Seriously though, the current roster (without Panik) shows cap space of 1.912m.  Add Panik's 2.75, subract Boyd's 700k and we're over literally like 100k.  I'm wondering if they have some wiggle room elsewhere or they can subtract for Hags, but he is just a scratch and not technically off the roster.

Probably because Panik sucks. He's bad luck. We were doing fine without him. He had 0 impact when he was playing.

Just finished the game
Wow. These Caps have been watching the Nats or something. No quit in them
Sammy didn’t look so great.
Sucks Osh was offsides. Kind of knew we were doomed in the shootout. Well especially after Oshie  missed. I always prefer to shoot second
Good comeback though.


Got to figure out how to win with less than 4 goals


Another point. Another 2 goal night for a Cap.

One thing should be abundantly clear and that is that Boyd is better than Panik.  He may not score much but neither does Panik, apparently.  But Boyd always seems to make smart plays with the puck and is dogged along the boards.  Panik is a waste of a roster spot.  Plus, you don't tinker with success.  The Caps need to figure out sooner rather than later that this was a mistake signing.

On another topic, I'm having grave doubts about Samsonov.  He looks unsteady out there and was absolutely awful in the shootout.  You can't play inside the net and expect to stop anything.  You have to get well out of the paint or you've had it.

I think it's too early to tell on Sammy, he's definitely got potential. but the Caps have already gone to two shootouts, and I think that's about the season average

He was pretty lights out in some games earlier in the season though.  Another reason to get him consistent starts....to see if he gets better or is a Jeckyl/Hyde type of dude.

Seems like all goalies struggle in SO's when they're green?? Didn't Holtby lose a couple before figuring it out?


As for Panik.. Yea, didn't notice him when he was healthy, didn't notice him when he was LTIR, and didn't notice him last night..  :smirk:

Sammy isn't completely green, he's got KHL experience, but that seems to be a league for NHL retirees and guys that aren't good enough for the NHL

According to Fox Sports Arizona, the Coyotes became the first team in NHL history to win road games on consecutive days against the two prior Stanley Cup winners. The Blues won last year, and the Capitals won the year prior.
Per the broadcast, there have been 69 prior occurrences of a team facing the last two Cup winners in a back-to-back situation on the road.
