Lest ye not forget...the game was in NY...for some reason the refs ALWAYS favor the Rags in NY during the playoffs.
Think its only ever been worse in a few SHittsburg series than vs NYR in NY
To me I dont think it was total lack of effort.  Some yes, but they just looked gassed.  It's not that the would not compete, but that they could not compete.
Still..you got to get up for the big games.

This is fine, as long as it’s consistent, and consistently enforced on both teams.

I used to watch rounders a lot. There were umpires behind the plate that were very inconsistent during a game. What was a strike in the 1st inning wouldn’t be by the 4th, but would be again by the 7th. Those umps had very thin skin when called out on it.

 :lmao:

If I was a youngun'', take Milly for instance, but it could be ANY of 'em, but I would need to make a speech.   .....

"     I came here from a winning team.  A serial Calder Cup winning team, to play for a Stanley Cup winning team.  Once upon a time......  I thought that was to improve my hockey skills,  not my golf handicap.

This may be my only chance, my only opportunity........   An injury, a concussion..........  any split second this dream could be over.
I ain't here for the laughs.  Take a shit or GET OFF THE POT.  Some of us want to play.  Some of us aren't so good at losing as you old fuckers!
Some of us may never get this chance again.

YOU OLD BASTARDS HAVE A RESPOSIBILITY TO US.     "

Refs have their tendencies and preferencies.   What they will let slide, what their bug bears are.

Im pretty sure we are all on the same page with that. But, personally, I do get tired every now and then of pissing uphill into the wind.

A bit like being a Caps fan then.    ;)

I ALWAYS check out (thanks Alta) who the refs are.  Many of the old biased bastards have gone, but there are still a few left. Refs have their tendencies and preferencies.   What they will let slide, what their bug bears are.

There has been a whole new generation of refs come through recently and they seem less influenced by "Toronto" and the golf set than previously.

Don't get me wrong, Vegas is very much the shining light these days, whereas the sun that used to shine out of the Penguins arse is very much dimmed..........   :P

I hate to use the "if that had been Tom Wilson" thing, but it is a fair comment in this case, and if it had been Wilson, there is no question in my mind he would have been penalized, thrown out of the game and suspended.

I still don't get that there has been no discussion of what I thought was a nasty boarding of Iorio.  That could easily, and in my opinion should bave been a 5 minute major and a hearing on a suspension.  Iorio has a couple feet from the boards and leaning and the guy pushed him headfirst - that could have ended really badly.

Good post - I agree on everything and you are absolutely right that the lack of effort was really, really disappointing. I didn't expect to win, but thought we would fight a lot more.  There was one point that I thought Ovi was going to engage as he tried to make a big hit, but that was it. He looked old, slow and disinterested.

Maybe they will show up next game.  That has somehow happened in the past.
