On Tuesday afternoon, the Capitals announced that they would be giving away rally towels and light sticks before Games One and Two of their First Round matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Like they did during the 2018 playoff run, the Capitals are getting creative with their rally towel presentation. Last year, they spelled out “Unleash the Fury,” created a hockey player, and made a giant Stanley Cup.
For Game One against the Hurricanes, the Capitals have opted to spell out “ALL CAPS” using the rally towels on the seats at Capital One Arena.

I think Carolina tried to play aggressively first 10 minutes, but Backy’s goal has changed the situation

I thought we were smart to feel them out carefully in the beginning. With this type of physicality we will wear the Canes out in a couple games. My concern is dirty and potentially harmful injurious hits by a frustrated Canes team. As long as we can limit mistakes and avoid injuries I feel good about our chances.

He's on the 3rd pair because he's aging and they wanted to minimize his ice time and save him for the playoffs. Now that we're here it's time to use him up. The beatings he gave tonight will affect the rest of this series. I thought they played him smartly tonight. More than a few Canes are smarting as a result.

His age and durability is a concern, but how slow he is, is mine. IMO, the time is now to let Carlson roll on his off side and get comfortable playing with Jensen and only have 1 pair playing with new partners.

The game pretty much went as I figured....We won it with our special teams. :lol: Too bad our "top line" didn't show up and do anything to help the team last night. :wackysmile:
Orpik was a beast with the hits. Old and slow, but he's earning his $1mil and more with hits and leadership. I think this is likely his last year and he played like it last night. It certainly did not look like he wasn't saving anything for the future last night.
When our stars outplay their stars we win. Especially against an opponent with much less talent. Holtby was sharp.
We got outplayed 5 on 5 though. We had some scoring chances that could/should have been goals, but overall the Canes controlled most of the game offensively. Although the Caps pretty well stifled them in the second period.
It wouldn't be our beloved Caps if they didn't make us need heart meds and/or alcohol well before the game was over.
I'll take the playoff win...no matter how it comes. Hope to see better play 5 v 5 on Saturday. 5 v 5 was really where we have been strongest all year. Not liking us getting outplayed.....by Canes, no less.

I hate to see Jake get moved from line two, but don't disagree that Hagelin is better defensively against top lines.
Powerplay and PK looked better. Not sure if that is coaching, opponent, effort, or luck.

I dont really see Vrana as a reliability on D.. He's no Hagelin, but he's not bad, imo.. I like Orpik responsibility on the top D pair, but again he doesn't pass or break out particularly well, so again hobbling the O.. And he's slow. So, we'll see.. I loved the PP looks! Looked totally different in where they lined up with Nick out front instead of Kuz behind.. I like that he didn't just go with the status quo.. Hopefully we get by NC and can work through some stuff in the process.. And we did win, so there's that.. C+ for everybody in game 1.

Juice did look lost on the one goal and I did see him get pushed around ALOT but Canes were physical with everyone. His size/strength has always been my peev with him, but his positioning is usually pretty good. His size is a problem, but we knew that already. He does usually play with good awareness and uses his strengths to try and overcome the size issue.....I just don't think you can in the NHL. Not ragging on the guy, and he usually performs better than his size.
Can't really judge anybody on one game either. Could have been someone else's fault on both goals too...I haven't gone back and watched, but I remember him basically in a position to do NOTHING on the one goal.

Hangover, hell I've got a musty Holtby jersey that I now can't wash since it was lucky last night. I forgot that i had left it stuffed in one of those clear plastic stadium bags after going to the game in Dallas back in January. I pull it out and it is funky. But we won so I can't wash it now. I have not checked into it yet. I downloaded them from torrents last year and then created an easy way for anyone to do the same. I did not get started until round 2 or 3 last year and managed to find them all. If and When I do post it again (depending on how far we go) you will have to jump on it before they are all gone or extremely difficult, or even impossible to get.
