ORlov and Hathaway held out due to trade consideration tonight
-
Don't know why Eller is still playing?

My opinion was to keep him as a spare center for the playoffs. Since that ship appears to have sailed, good question.
and, Hathy and Orlov are the last two I’d trade right now. But management doesn’t have the balls to dump the contract that needs to go.

I think they believe that Orlov won't sign here so they are trying to get something at least.
-
Traded to Boston for pics/players and ???? RMNB
-
Oh well, Adios fellas! Probably 2 of the least "problems" this team has, but I guess getting rid of anything is better then nothing.
-
Until were rid of 3 of: 20, 39, 74, 77, 92 we're just clearing cap space to continue the suck. (And 77 probably needs to be 1 of the 3) Team is just WAY too slow with him, Nicky, Ovi and Wilson/Brown both coming off ACL's.
-
Morning chaps

PP GOOOAAALLLL
OSHIE

Gonna miss Halfway. I loved his grit.

Agree, but Mantha getting hurt fucked the whole thing. Not to mention Johnny Q. Dylan (although I believe the Caps would never trade him)
Mantha I believe they were shopping, but you can't trade a guy on IR. (or at least I like to hope to believe they were shopping him)
Plus his salary is a tough pill to swallow. Orlov as a rental to Boston I get from both sides. The Caps were going to lose him most likely so why not get a pick for him. Hathy? Love to keep the guy, but does he really make a difference to the success of this team? I mean....what we need most right now is GOALS. There are lots of guys out there to fill Hathy's shoes.
(actually what we need MOST right now is to dump some dead weight and heavy contracts!!!!)
With Orlov and Hathy gone though...we sure did get softer. The way this league is going though...will it matter?

You're gonna catch up here in a sec, unfortunately. :snicker:
-
Bizzarre.
-
Good scrap by Willy.
Funny that the worst team in the league is playing us even. lol The levels of bad this team is, is puzzling.
-
this team is notorious for playing down to the opponent, it’s nothing new
-
McIlrath just became a fan favorite
-
Nice job big boy!!
-
Open the 3rd with a PP. Need an Ovi goal and it'll be a win tonight, regardless. Team is past it's due date.
-
Fever was interviewed during the 2nd intermission, his pupils where awfully big

Pfft.
I mean, once it's officially tank time, I guess we start rooting for losses? I think as soon as we fall 5 points behind, that'll be the time for me.
-
I don’t believe tanking ever worked in this sport.
-
Ducks gonna sit back and dump the puck for 17 minutes. And it's gonna work!

I mean, a better draft pick is a better draft pick. It's too late for anyone "good". But whats the alternative? Root for them to be the 1st out of the playoffs? As I've stated, this team has expired. Next season we can "hope" for a while, again.
-
point is, hockey is the least likely sport for a #1 draft pick to have an immediate impact, and, I’d extend that to any draft pick. The vast majority need at least a couple years in the AHL to mature their skills
-
of course, Ducks get an empty netter

Caps hockey! :)

Im done.
Nighty night chaps.

Caps play Saturday and Sunday at 1pm
can’t wait ::)

Well, in the early 2000's the Penguins were so bad they got either the first or second pick in 4 consecutive drafts. They drafted Fleury, Crosby, Malkin (a hell of a #2 choice behind Ovie) and became a powerhouse for the next 15 years.
The consensus #1 pick in this year's draft is Bedard, supposedly the best prospect since McDavid. And don't forget, there is a draft lottery now.
-
Well that sucked
I expected a win tonight
Team is downright shit show right now
Trade the rest of them

You can't trade the rest of them unless (1) they aren't on the injured list; and (2) they fill a need of a playoff or playoff-contending team that has a hole that a particular player or players of yours can fill. I don't know the league well enough to know if we have any other such players that we would be interested in trading.
One player we could probably trade tomorrow for a healthy return would be Wilson. Anybody interested in doing that? Maybe Gustaffson would fetch a mid-round draft pick. Our few young players might fetch something, but I'm presuming the team wants to keep the few young players we have with any promise. The rest? It would have to be exactly the right situation for anything to happen.
-
I think they could find spots for Kuzy, Oshie and Carlson (when healthy) All 3 could be PP sparks/assets. Price tags probably way too high though. Didn't there used to be something about a "cap floor" or something? Is that still a thing? Teams sign expensive vets to mentor younger players and in the process the team meets some salary requirement? (maybe my brain is mush and I just dreamed that up. Anything's possible these days.) :raspberry:
