starting lineups for game 1
Nationals:
The Nationals are planning to use Howie Kendrick (https://www.mlb.com/player/435062) as the designated hitter for the first two games of the series (https://www.mlb.com/nationals/news/nationals-designated-hitter-world-series), which keeps one of their best hitters in the lineup and takes probably their weakest defender off the field. Asdrúbal Cabrera (https://www.mlb.com/player/452678) is inserted into the lineup in his place at second base as the Nats elect to go with offense.
Here is the lineup for Washington:
1) Trea Turner (https://www.mlb.com/player/607208), SS
2) Adam Eaton (https://www.mlb.com/player/284566), RF
3) Anthony Rendon (https://www.mlb.com/player/543685), 3B
4) Juan Soto (https://www.mlb.com/player/665742), LF
5) Howie Kendrick (https://www.mlb.com/player/435062), DH
6) Asdrúbal Cabrera (https://www.mlb.com/player/452678), 2B
7) Ryan Zimmerman (https://www.mlb.com/player/475582), 1B
8- Kurt Suzuki (https://www.mlb.com/player/435559), C
9) Victor Robles (https://www.mlb.com/player/645302), CF

Astros:
Houston slashed .179/.281/.318 in the ALCS and did most of its damage with eight home runs, including a pair of walk-offs, so Hinch makes no wholesale changes in the World Series.
Houston:
1) George Springer (https://www.mlb.com/player/543807), CF
2) José Altuve (https://www.mlb.com/player/514888), 2B
3) Michael Brantley (https://www.mlb.com/player/488726), LF
4) Alex Bregman (https://www.mlb.com/player/608324), 3B
5) Yuli Gurriel (https://www.mlb.com/player/493329), 1B
6) Carlos Correa (https://www.mlb.com/player/621043), SS
7) Yordan Alvarez (https://www.mlb.com/player/670541), DH
8- Martín Maldonado (https://www.mlb.com/player/455117), C
9) Josh Reddick (https://www.mlb.com/player/502210), RF

Never happened before this week. My PC just froze up both the Caps livestream in one browser and the Nats in the other browser and took for goddamn ever to boot back up. Thank God I popped the tablet out real quick to watch the end of the Nats game.  This PC regularly runs for months at a time without turning it off and no issues. Had this issue a couple days ago and thought I removed the offending Microsoft updates.

God damned Microsoft put out a recent security update that says "This might cause some users to have black screens and system crashes". Forbes magazine even jokes about the ludicrousness of Microsoft suggesting it is due to invalid configurations or display driver issues. I am running 100% Microsoft Certified Drivers ONLY. Microsoft says you can try adding a patch for the patch and pray it works until they find a proper fix.

My question is, if they intend to fix it then it must be their problem. This system is my security camera server and has barely any software installed. It has been running for nearly ten years nonstop without issue.

This happened to me a couple days ago and I uninstalled the offending two patches and it worked again. Sometime this  evening Microsoft updated my system again and it crashed badly right at the end of the Caps game. This in spite of having DISABLED and stopped the Update Service. I have now restored it back a week or so and went through a very lengthy and challenging process to neuter the Microsoft Update Service. This is made almost impossible to do, but I can assure you it can be beat.

Every new version of Windows 10 makes it more difficult (almost impossible for average user) to disable Microsoft's ability to install whatever the fuck they want and reboot your computer whenever the fuck they choose. If you get fucked as a result they will accept ZERO responsibility.
 :raised-eyebrow:
FUCK MICROSOFT. Who the fuck releases patches with known SEVERE ISSUES? I am running the most prevalent Windows 10 version in use today. I am pissed off at Microsoft as I have been since about 1987.

System is running great again now and they can't fuck it up!

That bodes well I would say.

I'm impressed that even with shaky pitching today the Nats pulled it off. Winning game 1 is a huge deal. Puts some doubt in the Astros and the Nats now have a win in the opponents barn.

Soto!! Obviously Im not a big baseball fan, but I didn't realize the Nats were supposed to get swept..  From listening to Joe Buck and his sidekick you'd think they shouldn't of even played the game with Cole on the mound.. Like I said before the game....
confident we can win this.  ;)

IN all honesty, I thought the game was over in the 4th when Max was already at 90-some pitches.  We just have NO middle relief.  I was surprised to see Corbin, then surprised they removed him so quickly.
Rainey....typical Nats middle reliever....just NEVER know what you are going to get.  Bold moves to bring in Hudson early and let it ride.  Sure bet there would have been all kinds of hindsight coaching if it gone sour.

