Sammy in net huh? That's a surprise! Good surprise, but surprise none the less.. Guess we'll see what they got today! My first wish came true!
Evening chaps. :wackysmile:It appears to be the case. ;D
Let's hope our guys are as up for this game as we are.
if Sammy lets in another soft one like that he should be pulledI am going to report you to a moderator! oh wait!

why do I always feel like the NBC asshats are watching a different game than the one being televised

Who knows what would have happened if Holtby was in net. He is struggling now but he is still better technically than Samsonov. Both the goals on Samsonov were because of poor technique.
Not that I strongly disagree, but we'd probably end up just letting in more soft ones with Holeby.

Both the goals on Samsonov were because of poor technique.I generally agree on this, but that second goal Sammy let in today was on the defense IMO. Never should have left Hornqvist all alone for so long near the crease.
I hope Holtby can get out of his funk. And I hope people realize that tge Caps play a more defensive game when Samsonov is in net. The Caps give up more high danger chances when Holtby is in net.
Reirden is doing a good job developing Samsonov. Putting him in a position to succeed. This is an important game in the development of Samsonov. His biggest test to date.

Did anyone here see a penalty by Siegenthaler? I sure did not.
Way to go Carlson you chickenshit!!Carlson could have played that better but that started when Kempny turned the puck over.

John Carlson and Ovechkin about as energetic as a slug on that little turnover forcing Samsonov to save us again! In the end Samsonov had to bail himself out. It was he that turned the puck over.

The next power play we should put the 2nd squad out first.
The too many men penalty was ridiculous. I think Kuznetsov was going off on a line change but went to the Pens bench. That's one I doubt he will live down. :snicker:
God, we're gonna get killed come playoff time.. Our veteran team getting outplayed again. If they can't get up for a home game vs the Pens, they can't get up.

A lot of that is on the coach. When you see the sloppy play with lazy assed 80' passes through center ice and guys not skating, you ream some guys and let them know it's unacceptable. Instead, we carry on with the same crappy play all game. On another note, they better be looking at a veteran d-man come trade time. Right now, only Gudas and Siegenrthaler look competent in the defensive zone. The other four guys are a disaster waiting to happen.
Yes that is the play I'm talking about. It was poor puck management. This team excels at it.
First off, welcome Kollie!
Secondly I went and checked back to see what I missed, that led to the third goal by Pittsburgh.
No disrespect, but I would disagree with your Kempny turnover assessment.
I did see Kempny attempt an outlet pass, from behind the boards, which made it almost all the way to the blue line, and was intercepted by Pittsburgh... BUT... that was immediately negated by Backstrom.
Then it went back to Kempny again, behind the boards, AND with defenders closing in on him quickly. Kempny then made a perfectly acceptable pass to Carlson, whose USUAL and CUSTOMARY, chickenshit-ass, would NOT TOUCH IT, because he was getting closed in on too! Hence the use of my descriptive words for him!
More importantly to point out is that this is his usual modus operandi!
My opinion only, of course, Kempny’s faux paus was a dripping faucet. Carlson’s was a raging, #5, white-water rapids, by fault comparison!!

So, Oshie takes a slash to the hands on the 2 on 1, no call.. But the great Crosby gets one and it's a penalty? Shocked I am..
All of this resulting from stepping up the physical play and forecheck.
If the Caps had worked that hard for more than the just the 3rd period we would have crushed this game.
If the Caps had worked that hard for more than the just the 3rd period we would have crushed this game.Maybe but the big difference in this game was that Murray was alot better than Samsonov. I don't think the Pens dominated either of the first 2 periods like we dominated the 3rd. The Caps were the better team.

The Caps were the better team.I wouldn't dare lay this on Sammy. Sure he missed one or two he should have had, but I expect Holtby would have been no better. The real problem this game was the lazy attitude. The team came out strong for 5 minutes and then coasted for 35 minutes. Our play in our own end is just awful. Had we worked hard for 60 minutes this would have been a totally one sided win for us.

He may have gotten a shutout, he may have given up 10.

He missed a couple and Murray save an extra couple. Yes, Caps could still win, but it makes a big difference. Caps had plenty of opportunities and somehow couldn't finish or Murray came big. Ovie wasn't himself, he doesn't miss his shot on PP very often. The team wasn't clicking, a way too many turnovers, but it was a very winnable game.
We missed three open nets. A couple of them weren't the best of angles, but we should have made at least one. For a game that we made so many turnovers and failed to execute when we had the chance, it was surprising we had a chance.
Eller - other than a stupid penalty (and one he got away with), he played one of his better games. The NBC announcers were questioning why he wasn't on the ice at the end when we pulled the goalie.
Dowd - thought he played one of his worst games. I'd like to see Boyd get a start.
Defense - I was hoping we would not do anything at the trade deadline. Now, I'm not too sure. Jensen and Kempny worry me with their turnovers, penalties and inability to play physical.
Agree completely on Dillion, but at 3m and change they’d need to move more than I think they’d be willing to.
I think Kempny will be alright. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt though I do worry that his injury has slowed him down. Jensen is another story. He's generally a ticking timebomb in our own end and we don't need more of them with Orlov and Carlson out there. If the Caps really wanted to make a run at this thing, they'd pursue Brenden Dillon from SJ. He's only a -3 on a bottomfeeder and leads the team in hits with 161. He sounds exactly like what the doctor ordered to shore up this defense.
