What's the weather lookin' like up nawf?? They gonna do this or what?
-
As long as both teams are in town it should be fine, it’s cold but it’s dry.
-
I think Ovie pots #801 tonight. He's due again.
-
What a god awful PP. Even worse then the first one. :-\ Bout 20 seconds of zone time. lol

Pretty solid through 40. Still haven't seen a replay of Charlie's short handed save. Thought for sure that was goin in. Too bad the PP sucks all night.
-
Wonder where the Lass and Hillbilly are?
-
looks like Carlson will miss the rest of the game, that looked like it hurt
-
Holy shit that didn't look good at all. Carlson took that straight in the side of the face. Instant blood. Glad he got up and skated to the room on his own. Joe said it was a 90+ MPH slapper. :-(

I really wish this particular goal hadn't been an empty-netter. I'd like to see him reach milestones with goals in straight-up play. But now it would seem that there are only two goals left to reach - if he could somehow get to 50 goals this season it would be his 10th, breaking the all time record. And then there is 894.
-
Hope he's ok. :-\

I agree. #802 shouldn't have been an empty netter, IMO. Call me a purist. In fact, I'd be happy if he didn't have any empty netters from here on out. Gretzky had 56 empty net goals and Ovie has 54 now. We don't need people carping about the record because he has 60-65 empty net goals. That aside, the Caps are rolling and it's nice to really anticipate games again. Now, they need to win the division games.

Wayne, this is such a tough call. If Kuzy had taken the goal when Ovie fed it to him that would have been fine. Problem is, if Ovie dithers with the puck or just shoots it away not to score, and Winnipeg takes it down the ice and scores, then there's a tight game in the waning seconds that shouldn't be. So what is Ovie supposed to do?
I'm not really a fan of trying to pull the goalie early when a team is multiple goals behind. Play it straight, try to get within one goal, THEN pull the goalie. This seems like a more and more common occurrence lately, which leads to more ENG. Ovie's had 6 of them in the last few weeks - probably an aberration, but you're right, it doesn't look good.
-
It can be solved by just keeping Ovie off the ice when the net is empty, at least half the time. I swear Ovie purposely missed that long shot that grazed the post. He was probably sheepish about getting #802 into an empty net but couldn't intentionally flub two chances.
-
Congrats Ovi. kind of like a better 802 but when he gets to 895 nobody will care about #802
Another nice win. really been playing well, but so has nearly every one else in the Division. It's crazy
Go Caps.
Merry Christmas Cap Fans

Well, here we go again.
Now the Caps, with their good recent play, are on the edge of the playoffs again. We're going into January, so if the team hangs on for another couple of months it is likely that they will try to add talent at the trade deadline, especially if Backstrom won't be able to play until the playoffs (if ever again), since his huge LTIR cap exemption would still be in play. This franchise is now in limbo -- good enough to make the playoffs or threaten for it, but not good enough to be a serious Cup contender -- that will keep them chasing after what really isn't a realistic goal and putting off the inevitable rebuild.
It's the irony of the current salary cap structure: The larger Backstrom's contract is and the worse it looks as an investment in a playing asset, the BETTER it is for the team if he ISN'T able to play.