Soto....geez what can you say on this kid.

Guess that's why they go ahead and play the games...cause none of the experts (or us reglar folk) know what's going to happen.

Beating Cole in game 1 in their barn is pretty big.  Way to go Nats.

We need SuperStras to show tonight.

GO NATS!!

ahem...I am So Stoked for game 2 and confident we can win this!

starting lineups for game 2:
Nationals: In Game 1, Washington became the first team to score at least five earned runs and hand Gerrit Cole a loss since May 22, thanks to the efforts of Soto, who collected three hits, drove in three runs and stole a base. Look for manager Dave Martinez to roll out the same lineup vs. Verlander.
Here is Washington's projected lineup:
1) Trea Turner, SS
2) Adam Eaton, RF
3) Anthony Rendon, 3B
4) Juan Soto, LF
5) Howie Kendrick, DH
6) Asdrúbal Cabrera, 2B
7) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B
8- Kurt Suzuki, C
9) Victor Robles, CF

Astros: The only assured change in the lineup is Robinson Chirinos replacing Martin Maldonado at catcher with Verlander on the mound.
Here is Houston's projected lineup:
1) George Springer, CF
2) José Altuve, 2B
3) Michael Brantley, LF
4) Alex Bregman, 3B
5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B
6) Carlos Correa, SS
7) Yordan Alvarez, DH
8- Robinson Chirinos, C
9) Josh Reddick, RF

the ump isn't using the plate as the strike zone, it's where the catcher sets up

Post by: ArJunaZ on Wednesday October 23, 2019, 09:33:18 PM Eastern
Where did you hear that?  I played a lot of baseball and coached for three years. Over the plate and between knees and waist is the zone ever since I can remember. Did something radically change in recent years. Batter has no way of knowing where the catcher is.
I was a pitcher for a few years,as was my son.

I think the ump is just blind or biased. Same pitch from Verlander is called strike, opposite call for us.

True.  I noticed the plate ump is often still in the process of moving down into position as the pitcher is throwing. Must be affecting his ability to judge the zone. Sometimes the ball is over the plate as or before he sets.

Good lord that was a marathon.. And yea, the ump's strike zone seemed kind of erratic. I like how whenever it was on the line (in their virtual box) they cut to that simulated 3d view from behind the plate to show you it was the right call (like they do in tennis) but when it was clearly outside the box they didn't bother. Lets see it all FOX, the good and the bad!!  :raspberry:  Boys look like they're having fun. Hope they can finishthefight!!  :uh-huh:

Wow.  I mean WOW.

Way to go Nats...except for the marathon part.  I started watching on delay about 10 and almost caught up when my DVR quit recording at 4 hours.  Missed the last of the 9th.

WOW

I am sure I mentioned earlier, prior to the start of the series, how comfortable and confident I was about the Nats winning this.

Go Nats.

By the way....here's a pic of my wife's (ahem....they are in MY lap) new buddies....MAX and SOTO.  Fresh in from the shelter about three days ago
Max is the black one, Soto is the white one

Game 3 starting lineups:
Astros: With no designated-hitter spot available for the three games in D.C., Hinch is debating whether to start DH Yordan Alvarez in the outfield. If he sits Alvarez, Hinch will go with his regular outfield and look to use Alvarez in a key pinch-hitting spot.
1) George Springer, CF

2) José Altuve, 2B

3) Michael Brantley, LF

4) Alex Bregman, 3B

5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B

6) Carlos Correa, SS

7) Josh Reddick, RF
8- Robinson Chirinos, C

9) Zack Greinke, P

Nationals: This Nats' offense erupted for 12 runs on 14 hits and three homers to carry themselves to victory in Game 2. Aside from losing the designated hitter, don’t expect anything to change after a performance like that.
1) Trea Turner, SS

2) Adam Eaton, RF

3) Anthony Rendon, 3B

4) Juan Soto, LF

5) Asdrúbal Cabrera, 2B

6) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B

7) Kurt Suzuki, C

8- Victor Robles, CF

9) Aníbal Sánchez, P

starting pitchers:
Astros: After losing games started by aces Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander, the Astros will give the ball to veteran right-hander Greinke (0-2, 6.43 ERA in the postseason). Greinke pitched well in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, against the Yankees, and gave up one run in 4 1/3 innings in Game 4. He faced the Nationals earlier this season, throwing 7 1/3 scoreless innings and allowing two hits at Nationals Park on June 13, when he was with the D-backs.
Nationals: The Nationals are hopeful that the long layoff will not effect Sánchez (1-0, 0.71 ERA in the postseason), because he has been lights out this month. In two starts (12 2/3 innings), he’s given up just one run on five hits, with 14 strikeouts and three walks, but this will be his first start since Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, on Oct.11.

