Ian Cole misses practice day after brutal fight with Tom Wilson, Nikita Zadorov promises revenge

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ian Cole reportedly missed practice Friday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and is likely injured after his fight with Tom Wilson.
The news was first tweeted by longtime Avalanche reporter, BSN’s Adrian Dater.
Cole, a former Penguin, leveled Evgeny Kuznetsov with a blindside headshot in the third period of the Capitals’ 4-3 overtime win. To avenge the hit, Tom Wilson instigated a fight with Cole seconds later and landed over 15 punches and uppercuts to Cole’s head.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IFQ2Weo6FU
Kuznetsov was sent to the quiet room for concussion protocol while Cole, ejected for his major for interference, was bleeding from multiple gashes opened up on his face.
Friday after practice, Cole’s teammate Nikita Zadorov talked about the fight and said it was not “fair.”
“When you jump the guy from behind, I don’t think it’s a fair fight than when you have your jersey over your head for half of the fight,” Zadorov said. “The linesmen were there as well. They should have separated that fight before that because Colesy got so many punches. I don’t think it was fair. Tom Wilson is obviously a tough customer but Colesy is the same thing. There are a few guys that can fight Wilson in this locker room so I have no doubt we’re going to step [up] next game.”
Wilson and Zadorov do have a history.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3Y3Ku69plw
The Avalanche and Capitals, unfortunately, have no more games remaining on the schedule this season. But if Tom Wilson proved anything with Jamie Oleksiak, he has a long memory.
-
You can bet your ass Ian Cole will NEVER issue a dirty hit on a Washington Capital again as long as Tom Wilson is under contract with the Caps. I don't normally enjoy guys getting hurt, but he was asking for it with that head shot on Kuzy. We've lost a few guys due to dirty hits and this message needed to be sent.
:uh-huh: :snicker:
Washington Post just pointed out that this is the first time all season that Washington has an injury and suspension-free roster.

4-1 in power plays on our ice. Fucking refs.

Connolly for pointless slashing. What an idiotic penalty.

4-1 in power plays on our ice. Fucking refs.
We deserved this one. Stupid penalty, especially so late. It was completely unnecessary.
-
Even if we somehow win I wouldn't be happy. This team is a fucking pile of hot steaming pig shit. We shouldn't be so tightly matched against a bottom feeder team like the Panthers. We're not going to make the playoffs if we can't beat basement teams in convincing fashion.
-
Shit for brains penalty.. I don't care how many goals he scored, he should get a scratch next game. These guys are already the worst at taking penalties and that's the decisions they're making? Anyway, like Apace41 said, the point is a gift..
-
Meh.
Night all.
-
 :suicide: :gundang:
A well deserved LOSS!
-
Deserved to lose but Willy got tripped twice on one shift with no call. Total crap.
-
Hard to believe that’s our best effort against a mediocre team. A soft team like FL needs to get hit all night and we played a wuss game
-
Yep garbage game by a garbage team.
We should seriously call Coach Q. I don't know what Ted is fucking waiting for. Waiting for us to miss the playoffs and for some other team to get to Q first?
Top lines are garbage. We won't survive without them playing better. AO needs to play like he's worth his contract, he's been brilliant at times but fucking cold lately and that's not helping. I give 0 fucks that Bura was on the scoresheet this game. He's garbage and we should get rid of him. For every 1 good game he has, he also has 40 garbage games where he's a liability. Ship the fucking loser out.
Reirden must be getting kick backs from every major country club in the DC area because he's coaching like he wants to send his entire team to a summer-long golf outing.

4-1 in power plays on our ice. Fucking refs.
Yeah the refs suck. Gary Bettman's butt buddy, Sidney Crosby, frequently gives him the big ol' puppy dog eyes and asks Buttman to bribe NHL refs to fuck us in the ass just like Gary and Sid do to each other.
But you know what? We shouldn't be in a position against a basement team where bad reffing is even a factor in the game. Our play should be strong enough where we can overcome that sort of shit. The Panthers currently have a cap hit that's $10 million less than ours. They beat our asses and still have enough "fuck you money" to build a giant gold statue of all 30 other NHL head coaches running train on Toddy boy.
I hope Reirden has his vacation tickets booked for April 7th because he sure as hell isn't going to be doing any work after that date.
-

