Title: Samsonov Injured by Ovechkin Shot to Head During Practice Today
Post by: ArJunaZ on Tuesday February 04, 2020, 01:16:53 PM Eastern

Sammy left today’s morning skate after taking an Ovechkin shot to the head and suffering a head injury.  He will be evaluated by team doctors.  As a precaution the team recalled Vitek Vanecek from the Bears in case Samsonov is not cleared to back up Holtby who is starting in net tonight against the Kings.

Ouch!
Hope he's okay, how does his mask not prevent these types of injuries?

I would love to engineer a new mask/helmet technology.  There has to be a better constructed helmet in the makings, right?

Ovi was heard to say in Russian:  "Sorry Kid, but seriously?  Man up Sammy...it was a wrist shot...at half speed.

"Haha - I'll rub some Papa Johns pizza on it and get the F back in there"

Then Willy piped in:  "No wonder "tender" is part of the name of the position....got more pads than anyone as it is....(fucking goaltenders)"   8-0

Just teasing...but it didn't look that bad.  Never know with the head though.  Sure they are just being careful.

What I found strange from watching the tape of the shot was that Samsonov didn’t make much of an effort to catch the puck, he didn’t react until the puck hit him.

The mask prevents people from looking like terry sawchuck, and helmets do not prevent concussions. A good helmet will reduce the chances of getting a cuncussion, depending on the type of impact. That's also why hockey players started wearing mouth guards, to reduce the chances of getting concussed,