So is anyone here actually GOING to the Nats game?  It is sort of kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity.  (well, we hope not, but.....)
How much are tickets going for?

I see you can still supposedly get tickets for tonight's game
Upper level 401 about $1250 a seat (ouch)
Seats behind Nats Dugout around $1700 (again ouch)

I have a friend who broke down and spent the bucks and went to both games in the NLCS here.  I'd say he got his money's worth.

I read a story about the ticket system being hacked and tickets stolen, which were quickly disabled and were not sold. It said the prices started at $1,000 for "standing room only" seats and went up to $3,000 for seat behind the dugout.

Game 4:

starting lineups:
Astros: The only big question was whether Hinch chose to put designated hitter Yordan Alvarez in the lineup in left field, which was unlikely considering Houston is facing a lefty. It’s likely Alvarez will start Game 5 on Sunday night. Other than that, Jake Marisnick got the start over Josh Reddick while facing a lefty.
1) George Springer, RF

2) José Altuve, 2B

3) Michael Brantley, LF

4) Alex Bregman, 3B

5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B

6) Carlos Correa, SS

7) Robinson Chirinos, C

8- Jake Marisnick, CF

9) Jose Urquidy, P

Nationals:
After cashing in with runners in scoring position at seemingly every chance during the first two games, the Nats’ bats went cold in Game 3, going 0-for-10 with RISP while stranding 12 runners on base. They are hoping for better fortune in Game 4.
1) Trea Turner, SS

2) Adam Eaton, RF

3) Anthony Rendon, 3B

4) Juan Soto, LF

5) Howie Kendrick, 2B

6) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B

7) Victor Robles, CF

8- Yan Gomes, C

9) Patrick Corbin, P

starting pitchers:
Astros:
Urquidy (0-0, 2.08 ERA in the playoffs) will make his first career playoff start to kick off Houston’s bullpen game. Urquidy, who started seven games in the regular season, worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Rays and 2 2/3 innings of one-run ball in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series against the Yankees.
Nationals:
Corbin (1-2, 6.91 ERA) signed with the Nats in the offseason with games like this in mind, looking to help his team take a commanding lead in the World Series. Corbin has spent more time pitching in relief than as a starter this month, but in the three days after a scoreless 21-pitch sixth inning in Game 1, he has been able to get back to his normal routine.

Game 5 starting lineups:
Astros: Hinch started designated hitter Yordan Alvarez in left field for Game 5, keeping Josh Reddick on the bench for the second game in a row, with Michael Brantley sliding to right field and George Springer to center. Martín Maldonado will catch Cole despite Robinson Chirinos hitting homers in consecutive games.
1) George Springer, CF

2) José Altuve, 2B

3) Michael Brantley, RF

4) Alex Bregman, 3B

5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B

6) Yordan Alvarez, LF

7) Carlos Correa, SS

8- Martín Maldonado, C

9) Gerrit Cole, P

Nationals: The offense has gone quiet the past two games, a product of being unable to cash in their chances with runners in scoring position. They have been held to one run in back-to-back games, just the second time all season they’ve been held to one run or fewer in consecutive games (Sept. 13-14).
1) Trea Turner, SS

2) Adam Eaton, RF

3) Anthony Rendon, 3B

4) Juan Soto, LF

5) Howie Kendrick, 2B

6) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B

7) Victor Robles, CF

8- Yan Gomes, C

9) Joe Ross, P

starting pitchers:

Astros: Cole (3-1, 1.82 ERA in the postseason) lost for the first time in five months when the Nationals beat him in Game 1, but he is 19-1 with a 1.79 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP with 264 strikeouts in 176 1/3 innings over his past 26 starts in the regular season and postseason.

Nationals: Ross entered in relief in the seventh inning of Game 3, and he delivered two blank frames after starter Aníbal Sánchez's four-run, 5 1/3-frame start.

