if this is accurate, I'd have no problem with it

I’m surprised it took this long, & he didn’t ask for more

Works for me.  Seems a bit on the cheap on the Ovie side, but maybe he doesn't care.  At this point, what's another $2-3 mil when you have 100?
Plus, maybe he's just trying to keep the band together.  I think I'd stay with a team/group/town I spent my whole career in, where my family lives, etc.
But then, maybe in a real hockey town he could be a super-star

Unless he is really hungry for another cup and he thinks he can get a legit shot somewhere else....but how do you know year to year who is actually gonna have a shot.

Same here.  Hopefully he is thinking the money saved on his contract can go to a decent top 4 DMan that'll get him back to the SC finals.

Well, Ovi IS a superstar anywhere he goes, but what I meant was in a real hockey town....he would be front page news everyday.  Like Toronto or Detroit or Moscow.  He would be interviewed after every game, practice, etc.  He would get the local attention a star of his magnitude deserves.  Not that he doesn't get attention here, and he has help create a huge atmosphere for hockey in this town that wasn't here previously, but not like the stardom he would get elsewhere.
The money at this point is kind of irrelevant.  I mean to me...2-3 mil is life changing.  To Ovi, at this point...what's another 2-3 mill a year when you already have 100?  I mean what can you do with 115mil than you can't do with 110?

Hopefully at his age his family life and team mates means more than the daily front page and the check book, which bodes well for Caps I think.  I'd expect he makes a fair deal that keeps him here - especially with a new head coach....maybe a shot at another cup.  WHat career goals could he achieve elsewhere that he can't achieve here?

Go Caps
