To be honest, the Caps don't have 7 games in em' w/o a break. They're just too old. Had em' on the ropes tonight and couldn't finish. Our chances of a series win took a big shit tonight. :-\

That hurts. Had the game in hand and could not finish. Lucky bounce to tie it, but that's what happens when your team can't clear the puck....or win a critical faceoff.
Sucks because we had the game and like Mick said....don't thing we can truly hang with them for full 7 games. Florida is just better offensively and we have for the most part outworked them. I don't think we can afford to do that and not win, and don't think can outwork them a full 60 minutes a game x 3 more games
And there's the Sammy factor....just never know when he's gonna have a mystery moment. Got to win the ones he's actually playing well.
As much as I love playoff hockey - I hate OT with the Caps - so nerve racking. I'd much rather end it in the 3rd with an ENG
and what the fuck is with the constant penalties? Thought these dudes were supposed to swallow the whistle in the playoffs. 13 penalties is a lot for any game, much less a playoff game.

The one hope to steal the series was by winning last night. While it was always going to be tough without Wilson, we were 2 minutes away from taking command. If Johansson could have scored on that break away OR if Hathaway could hit the empty net OR if Sammy doesn't let in the first soft goal, we win the game. Having said that, you can't get outshot 2-1 and spend much of the game in your own end and expect good things to happen. I'm thinking we go out in 6 now.
Regardless of what happens, this team needs to get younger, faster and bigger on the back end if they plan to be making any cup runs in the future.

I feel bad for Hathaway. I think he normally would have chipped it out, but he was in the center of the ice so he went for it. I don't blame him, but when you watch the replay, he had a lot of room that he could have skated out of the zone and then still shot it.
The guy that is it the mystery player for me has been Mantha. I really want to like him, but there are a lot of times that he just glides around and then tries to make a high skill level play like Kuzy is capable of. I would rather see him with more effort and cut out the cute stuff.

Pretty much 100% my thoughts as well. Yesterday was our chance to actually steal it.
I don't see them getting younger or faster or bigger in the offseason though. The roster is 95% set for next year unless they are willing to make a major change and I don't see that happening.
Mojo and Larsson are the only two forwards without a contract, both are UFA. I could see them bringing Mojo back if they could get him cheap, but that's not younger or faster.
Shulz and Kempney are UFA on the back end. Kempney is done in the NHL as far as I am concerned and Shultz....has been better than I expected, but I would hope you could do better for $4m per.
Both Goalies are RFA's, but I think we all know there is a glaring hole there. I don't know where they are going to find money for a real GT.
All of this is premature though....we still have the entire rest of the playoffs before we start fantasizing about next year's moves that won't happen :)