We should seriously call Coach Q. I don't know what Ted is fucking waiting for.
That would be a move Pittsburg would make. Ted will never do it beacause it would cost him money and because he doesn’t lhave the stomach for tough moves and aggressive changes. In this case he knows if he fires Reardon, it will ruin his career. Maybe that’s fair and you can argue it’s all on the players, but teams that win a 2nd and 3rd Cup know when to make aggressive moves.
-
Back from the game.
Actually, Florida played well, and it was one of those games where guys got fortunate on tips and such. The puck was ping-ponging around a lot. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the other team, or realize that the predominance of fortunate bounces is on their side. Holtby actually had a pretty good night, though the results don't say it. Of course, Kempny's blown tire was just an unfortunate footwork issue. I have to give the team credit though; they stuck with it even though they were chasing the game the whole night and did manage to pick up a standings point. As tight as things are, every point counts.
It's true that the top 2 lines were pretty much invisible almost the entire game. It got better in the 3rd when Reirden switched Vrana and Ovechkin. A lot of people are saying that Ovie/Backstrom/Oshie is too slow for a top line in today's NHL, and it did look better when they split up the speed. The Eller line was by far the best, and for that matter, Burakovsky was the best forward on the ice for either team tonight. For whatever reason, he was really on his game, and he was having puck luck, in that the puck was getting to him in places where he could do something with it. He has skills of course, but he never seems to be able to free himself to use them.

The only thing worse than the Caps right now is this POS "My Teams" app from Comcast.
I canned that app after sorely trying it for 3 weeks. Followed it with a sizzling-ass letter, too! Let em have it!
I am realistic, as the letter just made me feel good, as there is ZERO expectation that the young, millennial, marketing, fuck, that I emailed it too, actually read the thing. The first three-syllable word he came to, that he didn’t recognize, started the automatic, index finger, muscle synapse twitch, that presses the all to familiar delete button. Further insuring his boss never gets the complaint! A well rehearsed move, that guarantees the survival of that SHITTY MY TEAMS APP! Well at least for 90 days, which is an eternity to that aforementioned millennial marketing fuck! LOL😂🤣

Well Rush, I guess all of us real men are “to slow for today’s NHL” huh?
I mean “in today’s NHL”,
if any thing that Dorthy Hammel couldn’t program is to sophisticated for new fans, so q simple app is to much for “today’s NHL” programmers and IT staff, why the hell do they still allow goalies?
i mean goalies are slow and slow down the game after all, so why don’t Mr Bettman and Mr Leonis just get rid of them? After all,it will speed up the game and up the scoring

Yeah Bura had a strong showing but I wouldn't want BMac to let a good game here or there convince him to keep the dead weight. I'd bet money that Bura's just going to try to play strong up until the trade deadline to save his livelihood in DC and then he's going to play like shit once he's "safe" and doesn't have a fire under his ass.
I'm a bit worried that BMac thinks that just because Bura has a few good games and "the 3rd line is clicking" that he'll want to keep the line together for the playoffs. Well, with Todd at the helm we shouldn't be worried about the playoffs.
-
I hate to say this, but last night when they showed Reirdens face in the 3rd it was the first time I thought this guy doesn't have a clue. I hope I'm wrong.

Don’t be surprised if you’re right, there’s a strong chance Bura is here til the end of his contract or extend.
They waited to long and his value had dropped. Also GMBetaMale more than likely will trade him as a salary dump and to gain draft picks prospects.
Also, moving him for a cheaper player who could help us more, would look terrible for the Caps management. Monumental likes the big deals at the deadlines, and Bura won’t be enough
IE, could see then trading him for MoJo straight up? MoJo would help the team each night, be more consistent and provide better depth and help face-offs and special teams way more than Bura, even NJ may do that as he’s a UFA next year
-

I definitely had problems with Mojo when he was here but he's a lot better than Andre "pile of rocks" Burakovsky. Perhaps Mojo could help us on zone entries on the PP so Kuzy won't have to always lose the fucking puck when he goes 1 vs 4 like an idiot. So yeah I wouldn't mind bringing Mojo back but can't help but think there's a better move out there to address a stronger need (like defense, or even a forward who will keep it simple and play like he's got a pair of balls and work)
-