There’s little to no doubt the “precaution” of not throwing Max out there is to wait for a clinching game (for or against), had he gone last night, best case is we’d be up 3-2 and they’d have two away games without the best pitcher

Game 6 starting lineups:

Nationals:
This lineup has been held to one run in three consecutive games for the first time all season. The last time the Nats scored no more than one run in three straight home games was Aug. 6-9, 2016. With the designated hitter back in Houston, Asdrúbal Cabrera returns at second base and Howie Kendrick shifts to the DH spot. Kurt Suzuki remains out of the starting lineup with a right hip injury.
1) Trea Turner, SS

2) Adam Eaton, RF

3) Anthony Rendon, 3B

4) Juan Soto, LF

5) Howie Kendrick, DH

6) Asdrúbal Cabrera, 2B

7) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B

8- Victor Robles, CF

9) Yan Gomes, C

Astros:
Back at Minute Maid Park, Yordan Alvarez returns to the lineup at designated hitter on the heels of his 3-for-3 performance in Game 5, which included a two-run homer. Josh Reddick also is back for the first time since Game 3, as well as Robinson Chirinos, who homered in Games 3 and 4 in Washington.
1) George Springer, CF

2) José Altuve, 2B

3) Michael Brantley, LF

4) Alex Bregman, 3B

5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B

6) Yordan Alvarez, DH

7) Carlos Correa, SS

8- Robinson Chirinos, C

9) Josh Reddick, RF

Starting pitchers:
Nationals:
With their season on the line, the Nationals turn to Strasburg (4-0, 1.93 ERA in the postseason). The right-hander, with a 1.34 career postseason ERA, has been one of the most dominant playoff pitchers in MLB history. His first start of the Series came during Game 2 in Houston, where he gutted out six innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts.
Astros:
Verlander (1-3, 4.15 ERA in the postseason) will be making the 483rd start of his career, including the regular season and playoffs, but this will be his biggest. He’ll have a chance to send the Astros to their second World Series title in three seasons. He’s allowed four earned runs in three of his past four playoff starts, but the Astros’ confidence will be soaring with the 36-year-old getting the ball. Verlander is 0-5 with a 5.73 ERA in six career World Series.

and, after getting a cortisone shot in his neck on Sunday Max says he's ready for game 7...

what a fukin bullshit call, wtf is turner supposed to do..

If Turner tries to avoid the tag, which was in the way of his right to the base, he'd get called out for leaving the base path. I'd love to see 1: the Nationals bitch about the call in the post game, and 2: an explanation from MLB on wtf Turner was supposed to do?

Davey gets ejected during the commercial break, expressing everyone's frustration with the horrible umpiring of this series

So weird that we witnessed a supremely bad call in both Caps and Nats game. Two of the most bizarre calls I've seen in either sport.

They reviewed and reversed an unreviewable call.  As weird as the Tom Wilson double minor for a non-penalty which drew no blood. Actually, weirder!

Amen to that brother

That would have been disastrous for MLB PR

It’s a bad rule. It’s unfortunate because of the circumstances. Turner was running as he was supposed to. It was a bad throw that led into the runner but doubt they had him anyway.  It would be different if runner had made any type of move or path into the throw.

Good news is it’s a moot point. Glad for the Rendon dinger mostly cause it saved me three VERY LONG stressful innings to come.

And Soto is incredible

Stras has been awesome. Kind of wish they let him complete the game. I was not surprised to see him in the 8th cause of the pitch count and then he threw like a six pitch 8th. I was surprised to see him in the ninth. Figure it was more about match ups than anything else.

Wow. Great game Nats

One more baby. Hope we get to see the very best of Max tomorrow

Game 7 starting lineups:
Nationals:
After being held to one run in three consecutive games at home, the Nats found their offense in Game 6, scoring in the first inning and hammering three home runs against the Astros. Catcher Kurt Suzuki (hip) should be ready to return to the lineup as well.- apparently Suzuki still doesn’t feel good
1) Trea Turner, SS

2) Adam Eaton, RF

3) Anthony Rendon, 3B

4) Juan Soto, LF
5) Howie Kendrick, DH

6) Asdrúbal Cabrera, 2B

7) Ryan Zimmerman, 1B

8- Kurt Suzuki Yan Gomes C
9) Victor Robles, CF

Astros:
Expect Houston to stick with the same lineup it had in Game 6.
1) George Springer, CF

2) José Altuve, 2B

3) Michael Brantley, LF

4) Alex Bregman, 3B

5) Yuli Gurriel, 1B

6) Yordan Alvarez, DH

7) Carlos Correa, SS

8- Robinson Chirinos, C

9) Josh Reddick, RF

The starting pitchers:
Nationals:
Just a few days after he woke up barely able to lift his arm, Scherzer (3-0, 2.16 ERA in postseason) will take the ball in a decisive Game 7. Scherzer was scratched from his most recent start in Sunday’s Game 5 with a muscle spasm in his neck and right trapezius muscle, but he felt much better after a cortisone shot Sunday.

