrúbal Cabrera, 2B
Kurt Suzuki, C
Victor Robles, CF
Patrick Corbin, P
Dodgers: When opponents started a left-handed pitcher, the Dodgers went 30-22 (.577), compared to 76-34 (.691) against righties in 2019. In September, rookie Gavin Lux generally sat against lefties and Enrique Hernández played the outfield. The Dodgers were 0-1 against Corbin this year, and they have a 9-5 record over his career.
David Freese, 1B
Justin Turner, 3B
A.J. Pollock, LF
Cody Bellinger, CF
Max Muncy, 2B
Corey Seager, SS
Chris Taylor, RF
Will Smith, C
Walker Buehler, P

Thanks for starting a game day thread for the Nats game tonight. It should be a good game, if Nats could steel one of these games in LA things could get interesting. Interesting stat on LA’s record against left handed pitchers. Hopefully Corbin will be on top of his game tonight. He did not have a good last outing. Lets Go Nats. The pictures of Kuzy going nuts when the Nats rallied in the Wild card game were hilarious. He really got into it and even did his bird celebration.

LoL, drunk maybe, but I’m guessing he learnt his lesson on the Peruvian marching powder

Thanks ALTA!
This should be cool. ALthough....as long as it takes to play a game, I'm sure dudes will be dropping from the thread during...

I will look, after dinner...
I was mostly teasing...and I found it
He was high
-
Game is on TNT as Cardinals and Braves are on TBS in case anyone can’t find the game.
-
Not the start we wanted. Corbin walks 4 batters, come on throw strikes. I can’t remember ever seeing a team score a run without hitting the ball.
-
this ump sucks ass
-
I am turning the game off. The little league teams I coached made less mistakes than these Nats.
-
Its time to put Zimmerman in at first base. Kendrick has two errors, the last one costing us a run. Can’t have that in a game this important.
-
This is about the most boring playoff game in history
Geez. Four hours of slow disappointment
-
I spoke too soon. Jesus Strickland. How long does it take to give up two home runs in the 9th
Could we possibly drag this blood letting out any longer
-
It’s only the 8th dumbass
-
I ain’t no quitter. I’m sticking with this.
The Nats could score 6 runs in the ninth when they’ve had what? 2 hits all night
:clown:
-
Um...they only have 1 hit jackass
-
Two hits...like I said buttwad
-
We call this a Nats rally
-
I think the Nats are as bored with this as I am
-
Yeah. A Nats playoff thread...GREAT idea
-
Hey. Don’t be a dick. It’s not the thread’s fault your team is cursed with eternal playoff suck
-
Well that was fun. I feel really badly about not starting to watch until the fifth inning and then half sleeping through the next three
Strong finish with a backwards K in the book to end it.
I didn’t think the Nats could handle the Dodgers but this is ridiculous
-
Even the Dodgers fans were bored by this
-
meh, didn't expect a sweep, in fact, I almost expected the Nats to lose as they had just won 9 in a row, hard to keep that going. Ideally they need to split in LA
-
Stras bettter bring his super A+ game.
Hope the Nats take some batting practice.
And maybe some infield too.
And the bullpen needs to NOT give up two home runs in the eighth (plus two more about 6 feet short of home runs)
as ALTA said, the Nats were DUE for a loss after the run they've had.
Need another hot streak. And it would be nice if our best hitter didn't go 0 for the series.
GO Nats!
At least it wasn't as bad as the Braves loss. They GAVE that game away. Acuna looking like a real Class A ass there.
i'm naturally against the Braves, as I am a Nats fan and they seem to always have our number, but my parents are big braves fans and that game was heart breaking.
At least the Nats loss was a loss from the 1st inning all the way through. THe braves should have had that one.
-
the MLB is just like the NHL, the team that had the best regular season record rarely does well in the playoffs
-
anticipated lineups for game 2:
Nationals:
Trea Turner, SS
Adam Eaton, RF
Anthony Rendon, 3B
Juan Soto, LF
Howie Kendrick, 2B
Ryan Zimmerman, 1B
Kurt Suzuki, C
Victor Robles, CF
Stephen Strasburg, P
Dodgers:
Joc Pederson, RF
Justin Turner, 3B
A.J. Pollock, LF
Cody Bellinger, CF
Max Muncy, 1B
Will Smith, C
Corey Seager, SS
Gavin Lux, 2B
Clayton Kershaw, P