Lady must have spiked DC's Hopslam with some Monumental Kool-aid. He's talking about trading FOR Mojo. Either that or he has some great "volcano" graphic he doesn't want to waste on Burka.
-
Brouwer is only 850k?
We could sure as hell use him, particularly for that price!
Agreed. I heard them say that and was surprised. He's old (33) and slow, but you could park his as in front of the net, and he does hit people as well. Hell trade him for Burka and some change. I'd rather have Brouwer on 3/4 line than Burka any day. And save $2mil in cap space. Burka certainly has better skills than Brouwer, but Burka just isn't doing it for the Caps. He is NOT a 3/4 line guy and never will be. He forced there on this team and it isn't helping him or us.
Or trade DSP for Brower straight up. Although, I guess Florida would have absolutely no reason to do that. I was really just making a salary comparison.
I'm not looking to sign Troy to a 3 year deal, but he's a bargain at the current price (for another year or two maybe). He's probably a better goals scorer than any of our current 3/4 line guys and would bring some needed toughness. Florida could utilize Burka more than we could and could certainly afford him.
Doesn't that salary seem kind of low for Brouwer, even at age 33?
I realize he is older then all of our 3/4 line guys, but Brouwer has size and toughness and some touch. Speed was never his game and I realize that is the direction the game is going, but net crashers and chip in guys are still effective in today's game.
I looked up the stats - based on total career stats, here are there average points/game over their careers...SO I was just looking at points/game then decided to add in games played, age, and cap HIT salary for comparison. (Somebody's bored again)
Brouwer: .434 (810 games, 33 years old) $850K Cap Hit
Bearkowski: .448 (301 games, 24 years old) $3.0 mil
Dowd: .238 (172 games, 28 years old) $650k
DSP: .258 (391 games, 26 years old) $1.0 mil
Jaskin: .230 (300 games, 25 years old)
Boyd: .381 (42 games, 25 years old) - $800k (I was going to leave him out as he has only 42 NHL Games, but was looking at a comparison of our 3/4 line guys, so...)
Stephenson: .219 (128 games, 24 years old)
Conno: .344 (401 games, 26 years old) $1.5 mil
I realize Brouwer is much older than every one of these guys, but strictly as a 3/4 line player for THIS Caps team, I feel he would be an upgrade to any of the wingers on this list, and with some flexibility in our other guys (Stephensen, Boyd) you could utilize them as centers.
Honestly, based on the PRICE of what we pay these guys, I don't have a problem with ANY of them except Burka (and his stats/age argue he is better than the rest of these guys and doesn't really belong on this list, BUT that IS part of the argument...Burka is NOT a 3/4 line guy, so don't make him one. The rest of these guys, I pretty much see as career 3/4 liners (Brouwer there for the remainder of his career) (Maybe Stephenson will break the top 6 at some point, but not currently.)
Anyway, Brouwer would be a steal at $850 Cap hit. Lots of experience and some grit. Definitely an asset to a playoff team. I realize we would give up a much younger and more valuable asset in Burka, but We can't resign him next year (well, I sure as hell hope not), so why not move him for an upgrade in something. I also realize Brouwer's stats are declining as the years pile on, but he could still contribute to THIS Caps team.
Probably should have posted this in the "Trade Burka" thread but....DC started me down this rabbit hole...
Okay, so apparently I am really bored and don't care about the amount of work I need to be doing...
Here's what we these guys are getting payed currently, strictly based on production: I divided their current yearly salary by their career points averaged over 82 games...
Brouwer: $23,884 per point produced
Burka: $81,663
Dowd: $33,306
DSP: $47,268
Jaskin: $58,324
Boyd: $25,606
Stephenson: $36,196
Conno: $53,176
Brouwer is a real bargain at $850k. Granted, his average points per year are declining, so figure maybe 25 points/year and that's $34,000 per. Plus I think he brings more than the point value in toughness - especially compared to our 3/4 line guys (except maybe Jaskin)
I personally would not give up Stephenson for Brouwer, and I like Boyd too, but I'd take Brouwer over any of the others at even money.
WHY THE HELL DON'T WE HAVE A "TRADE BEARKOWSKI" THREAD ALREADY?
