Title: DC & Ladys Hockey Vacation Travel Log
Post by: DC_1908 on Sunday December 17, 2017, 01:20:51 PM Eastern
Day One:
11:30 AM:  while doing her hair/makeup, Lady scrams my first, MIDDLE, and last name from the bathroom when she’s the empty bottle of Lone Star I had for my shower beer.    I laughed, a lot. . . .  (few things are as amusing as when Lady drops the three names)

Lady hates the shower beer, why anyone could is baffling.

We are now on the way to her great Aunts, and to introduce me to Freebirds burritos.  Now i don’t care how good the burritos are, by god any place called Freebirds damn well better be playin Skynyrd nonstop!

and yet to have Whataburger

more later

5pm:  on the way back from  Ladys great-aunts place (who is awesome btw), a “convenient” exit of 35, Lady happens to find one of her favorite stores (. . . ).  Good news, is there was a Signature Kroger (or as we called it in college “K-Rodger”), which usually has awesome beer section. .  . and this one did!

Texted alta about a brewery in his favorite neighborhood in Dallas (and this beer is awesome!)

But best of all, not only did I talk the beer lady at the store to open a Sam Adams Xmas 12 pack so I can get the 2 Old Fezzies (one of my all time favs), but they had the coveted and very difficult to find Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. . ."an Imperial Stout brewed with a blend of coffees and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup."  . . .oh hell ya!  Maaco you'll have to try it. . .

needless to say I bought a lot (well, . . .I kept it under $150), and I gotta lotta drinking to do before Thursday AM . . .

Day2: 4pm.   Both wrapping up work. . .and for the record, particularly those in the IT field, “because I said so” should be sufficiant for the change control bullshit that takes twice as long as it did designing and writing said change . . .

But now as works done, I had to try this!!  not a bad beer but the can is totally kick ass!
goes great with a cigar too!

We’re doin a brewery hop tonight, so more later. . . 😁

I'll have to look around for it. I just good home from the liquor store. Funny thing is I rarely drink Canadian beer. I always get imported beer. Today I got 6 Steinlager 6 Heineken 6 Grolsch and 6 Peroni. I'm always up for trying something new.

it’s actually from a Michigan brewery (Founders),  they just named it Canidian Breakfast Stout (CBS) for the maple.  It can be very hard to find ( In Mich.  people will line up outside of stores when it’s released), so look for it in the “high end/rare” section.  It’s a tad bit pricey (that 22 was $30) but worth every cent!

Day 3 continued:  Well, you prolly will believe this shit.  Last night we stopped at a Total Wine after dinner ( and a damn nice one two), and Lady and I found the newest members of my elite favorite beer list.  Both of which are from Rahr & Sons in Ft Worth.  The cans say “Quality Brewed * Community Strong* Texan Proud. . , and shit you they do not!

-Oktoberfest Marzen Lager:  with Marzen being one of my favorite types, I look at most beers saying “Marzen”, with the cynicism of a Caps playoff series.  This is the equivalent to the Caps winning a series in 4, with a total score of 40-0 and 50 fights.

-Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer:  “aged in Jack Daniels American Oak Barrels”. . . I need more,  and more, and more . . .

OMG, that sucks!  I just did a search for a sports shop in Dallas that might have Capitals Sweaters/Jerseys and came up empty.
Have fun anyway.  It should be a good game.

Damn if I knew you were going to be without a jersey I would have sent down my autographed number 74.

Well i’m not that worried about the Stars game, I bought Lady & I Stars jerseys as they’re my third team ( and Lady looks hot as hell in hockey jerseys, and in green 😈).  Besides, when two of my teams are playing, I always wear the home teams jersey and a t-shirt of the visiting team underneath, primarily out of respect for the fans.  As I see it, it doesn’t matter who you want to win, you’re a guest in someone’s house.  If they are great hosts, respect then and be as gracious as possible.   This is how I met our people here who are now our lifelong friends.

Also our or freinds here alec highly known and respected Stars fans.  They’re  the Stars equivalent to Goat/Horn guy. . . so it’s be a dick move on my part to wear/openly root for the visiting team while hanging out with such awesome and generous people.

A great story that gets repeated a lot, is I get thanked several times by the Stars STHs every time  I come here . . . this is because my friend is the fans STH president and asked me for suggestions, so I told em about how the Caps (used to) have there STH party at 6 Flags, so to have an STH party there (particularly as the Arlington 6 Flags is better than Wild World)

Regardless, I’m more concerned about the Vegas game,  but I will get Lady and I GK jerseys. Because his many times can you get a jersey from a teams first year?

Need to either put DC on a beer limit or his thumbs need a diet? lol :o ;D Hope you kids have a great time out of town!! You two have got me to adopt Dallas as my 2nd team, due to the single fact that their goal "chant/song" is bad ass!! Hope you get to hear it (once) coupled with a couple bouts of crowd "silence" tonight!  :P

On a side note, the term "travel log" originates from the 15th century in England, where migrant peasants looking for work, would offer wood for locals to burn in exchange for a warm place to sleep.  It became common, and somewhat of an expectation that migrant workers would bring some small offering in exchange for quarter.  During the ice age, this was most often wood to burn, though sometimes it might be a small meat offering, relatively clean cloth, or an unwanted virgin.  Unwanted virgins were common at the time, as most people were exceedingly unattractive due to harsh winds, open sores, and dental hygiene deficiencies; while meat and relatively clean cloth were exceedingly uncommon.

In Old English "travaille logue" - as you can see the French Norman influence on the term.

I love words...  I guess you might say I'm an amateur entomologist.

Hope you guys have a frackin fantastic time  :D

Have fun Lady and DC!  Don't do anything I wouldn't do...

Well DC I hope you and Lady enjoyed that excellent game. And the right team won. I'm glad Dallas started Bishop over Lehtonen. Bishop didn't have a great game.

In the past 10 years Vegas has done a lot of marketing to families hoping for more $$$$. Sedating children should be permissible on occasion

How to work remote in FLA:

1.  Get up early and finish the highest priority project for that day in an hour or so.
2.  Send the your team with a vague email
3.  Call your team while and have do the testing and validation.
4,  Sit here and plan other projects and maybe take a call or so while listening to Skynard, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, Allmans and Blackfoot
5.  Accept that next week, work will suck
