Rask actually had a good game vs the Caps for a change
He made several big time stops
He made some huge saves.
Bad thing about this game was that we out shot and out chanced the Bruins. Rask was the difference. We had 4 breakaways and never scored on one of them.
We had a ton of grade A chances and couldn't bury them.
And it seemed like every mistake we made ended up in the back of our net.

You gotta watch some Bruins highlights from the 70s. That was a crazy bunch. I'll never forget when a bunch of Bruins players climbed into the stands at Madison Square gardens and we're fighting the fans. Brad Milbury pulled a guys shoe off and beat him with. That was when hockey was fun.

If you remember, Holtby was not so great his first year or so with us. It as only when we got the "Goalie Whisperer" on board that he started to blossom. These two yunguns may take a little longer.

It isn't working. Players have no awareness of their surroundings and they put themselves in vulnerable positions all the time. Whether it's turning your back towards an on coming head or skating through the middle of the ice with their head down. Players have to start taking some responsibility for their own safety.

That whole incident was a joke. There was no hit. Kuraly was falling before Wilson even got there. It was literally a nothing play but the Bruins made something out of it which was why they got the penalty.

We were pretty bad defenaively. The Carlson Orlov pair sucked and both of our top 2 lines were pretty bad.
We were decent offensively. We had a lot of high danger chances.

I think there will be some fallout from this game. The league doesn't seem to want games to be this physical anymore, so I think there will be repercussions, warranted or not.
The Hathaway debacle is one, but also the alleged Willy incident, which was total bullshit.
A slo mo camera angle clearly showed daylight between Willy and the guy that had fallen. Willy never touched him.
The refs were appalling... again. Nothing new there.

Unfortunately the Norris is more about offense than defence. There have been plenty of unworthy winners of the trophy. Even when Langway won it in back to back seasons was he the best all around defenseman. I don't believe he was. Even though he was a beast in the defensive zone.
Over the years several great defencemen never won the award but probably should have. Guys that come to mind are Scott Stevens, Mark Howe and Brad Park. Maybe even Shea Weber should have won one.
We had a stretch where Lidstrom pretty much won every year and he deserved it. He was the best 2 way dman in the NHL for a long time.
I think the NHL has a player like that in today's game. That guy would be Victor Hedman. He is the best 2 way defenseman by a pretty good margin. I know he has won a Norris but I think he should have atleast 3 including last season. I don't think Josi should have won it. And I think Hedman has to be one of the favorites again this year. He would be my vote.
But as long they continue to give the trophy to offensive defencemen Carlson will remain a Norris candidate. He will likely be top 5 in votes.
I for one don't think he will win the Norris this year or any year. I feel last season was his best chance. If he couldn't win it after that season I don't think he ever will.
He has a great shot, he is a very good passer, he can join the rush. He plays on the PP and pk. He is a very good player. But he is too inconsistent in the defensive zone and his decision making.
He fits in well on this team. Alot has to do with the talent around him. That was alot of the criticism on Carlson. His numbers are inflated because of the players he plays with. And I would agree with that.
Just curious who didn't know those guys won the Norris.

Actually I think most here are fairly educated in hockey. I haven't seen too many outrageous posts. Maybe members here are a bit bias. They think the refs and the league are against us. But that's the norm. You go to any message board for another team and it's the same thing.
I try to not be bias but it's hard. Like every time Wilson gets a suspension I try find some reason to think that the league is against Wilson.
Bottom line is that the members here know more about the game than you give them credit for.

We will always be part of the Commonwealth but we are completely independent now as of 1982. Before that when Britain declared war that meant Canada declared war. That isn't the case now. Britain has no hold on us at all.
There are alot of commonwealth countries. Alot are probably in similar situations.
The US could have been one of those countries too except for the American Revolution.
You got your independence more than 200 years before us. Maybe we should have done that. I think we would have gotten our asses kicked.

Nova Scotia at a minimum, and possibly New Brunswick were supposed to be part of it. They backed out at the last minute, or had too many of the kings troops there to do so.
But still, when a country officially calls itself a constitutional monarchy but has no monarch. That tells me they aren't %100 independent of the crown. I'm not trying to start anything over this, just pointing out why I don't see the fully independent part.

yes, but as I have said multiple times, the bigger issue is and has been the contract. I have never seen him earn it. Good on him for getting it.

I myself try to like Carlson. Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. Depends on which Carlson shows up. He has the potential to be top 2 or 3 in the league if he put in the effort.
We have a similar problem with Kuzy. All world skills. All world flake.

But.. as we saw when the Caps benched Schmitty to bring in Shattenkirk, which was a big mistake. Shattenkirk took over QB on PP1 without a hiccup. QB on PP1 is Carlsons prime contribution. Without that he doesn't have the goals/points he's had, which is what made some people think he is a Norris candidate

The other 20 at even strength. So 27 of his 42 points are at even strength. It doesn't look like the PP is inflating his numbers.

I think that's the right call in this incident.
I didn't think the hit was that bad. Maybe warrant 2 minutes, because the guy turned his back at the last minute and Hathy definitely let up on the hit. Unfortunate fall and face plant but it happens. I don't think it was a blatant boarding hit. It's not like Hathy took a run at him and crossed checked him from behind and planted the dude head 1st into the boards.
AND the referee standing right there directly looking at the play did NOT call a penalty. He was watching the play. He had a perfect view of the play. The call was made by a back line referee who was well away from the play and did not have the angle of view the primary referee had.
I'm curious - Other than the bloody nose was the player injured? Did he play the next game?

Cause it's clear, that most here don't have much. Just know how to run a computer and like trashing the caps instead of embracing them. The ones that bitch about players more consistently are the ones with little to no knowledge of what the fuck is actually going on around the league.