Happy to see Zimmerman back in the lineup. I look for him to have a big game. Nats desperately need a win tonight. Bats have to come alive and our bullpen has to be solid. I am not sure how many innings Strasburg will be able to go on short rest.
-
Caps took care of their business now it is time for the Nats to take of theirs.
-
starting the game with a double is an improvement
-
good start
-
Leaving the bases loaded hurts. Good at bat by Eaton, Nats up by 2. Now Rendon doubles and it is 3 to nothing. I like it, I like it.
-
Alex is the on field reporter here, I’m surprised she got the playoff gig
-
Looks like that may be it for Stras. Who will pitch the 7th, if Nats can get through that inning without giving up any runs I think we have a good chance of hanging on and winning this game.
-
great game by Strawberry,
-
Scherzer is going to pitch the 8th, that should be interesting. Was not expecting that.
-
Dodgers did not look good at the plate tonight, they weren’t even close most of the time
-
Nats sure make it interesting. Stranded base runners, Bad base runners (Cabrera). Ace closer loading the bases...Man that was stressful.
I was a little surprised they didn’t let Stars go one more, but then when it turned into a long at bat I figured (especially with no confidence in the pen)
I mean you SHOULD be able to rely on your pen for 3 innings, but when you have to rely on not one, but Two of your starting aces to come in relief, that should tell you something about your bullpen
I was fine with using Stras the other night cause the season was over if the game slips away but o don’t like using Max tonight. I mean he did well but now what? Does that push him back for a start?
Who starts Sunday? He only threw like 13-14 pitches but I don’t know how that affects everything
I mean I want the win, but mostly I possess we have no middle relief.
Strasburg was outstanding
Go Nats
I’m only expecting 5 Washington wins this weekend: 2 Caps, 2 Nats, 1 Skins
-