Astros:
Greinke (0-2, 5.30 ERA) will make his 16th career postseason start and second in the World Series after allowing one run and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings in Houston’s Game 3 win at Washington on Friday. Greinke has pitched in two winner-take-all games in the playoffs in his career: Game 5 of the 2015 National League Division Series and the 2017 NL Wild Card Game. He’s 0-1 with seven earned runs and 12 hits allowed in 10 1/3 innings in those games.

This is the first time two Cy Young winners have faced each other in a World Series game 7.

THIS IS YOUR MOMENT!! You’re not dreaming! THE NATS ARE THE 2019 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!

I haven’t watched MLB for years,  but I started watching the Nats, 2019 playoff run, when it started!!
I must admit it was quite exciting!!  I really enjoyed it !!

Scherz, Stras, Corbin, and Doo were awesome!!!
NATS bats never gave up either, and PREVAILED!!

Very similar to the Capitals Stanley Cup win, in the way they found the spark from deep down within themselves!
Especially in coming back after how it was feeling this last Sunday evening when they lost three home games in a row!  There was only ONE PROBLEM, though.......

WOW.  Just WOW.  Way to go Nats.

Great series, great run, great season, great team.

Really impressed by the digging deep this team went through this year.  Lots of stars on this team, but what made it really special was how the whole team came together, and all the guys who had key moments in key games.  We always knew we had Stras and Sherzer and now Corbin and Rendon, etc, but guys like Kendrick and Cabrera and Zimm and even Suzuki having some really big moments was just awesome.  Total team win if there ever was one and the team really did seem to pull together as a team.  They really seem to enjoy each other.  I know it's easier when you're winning, but when was the last time you actually saw third string bench guys hugging on your starting pitcher.  I really like this team and the character they have.  Over the last decade(s), I have become NOT a big baseball fan, but this season/playoff run with this team was a treat to watch and actually fun again.  Not just because my team won, but because I genuinely think this is a T E A M.  Don't see that so much anymore.  I was just so happy for them, and enjoyed their struggle and success.  Absolutely no quit in this team and lots of character guys, and that showed.

I do think Stras should be the MVP.  I thought that if we did not get STELLAR performance from our starting pitching we were sunk.  Game 6, down 3 games to 2, in the away stadium is about as clutch as you can get and Stras was great.  5-0 pitching record against the best teams in baseball in the playoffs...pretty damn good.

Congrats to you Nats.  Thank you for a wonderful baseball experience.  You guys were just fun to watch and a pleasure to have win.

Wow, just Wow

Amen, and Amen.

Although, I suspect Rendon gets paid elsewhere.  I hope not, but that's my suspicion - hopefully the two sides have just been waiting for the offseason, but all along this year they both have been kind of standoffish about it.

What was that craziness the talking heads were spewing about Strasburg opting out of the last four years of contract for $100 mil or something?  I saw them bring it up at/toward the end last night, but didn't know what the heck they were talking about or get the details.

Why would either party want to opt out of the contract?  Like Stras could opt out and maybe get paid more elsewhere?  Hoping this year's TEAM success will dictate that not transpiring.

So you want to hear the deal of the century?

Jaun Soto made $578,300 this year and the team (NATS) control his salary the next two seasons.  (The league minimum is $555,000)

Thinking....someone might have to negotiate a new deal in the coming years.

Title: Re: The World Series Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros
Post by: alta on Thursday October 31, 2019, 04:15:52 PM Eastern
Soto signed a rookie contract, the money he is making is normal for someone in the league for their first 3-4 years. Stras's contract has an opt out clause for him that came to term at the end of this season, he has three days to do so, I highly suspect he won't. Rendon has said in the past he doesn't do contract talks during the season, so I'm not too concerned about that part. My concern is he has the same asshole agent that Harper has. But Rendon seems to be a bit more realistic about life than Harp.

If Stras stays in DC he will be making the same money as Harp
Title: Re: The World Series Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros
Post by: richkrt99 on Thursday October 31, 2019, 06:12:19 PM Eastern
Yeah, I never heard the opt out stuff about Stras until the other night, and just thought it an odd time to bring it up.  To me, the team really seems like it gelled as a team and the parts worked together really well, so with the money he is making (and I honestly had not realized it was as much as it is) I can't realistically foresee Strasburg leaving the Nats in the near future (unless he really wants to go back to the west coast or for family reasons and whatnot).  He did comment that he loves this team and he would do ANYTHING for these guys, so if that is at least partly genuine, I really don't expect anything to come of that silly talk.

