Karma Feature has been enhanced!
Go to Users' Profile by clicking on their Username then click on "Who changed my karma" or "Whose karma have I changed" to see Karma logs for that user.
The Home Page displays "Last Karma Changes" and also has a link to "Karma Stats" to see a Log of ALL Karma changes.
Clicking on "In Topic" will take you directly to the post that was granted Karma.
To see who granted Karma for a specific post - click on the link "+X/-X karm for this message" in bottom right of post. This will only be displayed on posts which have been given a Like or Dislike using the thumbs up/down under the users avatar in each post.
Warnings will be issued for excessive/abusive use of karma without reasonable explanation and can ultimately cause your ability to grant Karma to be disabled.
Newbies (members with less than 50 posts) cannot grant Karma!

Switching from Dropdown menus to Sidebar menus!
There is an option to switch from Dropdown menus to Sidebar menus, which I prefer, but it is not very obvious how to do this.
On some pages like the Admin, Profile, and My Messages pages there is a little double arrow (https://galactichub.com/CapsForum/Themes/default/images/admin/change_menu.png) icon on the right side of the screen. Click it and it will switch your preference to sidebar menus. Now near the top of the sidebar menu there will be a similar looking double arrow (https://galactichub.com/CapsForum/Themes/default/images/admin/change_menu2.png) , which will switch you back to Dropdown menus.

OK, I think the Karma/like Post feature is a lot easier to use now.
- Dislike post is gone
- No more explanations
- I copied everyone's "Like" count from the old site and added them to any likes received here.
- Everyone's Karma log is visible and you can see who liked your posts there. obviously these log entries will be missing for the Likes I brought over from the old site.
- You can like as many posts as you want, but there is a waiting period of just under 2 minutes before you can Like another post.
- Newbies (under 50 posts) still cannot Like a post.

I've collected some of the best emoticon images I could find for weeks. Today I picked the best of them and made them all consistent in appearance and installed them. I did my best to correlate them to the old ones, so your old posts should show similar ones to what you had previously selected. This was not possible for all of them. If anyone feels that we need others or changes to the current ones, feel free to contact me or post in the suggestions topic.

I have disabled nested quotes!
Some of the posts were getting ridiculous with quotes within quotes within quotes, etc. The site will from now on work as we were previously used to, where only the most recent quote will be in a quoted post.
Similar to the old site you can still quote multiple posts. When you reply to a post or Quote a post and you are NOT using quick reply you will see the most recent posts below the edit panel. You can click on "Insert Quote", which is on the right side of each post. You can add as many of these as you like.
This should make the threads appear much cleaner and more easily readable.

Our forum has been moved to it's new domain WashingtonCapitalsFanForum.com.
I set up some code that will redirect any bookmarks or links to the old site, on any page, to be automatically redirected to the new location for that page.
This was not an easy move. I can't believe I got it done pretty much on the first try. :thumbsup: There were a lot of things to be changed in both the file system and the database. OK, I did lock myself completely out of both the old and new server at one point, but quickly recovered.
I setup a global redirect for everyone's old bookmarks, everything works.
Please post here and send me a PM if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Smileys and Message Icons
I thought I would reveal some of the hidden codes that can be used to insert graphics into your posts. After each of the graphics below you will see typically a word with vertical bars like this one "|"
If you replace each of those vertical bars with a ":" colon, typically one on each side of the keyword then the post will automatically replace the code with the graphic. So for instance typing "8" with a colon on either side will replace that code with a graphic that says "Ovie Score !!"
Anyway, give it a shot.
Some of these are available in the post form by clicking on them or clicking on "more" which pops up a window with some additional ones. The lsit below tells you which are on the post form, popup, or hidden.

Did you read the instructions? Maybe this is too complicated for folks. Replace the vertical bars with : colons
For example :Bettman: will be replaced with a graphic. Except it is case sensitive, so if that had been all lowercase it would have been replaced with a graphic like this :bettman:

I just modified the session and cookie storage length for the site. This should allow you to remain logged in much longer. This impacts the server resources, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I won't have to change it back.
Note: Moderators and admins still have to login frequently to perform site admin functions. This cannot be changed at this time.

Today I made some modifications to the default theme so that it displays better on mobile devices.
Those of you that use your phones and tablets with this forum please provide feedback on how you like it. it should appear quite differently than it did yesterday.

Note: We can have the site display either the way it was prior to today or the way it is now. I don't have time to be rewriting a bunch of code to fix little things, especially since there is finally going to be a major upgrade to the forum software sometime this year and any work I do will all have to be rewritten. When it comes out this will be the first upgrade to the forum software in 4-5 years and should see some improvements in many areas.

Today I added support for embedding Facebook posts and various other audio and video sites like US News and many others. I'm still working on proper Twitter support even though I can't stand them.

I have added the ability to post inline Twitter Tweets in your posts. just add the URL to the Tweet in your post and the forum will automatically write the code to embed the Tweet.

Thanks DC. The transition has taken place and it went smoothly. My old registrar, who I have been with for 24 years kept raising the costs to simply distribute the DNS resolution for my sites. I've had as many as 50 domains with them at once and they kept jacking up the price almost every year. I beat them down a few times, but this past year they would not budge, so I have now moved about 75% of my remaining sites to a new registrar. I will move the remaining ones (about 7-8 more) over the next 2-3 months as they near their renewal period. I have been testing a new registrar for the past 4 months and am very happy with their service. The cost is 30% to 60% lower for domain names and they don't charge fees for "extras" the old company loved to screw you for. In fact, when I warned the old company they were surely going to lose ALL my business if they did not lower my costs they refused to lower my cost, but they suddenly offered the optional features for free. which they always should have been since it cost them nothing to begin with.
Compare this domain name registrar jack ass company with my website hosting company that I have also been with for about 25 years. My hosting company has never raised my rate on ANY of my products with them. In fact, for being a long time customer they often give me things they would normally charge for for free.
Loyalty works both ways and greed or crappy service will guarantee my commitment to shit list a company, and when I do this I do it for life.