anticipated lineup for game 3 at Nationals @ 7:45pm
Dodgers
RF Joc Pederson (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9414/)
1B Max Muncy (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9606/)
3B Justin Turner (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8588/)
CF Cody Bellinger (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/10504/)
LF A.J. Pollock (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9157/)
SS Corey Seager (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9584/)
2B Gavin Lux (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/10511/)
C Russell Martin (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7628/)
P Hyun-Jin Ryu (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/7271/hyunjin-ryu)
Ryu, 32, put together a Cy Young-caliber performance during the regular season, going 14-5 with a 2.32 ERA and a 163/24 K/BB ratio in 182 2/3 innings of work. In his two starts against the Nationals, he allowed just one run on nine hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. The Nats will certainly have their work cut out for them.
Nationals
SS Trea Turner (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/7835/trea-turner)
RF Adam Eaton (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/6632/adam-eaton)
3B Anthony Rendon (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9106/)
LF Juan Soto (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/9360/juan-soto)
1B Howie Kendrick (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7746/)
C Kurt Suzuki (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/4047/kurt-suzuki)
2B Brian Dozier (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9174/)
CF Michael A. Taylor
P Aníbal Sánchez
Sánchez gets the nod over Max Scherzer (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8193/), who started the NL Wild Card game against the Brewers and threw an inning out of the bullpen in Game 2 of the NLDS on Friday. While Sánchez is no Scherzer, he can certainly hold his own. He finished with a 3.85 ERA during the regular season and held his own against the Dodgers during the regular season, particularly in his July 26 home start in which he limited the Blue Crew to a lone run across seven innings
-
not the prettiest start from Sanchez, lucky he got out of it
-
Soto goes yard!!!
-
Just joined the game. Good start.
-
damnit, Sanchez was having a great game until now
-
And i'm gone again. Nats not pretty.
-
And i'm gone again. Nats not pretty.
how do you figure that
-
Two men on base, no outs, can't manufacture a run. Then give up a quick run. They're better off me not watching. Plus baseball is too slow. I have better things to do.
-
I've been keeping tabs. Let's see if they can convert a bases loaded no outs situation into some runs.
-
OMG! Not even my 10 year old little league boys would make a base running mistake like that. Are you sure this is a MLB National League team?
-
That change up strike out was the first good thing I've seen the Nats do this game. Not impressed by this team. So many mistakes. It's a wonder to me they are in the postseason.
-
Whew! Escaped that mess after giving the fans a heart attack! Three innings left to come back. Think they can get 4 or more runs?
-
Nats continue to stun me with their stupidity. Who coaches these idiots? They make baseball 101 mistakes.
-
Been catching the last 3-4 innings.
LA’s 2 out rally was a downer, but we had the start of coming back strong.
Bases loaded, bad pitch, run scores, sac fly for another Nats run!
THEN....a major idiotic, base running fuck up!
Way more damaging than its singular face value!! This is NOT Preseason, or early spring. It’s the POST season!! That UNDISCIPLINED CRAP is inexcusable!!
A MENTAL mistake, that, although was only ONE incident, yet actually represents and symbolizes the complete LACK OF EMPHASIS, on FUNDAMENTALS, in the modern day MLB, and all the major sports, of modern day, for that matter!
You would NEVER have seen such a mental lapse, back in the day!
AND...on the extremely rare chance that it would have happened, you can bet it would’ve been met with good sized, disciplinary, consequences!!
NOT the pussified, no guts, “passive acceptance”, we witness today!!
Management will carefully construct a media response that will include something along the lines of, “We’ve spoken to him, and are satisfied that he knows, as a professional, what is expected, moving forward.” Blah, Blah, Blah!!
I respect those who have the mental strength to shove aside, and tolerate, in their brains, this chronically ongoing, and shaded, “cheap-sell”, by MLB management and media, of their over-glorified product, “they” call MLB!
Im sincerely envious of those who can “let go”, of this part of the game, and allow themselves to freely enjoy the rest of the good sport entertainment, that is baseball!!
I’ve tried. I can’t.
Simply meaning that I can still watch periodically, but can’t immerse too much!!
Still, GO NATS!!
Rush
-
Glad to see I'm not the only one surprised at the level of play I am witnessing. Really shocked me.
-
Hmm. Announcer said that 6 Washington Nationals pitchers deal outside. Don't they pay these guys enough money? Do they have to resort to dealing on the street?
-
Two words:
OOH FAH
Nats have no bullpen. They have some closers good for one inning, but nothing middle. Been there problem all year. If the starter doesn't go 7 stellar innings, the Nats don't win.
You don't win playoffs that way.
AND
base running mistakes to kill a rally? Really?
Bases loaded no outs and then....
Can't leave the number of runners stranded the Nats do and expect to beat a really good team...in the playoffs....more than once.
-
Does it bother anyone else that Rodney can't wear his hat properly? I know I'm old school and I'm sure their is some reason for it, but it looks silly. Is he a gangsta?
Maybe he could wear his jersey inside out, and then nobody would know who he really is and the Nats could then disguise him as an actual relief pitcher. :uh-huh:

“Rodney is known for wearing his cap tilted at an angle toward the left side of his head. He said in 2016 that it came about as a tribute to his father, who was a fisherman. Ulise Rodney also wore his cap tilted to the side because that was the side the sun hit his face. Rodney also said the tilted cap could be confusing for both hitters and baserunners. "The hitter looks for your eyes. It's like a dog. When you go somewhere, the first thing (a dog) looks at is your eyes and how you move."”

Okay, I can respect that. The dad part. I'm cool with that.
But....It should have become apparent to him that he's not facing dogs....and it is certainly NOT confusing ANY hitter based on his record of performance and ERA

The Nationals will be without Víctor Robles (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/10227/) once again due to his balky hamstring. He is expected to be able to pinch hit if necessary, however. Michael A. Taylor (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/9784/) will cover center field and Ryan Zimmerman (https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7627/) gets a start at first base:

8. Michael A. Taylor (R) CF
9. Max Scherzer (R) P
as we’ve seen with the Caps, the fat hasn’t sung until the last possible moment, and I’d bet good money that a bunch of 10 year olds can not do better. There is a reason the average age of a pro team is almost 30, and there is a reason this is a best of 5

maybe this will help too..

