Jay Beagle to play against Minnesota Wild after slash to the ribs

(https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=https://img.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_960w/2010-2019/Wires/Images/2018-02-11/Reuters/2018-02-11T215226Z_1848673768_NOCID_RTRMADP_3_NHL-DETROIT-RED-WINGS-AT-WASHINGTON-CAPITALS.jpg&w=1484)
Jay Beagle (right) will be back in the lineup Thursday night. (Brad Mills/USA TODAY Sports)

ST. PAUL, Minn. — As Jay Beagle rehabbed his sore ribs and prepared to play against the Minnesota Wild Thursday after taking a nasty two-handed whack from Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien last game, there was one thing that especially nagged at him.

He didn’t much care that Byfuglien got a $5,000 fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety, or if Byfuglien should have received more discipline. Beagle is not of the opinion that, because he was impeded while skating toward an empty net, the Capitals should’ve been awarded the goal anyway, which would’ve given Washington a two-goal lead with 1:17 left in the game.

[Dustin Byfuglien, Madison Bowey receive fines, but no suspensions after questionable hits (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capitals-insider/wp/2018/02/14/capitals-jay-beagle-forced-to-leave-game-after-being-slashed-by-winnipegs-dustin-byfuglien/?utm_term=.5ae331a7d6ce)]

What still bugs Beagle is that he couldn’t complete the pass over to a wide-open T.J. Oshie for the easy empty-net goal. Instead, Beagle folded after Byfuglien’s slash and the puck never reached Oshie in the middle of the ice. The Capitals got a power play, but the Jets scored the shorthanded goal in the last 15 seconds and then won in overtime, 4-3.

“You can’t control what a ref or anyone else is going to call, you only can control what I can control, and I had the game on my stick and I wasn’t able to make a play to finish it,” Beagle said. “So, I’ve got to make sure I do the job.”

But Beagle was in obvious distress on the bench, just slashed on the ribs by a 6-foot-5, 260-pound defenseman …

“Got to do it,” Beagle said. “You get paid to do it.”

Though the Capitals lost that game, the good news is that they didn’t lose their fourth-line center to an injury. Beagle has six goals and 13 assists, and he’s been more productive of late with one goal and four assists in the past seven games. He’s also Washington’s top penalty-killing forward and takes the most defensive-zone draws on the team.

“He’s recovered well, and that’s good,” Coach Barry Trotz said. “That was a non-hockey play, so to have someone get hurt on that, you never want to see that.”

Asked if a fine was sufficient discipline for Byfuglien, Trotz shrugged several times. “That’s my answer,” he said.

They just said scoring chances were 4-3.  Most of those scoring chances must have missed the net because neither goalie has had to make a real tough save yet.

Here's an old wives remedy for ya :  Cut a raw onion in half, (no need to peel it) and put it by your bed overnight.
Cutting across the grain to allow the most juices to absorb your aliment.

year ago I saw a mountain lion out by Lost River, this when both VA and WVA adamantly denied the possibility. Both states have since said there may a couple cats out there, which to me means a breeding population

Did I ever tell you my mountain Lion encounter in WV? Happened in `85.  Same thing. I reported to the Park Ranger Station in Petersburg and the ranger told me I was delusional and didn't know what I was talking about.  I know the 9-foot long cat that charged me was a mountain lion. It got within 15 feet of me and I saw it clearly. No other cat gets that large anyhow.  I found a website about 10 years ago that listed over 4000 mountain lion encounters since the 80's in the Appalachian, Allegheny mountain, Monongahela forest areas.  They are breeding all over the east coast no matter how much they deny it. A friend of mine in Germantown saw one in his back yard.

Caps can’t sit back in the third period like they did against the Jets.  They need to keep pressing the attack and I would love to see them score the next goal.  They have played well in the first two periods but they need another good 20 mintes.  They just said Backstrom left the game with 7 minutes left to play in the period and did not return.  That is not good.  Did anyone see what happened to him?

The Ranger back then told me they were only out west.  For some reason the National Park Service refused to acknowledge their existence in the east for decades.  Now they admit they are back in the east. The fact is there have been sightings ever since the 70's.  They were pretty much killed off in the east in the 20th century, but they came back.  Bear populations have been and still are increasing and now even a few packs of wolves are starting to make their way east.

Lost River is just over the border where 66 hits 81. That's about a 20 minute drive from Winchester, that's right close to heavy population for an animal that didn't exist

In the 10 years since VA and WV reinstated black bear hunting every year has been a record harvest, and state biologists say there doesn't appear to be an impact on the population. A couple years ago a car hit a black bear just outside warrenton, the state said it weighed 400 lbs  ???

It was a memory I'll never forget.  It was a tricky section and I got trapped between two rocks. The water pressure was pressing me into my boat and I could not even bail out.  The kayak finally folded and it pushed me through, flipped me over and I managed to bail out.  I tried everything to heat up the kayak to remove the slight kink, but it's going to be there forever.   I hope I get better and can get back on the river one day.

I am assuming that by bedding you mean a duvet cover and/or comforter.  I do mine by hand in the tub and hang outside to dry.  Same way I always do my sleeping bags.  Use a gentle soap like Woolite or Ivory Snow so it rinses easily. For down use a soap made specifically for down if you can.

I am assuming that by bedding you mean a duvet cover and/or comforter.  I do mine by hand in the tub and hang outside to dry.  Same way I always do my sleeping bags.  Use a gentle soap like Woolite or Ivory Snow so it rinses easily. For down use a soap made specifically for down if you can.

mattress pad is the bigger issue, I don't use the comforter, and the duvet for the dog is just a light blanket.

It's amazing to think my first fiancé and I never had bigger than a full, and were never uncomfortable. Second significant other is when I went to queen, and was more than enough. I didn't get a king until it was just the dog and I, he's been the biggest bed hog of all, always has to be right in the middle and I know he understands the laying lengthwise thing, but he's a stubborn fuck

Burky is not going anywhere.

Why are you so sure?  (insert Ninja/masked emote here)
He doesn't seem to learn very quickly and his "lone wolf" mentality hardly gels with a sport that is so dependent on TEAM play.  He's been riding the pine quite a lot this year, for that very reason?  If he doesn't get it by now and he's been here long enough, he's not going to get it.
Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the guy.  I like his sense of humour, for sure.  Remember his BIG HAIR in last years Christmass picture,    trying to out-do Big Willy?
If he was in an individual skills competition, I think he'd do pretty well, but he isn't.  I actually think he could do pretty well in a European league, on bigger ice.  His ego is a little too big for the smaller ice and more team orientated NHL.

Am I glad he scored?  I'm happy anytime we score!

Wow! Alan May called out O'Halloran for his crappy non-calls the last two games.  The one on Orpik tonight and the non-call for the slash on beagle last night. He said the refs should be fined for that stuff.  He keeps repeating the name O'Halloran and trashing his past lack of integrity.  Go Alan May!!!!!

I wonder if that's why they chose pink for the cancer charity for the NHL.  Because all you blokes kept mixing your whites and your coloureds? :raspberry:

I pretty much summed it up accurately. You missed nothing related to that.

How thick is the mattress pad? Mine's a piece of cake in the tub. It's supposed to be a sunny 77°F some time next week. You can dry it in the Sun in a just a few hours if you have it out there by noon.  The damn machines wear this stuff out too fast anyway. We almost never use the dryer for our clothes.  The Sun is also a great disinfectant.

We might want to start a laundry board.   I'll get to work on a clothesline icon.   :P