Rendon though....I just don't know.  I mean he really never talks so that doesn't bother me, but if left to his agent, I sometimes wonder if MONEY MONEY MONEY is all the agent (especially this one) is concerned with.
I mean the money is great, but at $200 mil or $300 mil, whats the freakin difference? (yeah, yeah, 100M)  But if you are Rendon, you KNOW you are making bank anywhere, but your happiness and career success has to be worth something.  I mean...do you think Harper is "happy" in fucking Filthy?

The grass aint ALWAYS greener.  I mean, you got to go for what you can go for, but at the figures we are talking about....I think you don't have to worry about making a living, so why not enjoy it.

My concern is Rendon just would rather be elsewhere (like Houston).  I just hope the bonding and success that came with this years team leads to some hard thinking on his part.

The good news is the Nats got plenty of cap space so there is no real concern there.  They certainly are going to have to spend some money on some quality relief pitching, but I would love to see them land Rendon

WAY TO GO NATS!

Title: Re: The World Series Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros
Post by: richkrt99 on Thursday October 31, 2019, 06:17:21 PM Eastern
I can't freaking believe the Nats won the series.  I just didn't think we had the middle relief to survive and overcome a good team.  We certainly had to rely on stellar starters, and I guess anytime we went to middle relief we did suffer the consequences.  Using Corbin in game 7 was cool (and why the hell not), but the fact that the Nats had to burn Stras in relief at one point, and considered Max, and then went to Corbin....SHOULD be telling management there is a key element missing.

Anyway, WAY TO GO NATS

I love what this team did this year...really did pull it together and struggled through.  What a great success.  Happy for all these guys.

to be fair, if the Skins had an owner that didn’t have his head up his rectal cavity, the team might win a few games. I’m guessing the bullets need the same but don’t know, I haven’t watched pro basketball since Magic vs Byrd

Yeah, it's sad - I used to be a pretty big Skins fan, but now I honestly don't care.  I don't have the time to watch, but I really don't miss it.  I am glad, as I don't agree with most of what the NFL does ore represents these days, so it's nice not to give them any of my viewership or support.  I was NEVER a NBA fan, and never really watched, so I'm not really missing anything there.  The Skins though, what a train wreck.  I agree, Snyder has slowly and systematically (and I believe unintentionally) poisoned the culture of the entire franchise.

Still hanging on to my Caps fandom and really enjoyed supporting this Nats team this year.  I like that they (at least appeared) to be a team of guys working for each other toward the ultimate goal.

and WTF....Strasburg opted OUT of his last 4 years of his contract?  I guess WS MVP means he's due for a pay raise.  Either that or he really wants to go home.  I am a little...taken aback by this.  Stras was due to make $100m the next four years.  What's he looking for?  $150m the next four?

The top ten paid pitchers (currently under contract), annual salary & bonus:
Scherzer $35m
Greinke $35m
Verlander $33m
Price $32m
Kershaw $31m
Sale $30m
deGrom $25.5m
Zimmerman $25m
Tanaka $23m
Darvish $22m

Stras was already in the top 7....I don't blame him for wanting to be in the top 5 but HELL MAN, what about the team?  I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but when he said after the WS "he would do anything for this team of guys" I guess that "anything" didn't include playing with them the next four years for a measly $100 mil.

I'm sure his agent is just doing the best for his client by opting out of the contract option, knowing he can get more than $100m for the next for years.  I guess at age 31 also, he might be looking for a 6-7 year deal rather than just 4.
Prior to this season, I'd say Stras was well paid and deserved to be in the top 10 "discussion", but one could argue otherwise with his history.  I certainly would say he was one of the top 5 guys all year this year and definitely the number 1 guy in the playoff run and World Series.

I am also sure there are other free agent pitchers out there who will drive these current top salary numbers up  (Gerrit Cole made $13m last season and is only 29 years old - that dude is about to get paid somewhere)

Anyway, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am a little.

I was so worried about the Nats trying to sign Rendon, I hadn't even thought about Stras opting out. (not that I really know about it until someone brought it up)
Now the Nats NEED to sign Rendon and Stras.  I hope the Lerners open up those purse strings and do right by these guys.  I am not confident we will re-sign Rendon.  I hope Stras wants to stay and gives a bit of a home town discount to stay with this team.

GO NATS!
