I've been thinking about this, we all love an outdoor game and lake Louise is beautiful, but I think it's stupid for the league to incur the cost of this if fans aren't going be allowed to attend

I can't believe we have to wait until January for the season to begin.

And How are they going to manage 82 games?  Or we just going to permanently move the season start back to Dec/Jan?  THat's stupid

How about just shorten this season to 60 games this year and then get back to normal next year?'

I know the league is short on revenue, but I'm not really digging hockey past June (you know....being life-long Cap fan and all, I'm used to the season ending in April)
Title: Re: State of the league

it will take at least three seasons to get the schedule back to where it should be under bettmans leadership. It could be done in two if they cut the next couple seasons down to 60 games, which won't do much to bring the fans back

there are quite a few teams that will have problems making a decent ice sheet in their arena in August, and not just ones in the south either. Though it will be easier if the building isn't full of fans. There's a reason it's a winter sport

The only way the NHL plays 82 games this season is if the summer olympics gets canceled before the season starts. NBC has the contract to broadcast both the NHL and the oylmpics, and the general consensus is they can't do both at the same time.

I'd be good with a shorter season this season to attempt to get back to a "normal" schedule over the next couple years.
Reduce it to 60 games this year....70 next, then back to 80-82 the following.

I think most of us would've been ok with just canceling the rest of 19-20 so 20-21 could be normal, instead of dealing with the bullcrap for 2-3 more years

February?  Jesus...is it due to Covid concerns?  I realize it has been a short offseason, but hell, most teams have been off since end of August, so they will have 3-4 months if season starts Jan 1.
How much friggin time do they need?  Pushing it to Feb just prolongs the agony for two more years to come.

Hope the NHL starts January, but doubt that if AHL and OHL have pushed to February.

But that's beside the point.  My point was the longer they keep dicking with this season....the more seasons down the road it will take to get back to "normal:
AND
they should have just bit it last year after the long layoff and canceled the stupid Covid Cup and started more normal from here moving forward.
AND

I'm bored.

as I see things at this point, there are two impediments to playing hockey this year. The election and that jackass bettman

bettman became league commissioner on February 1 1993, prior to that he worked for the nba
it's time for him to be physically thrown out

Yeah.  That makes sense.  I'm not going to be surprised if the season is suspended altogether.
If they don't get it started before Jan 20 (cough, cough) then it won't likely happen because come Jan 21.....we are going to be in another shut down crisis.  (which will of course be Trump's fault)

thought I posted this the other day...

if things keep going this way, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a season because the NHLPA strikes

Post by: richkrt99 on Friday November 20, 2020, 05:00:01 PM Eastern
The players won't accept further pay reductions"?

SO if they start the season and then Commander Covid craps his depends and calls for cumulative collapse of the economy.....and the season ends at 10 games...
The players still expect to be paid for 70 games?

Um.  No.

Oh wait...I'll tell all my customers due to Covid I can no longer fulfill any of their needs, but I will still bill them fully for all the products and services (not rendered)
Works for me  :)

Man, I'm thinking the season is in real danger (as is this country)  (sorry...mixed into wrong thread)

How can the players expect to get paid a full season salary if they do not play a full season?  Nobody gets paid for completing 65% of a contract...well nobody I know.
Oh...sorry...they agreed to 10% reduction (of their already ridiculous salaries) for cutting the season by 25-40%.  That's equitable.

I'm getting ready to just say F-them...just like about every other sport.  I gave up on NFL about 5 years ago and have not missed it one bit.

Offside adjustment sounds good. Need for the commie states to start letting fans back in now!

So the off-sides rule is basically as long as one skate is not completely across the blue line, they are on side even if the rear skate is in the air?

So the only change is that the rear skate does not have to be on the ice?

This should make Cindy happy....in case he floats across the line doing one of his reverse double humpback camel toe moves  :raspberry:

That's how I read it.. Skate doesn't have to be ON the ice any longer.

Holy shit! We're ONLY playing teams in our division, the entire 56 game schedule/season? :raised-eyebrow:

Yeah, that's kind of difficult when you are in the tough division.  But you got to beat the good teams to win so....

ALso...Caps play nearly every Sunday of the season.  (and Tuesday,....and Thursday)

17 Days til Caps Hockey!

Go Caps!

my guess is the normal we're used to. NBC still has the primary contract until July.

I'm glad hockey is back!
I really wanted to see Vancouver play the Caps
Not even 1 game with another division, what a strange decision just to play people in our division.
I guess if there is an outbreak, they can contain it to one division?

That's the way it should be, this every team plays each other twice a season is fukin stupid, IMO. The best scheduling of recent memory was Boudreau's first season when the Caps played everyone in the south east division twice in the last 2 weeks of the season. That's how you get good rivalries, and good playoff hockey. All 31 teams, soon to be 32, playing each other twice in one 82 game season uses too much of the schedule that should be used for divisional games.

will the monumental sports foundation have to start donating to themselves to make sure the team stays solvent with no fans in the stands?

Don’t know what second screen is supposed to mean, but it’s a pointless waste of money if I can’t see them during the regular game broadcast.

when did the government start running hockey scheduling..  no fans are allowed and only 400 people are allowed to be there; teams/staff, nhl officials, broadcast crews, nhl crews to assemble and maintain the rink...

THANK YOU NBC!

You know Iv'e hated NBC with a passion for their fucking bias and I've been watching the 2018 SC run again recently, and it is disgusting to listen to these fuckers talk (during the Shitsburgh series especially)  The Caps were down right dominating teams in games and listening to these shmucks it was the other way round.  EVen their compliments were very backhanded when they eventually had to start changing their tune towards the Caps.
It is irresponsible "sportscasting" to put these fuckers on the air.  Now I fully EXPECT some bias with home town guys, but these National guys should NOT show so much team bias in a series.
Anyway, overdue in my opinion, but Penis and Mulbury were the worst two.  Even Doc was losing his fucking grip at the end - tired of listening to him make in his pants everytime anyone got near the damn puck (Heaven forbid somebody ding a post - put Emory into ectasy)
Curious that it took so long - Mulbury seemed like he was always pissing off Jones and Roenick with his ramblings.

I will enjoy NOT hearing them.

there were a couple times with Dingleburry and Jones that I thought was going to be a fight during the commercial

I’m annoyed by the reason they fired Dingleburry, but he should’ve been canned years ago