Let's hope Mad Max brings his A game. And the rest of the team brings it bats.
GO NATS!
-
GO NATS!!!
-
Nats are looking more like an MLB team. That's how you manufacture runs. Thank goodness for Sherzer having a good night so far.
-
still early, but looking good so far
-
Zimm goes YARD !!!!!!!
-
:goal:
3-RUN HOME RUN
-
Fucking bullshit sending the runner back to second. "STUCK", MY ASS!
MLB refs as fucked up as NHL.
-
LMAO. Karma sent Turner to third anyway!
 :snicker:
-
DOOOOOOOO!!
-
the fat lady needs to sit the fuck down
-
Pretty well played game by the Nats.
On to Game 5!
-
That was more like it. Watched on about 2 hour delay so just finished.
Nats stars were stars so they win
Turner, Rendon, Zimm, Sherzer all played well and did what was needed
Sherzer sure has compete in his DNA
They do like to make it exciting loading the bases and whatnot.
So maybe Stras can have his best game of the year on Wednesday
Go Nats
-
NLDS game 5 today, both of them. Cards at Braves at 5:02 and the important game at 8:37 in LaLa land. The Braves were the best team in the NL this year, but they haven't looked any better than the Nats in the post season.
anticipated lineups:
Nationals

RF Adam Eaton
3B Anthony Rendon
LF Juan Soto
1B Ryan Zimmerman
2B Howie Kendrick
C Kurt Suzuki

Go get them NATS!
I won't be home till about 9:30 so in today's baseball speed I'll miss......
maybe the first inning ;D
I hope they win this. Some of these Nats deserve a playoff break, I think.
Zim, Stras, Rendon to name a few. I'm not knocking any of the others, just saying Zim especially spending his whole career here.....would be nice to get somewhere this year.
I remember them sitting Stras YEARS ago to save his arm/career. I wonder how he feels about that now....never really having playoff success.
Anyway, GO NATS
-
Braves management attempted to get rid of the chop and angered the baseball gods
-
damn, thought Rendon had that. Time for Strwberry
-
ground rule double
-
Nice double play! 2nd base runner should have been called out for leaving the dirt. I was worried 2nd baseman was going to burn unnecessary time tagging him and miss the double play.
-
this is unlike Strawberry
-
I KNEW they were going to miss that catch! :uh-huh:
-
this ump has been far too generous, Nats finally get a run
-
Antony goes yard!!
-
Soto goes yard!!!!
back to back, game tied at 3
-
it just got real quiet in LaLa land
-
I watched the two home runs while cleaning. Awesome inning!
-
Intentionally getting hit by a pitch should be an instant out. Turner is an actor in LaLa land.
-
Going to extra innings tied 3-3 with the Nats big hitters up next.
-
NATS GRAND SLAM!!!!! 7-3 NATS
-

-
This is crazy. I was ready to shoot Kendrick and his errors but damn!
-
If only we had some middle relief. Using Corbin is fine but normally it would be nice to have someone actually in the bullpen
-
I can’t recall a game with so many appealed check swing strikes
-
And I was cursing the homeplate ump and his strike zone. Lala gals were living on called strikes that were balls
-
Two outs.
Cmon Nats
Zim is gonna cry
-
Was that a catch
-
:B:
:wow:
:super:
NATS WIN!!!!
-
That was such an exciting game! Shaky start and they never stopped playing.
I too was surprised at Kendrick's awful fielding early on. He's the hero now!
-
Crap! NLCS Game 1 starts at the same time as the Caps game tomorrow. Wait, make that later today!
-
Wow. That was good. Never quit. Good to see in professional sports these days.
Go Nats!
-
Picked another good one to watch! No shame here, I got a straight up "man crush" on Rendon.. Go Nats!!

NLCS game 1 at the Cards is Friday, the ALDS has to play game 5 tonight
