1.  Wilson is the, (my), clear cut winner.  He has emerged as one of, maybe the most dominant player in The NHL: 200ft player, all special teams, crushing physically, energy, intimidation, and still averages .6 PPG.

Weakness:  The bullshit suspension for being too good cost him 29 games.  Also lack of depth on this roster makes it near essential for Wilson to be available/on the ice at all times.  Between this and the “villian” narrative of Woman’s Rules Hockey and it supporters, holds Willie back for reigning total hell on a league that’s bought in Woman’s Rule Eurotrash.

Like or not, Wilson is a throwback from when the game was played by real men, which is why he’s among the best, and most hated. players in The NHL

2- Backstrom.  He cemented himself amping the elite (200ft) centers in the league.  He sacrificed a large amount of stats by being moved from Ovies line and becoming a regular on the PK. and played at a Selke level against other teams lines.  All while still ranking second on the team in points.

Weakness:  while he can be fickle, and can use more aggression, and intensity, a Nick Backstrom on a bad day is still better then any center on The Caps and most in the NHL

I'd go Wilson.. Ovie is Ovie, Oshie is Oshie, Nicky is Nicky.. Wilson is the actual heart and soul, imo.. He brings it 100% of the time and even when he's not "producing", he finds other ways to make an impact, on the most consistent level, imo.

Caps should introduce a "200 footer" patch and let guys "earn" it for their jersey (or locker or where ever the league allows such a "patch" to be displayed) See if they could motivate a few of the younger guys to buy in to the theory? Just a thought.. (Or they could hire a coach that "demands" it.. Yea, keep dreamin' Mick)  :snicker:

I expect Willy and Vrana to be 30 goal scorers next year

Ovechkin from the standpoint of he still scores a ton, can bring a physical intimidation factor, and is our leader. The guy sometimes can single handed win a game for us through pure offensive output. That said, his play in other areas of the ice leave a lot to be desired. He has too much glide to his game. But having the best goal scorer in the history of the NHL on your team is definitely a luxury.

Wilson from the standpoint of a guy who mixes some offensive talent with physical, hard-hat work ethic. He has transitioned very nicely from 4th line punching machine to 1st line punching (and scoring) machine. He's a big reason why our top lines have some more stability rather than the revolving door we've seen in the past. Wilson hits hard, rents space in the heads of the opposition, fights when needed, scores occasionally, and just fucking battles. He undoubted deserves the C or at very least the A after Ovechkin is gone. We've been blessed to have plenty of exotic European supercars on our roster but sometimes you just need a little bit of some good old American (well, Canadian) muscle.

Don't consider Canadian and American muscle the same cause it's not.

I think the MVP has to go to Alex this year for the Caps.  I love Tom Wilson and think the future of this franchise rests squarely on his shoulders, but based on this season's performance Alex is it.  Alex was the leader of this team this year.  His game definitely has weaknesses and some glide, but he has improved his game overall and he does still drive this team and he is the most prolific goal scorer for his entire career....still.

I'm curious as to what most other teams' think about the Caps....would they rather face the Caps with Ovie out or Willy out of the lineup?  Which guy would you rather not have to face to win one game?....and which guy to win a 7 game playoff series?

Ovie beats you on the scoreboard and can still make you look bad with his skills and is hard to stop from scoring even when you know he's there and what he is capable of.  He still just scores.  Willy beats you physically and definitely changes the mental attitude of the game.  You HAVE to be aware when he is on the ice.  Willy has some speed and skills also, but it's his physical presence that dominates the other squad.  When Willy's on the ice I don't think the other team is "skeered" cause Willy is going to score on them, they be skeered cause he is going to dominate them and flat run them over (and then maybe score on them)

I think you underestimate Willy's offense

Not really.  Or that was not the intent of my post, and in no way a knock on Willy's skills. I think Willy will be the heart and soul and the driving force behind this team moving forward, but all things considered this season, I give the nod to OVIE based on his performance this year

Willy missed a good chunk at the beginning and that has to be considered. He certainly had a good year despite that and is well worth the contract he got (rare on this team), but I feel OVIE was more valuable to this team this season. Willy is definitely my second place pick and hope/expect him to be this teams MVP repeatedly in the near future.

I have had zero interest in award shows of any kind for about 15 years, which is why I missed this.....
