Meh.... Does nothing to address current issues.

Clearly adds speed, PK skills and playoff experience.  But if this is the only deal we do, and we don't do any other deals because of this one, than I would have rather passed.  Defense still needs addressing.   Maybe GMBM is going to try to address the defense with a Bura trade.

I can only think of a handful of players who's character would be detrimental to the Capitals team, Hagelin is near the top of the list. I have never liked the guy.  I hope he can get along with the team.

I don't mind this given what we gave up.  The PK definitely needs help.  He's better than any of our 4th line guys now and plays with some grit.
BUT overall... this doesn't address the defensive woes.

What is it that you have seen that makes you think he has such a detrimental attitude?

Completely useless and stupid move.  We need help on DEFENSE, not to add another forward and a midget at that.  Just dumb as a box of rocks.

I like it.  Speed helps and he has been good in the playoffs.  Didn't give up a ton and let DSP go - so I think it is a significant upgrade.  Yes, DSP scored a few key goals for us last year, but he came in way out of shape this year and has been slow with hands of stone all year.

Since we didn't give up much, I don't think this takes the place of a move to bolster the defense.

I agree, if it would be the only one deal I will regret it however with our GMBM it’s better than nothing.

Alan May's excited, so..   Wouldn't hold my breath on a defenseman. They'd have to move Burt for decent cap space and Burt's showing that once a year push that gets management all hot and bothered.. They won't trade him on a high note.

DSP cleared waivers, whatever that's going to mean. This is a good improvement for the cost, as long as he fits in well. That's why I hate rentals. It will be interesting to see where he goes in the line up. At least Hagelin didn't come directly from the Hens, so maybe some of that stink has washed off.

 :snicker:

This team still desperately needs help on D, 4 days left to fix it

Hagelin always struck me as an a-hole.  Partly due to his brash attitude on the ice, but he also strikes me as not a very nice guy just watching him in interviews and a few small moments watching him interact with others who were not opponents. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel he may not be a good match for the character of the Capitals.  He also brings the stink of Rags and Hens with him. That's a pretty big stink.

He's arrogant and cocky?  Maybe we need someone like this, balance.

This does not address our biggest need on defense, but it comes at a pretty low cost. Only draft picks and salary was retained. That's a low cost for potentially decent (not high) upside. Had we given up more I would be feeling very different about things.

If this is our only move I'd be very disappointed, but this is not a bad start to trade deadline season.

I'm not a big GMBM fan but I think the Hagelin move is all upside for him.  Unlike Shattypants, Hagelin could make a huge difference and there is no downside.  He didn't give up much and he isn't replacing anybody that matters much.  He will definitely be good on the PK and I bet his speed really helps.

The only thing I am a little concerned about, as noted before, is he might be a jerk in the lockerroom - he has bounced around a lot!

I don't know much about Hagelin, but interested to know why he has a reputation as a locker room jerk?

I don't think there is any hard evidence of that. But this will be his 5th team at 30 years old, usually that means he doesn't fit in well in the lockerroom

Wondering if Hagelin can replace useless Burakovsky.

Overall feeling pretty good about the roster and depth. Boyd and Jaskin aren't bad at all for 13th and 14th on the forward depth chart (assuming Stephenson and Dowd are the way to go). And if Jensen comes up, Orpik or Djoos aren't bad as a 7th.

According  to Caps Today the Caps have Monday off so it will be interesting to see when we see Jensen.  I would think that they would want him to have one practice before he plays in a game.
