Evening all
We got the chip, we got the chair.
all bets are off.
-
This is Lindgren’s first NHL playoff game.
-
I suspect some shennanigans........
-
8pm start, my bottom! >:(
-
Afternoon Lil.
Website seems jacked again. Slooow.
House money! Zero fucks!!
-
pp time
-
Maybe it's just the blue against the ice, but the Rags look twice the size of us.
-
I see the refs want their tv time today.
-
We're gonna need to mind our manners this game, especially considering who the refs are. we will get punished.
-
I see the refs want their tv time today.
The call on Rempe was deserved, probably should have been boarding instead of interference. The trip call on van Riemsdyk was questionable. Now the matching minors.. could be the refs trying to keep this game from getting out of control. I see that potential happening.
-
Website seems jacked again. Slooow.
It’s very intermittent, still don’t know why it’s happening
-
I see the refs want their tv time today.
Yeah, I know right? Seems like they're trying to inject themselves into the game like all the fans paid to see them today?
-
pp time ..
-
tie game after 1
-
Come on Oshie! Park your arse in that blue paint!
-
Well we 'aint losing yet, but how many SOG's that period? 8-0
must try harder.
-
1st period SOG.. Caps 4 - Rags 7. Not enough by the Caps but good that they limited the Rags to 7.
it sure was nice of Fox to run their 5 minute commercial block right as intermission started.
>:(
and 2 minutes later we get more commercials, what a phukin joke

That's all I ever get in the intermissions. The same ones on a continuous loop. :clown:
-
I've been to a lot of Caps games in the past where the Caps totally outplayed the other team, but let them hang in there and then there was a lucky bounce against them and game over. That's the type of game we need and the first period fit perfectly.
Now if Pacioretti doesn't do anything stupid the rest of the game, that will help.
Chucky looks sharp and he is our only chance in the series.
-

I never did see what Fox did to piss off Pacs.
-
We're gonna have to move out of first gear at some stage......

Inevitable.

Serves us right.
We're plaing like we don't want to be there. :clown: :clown: :clown:

-
Aw crap! The Capitals don't have the firepower to overcome this.
-
Anyone ever went a series w/o scoring a goal? We're in that territory. Maybe lucky bounce or two, but we don't have anything that resembles an offense. :-(
-
:poop: :poop: :poop:

:lmao:
Our boys don't give a :poop:

GOOOAAALLLL
WILSON

nother pp …

Site reeeeaaalllyyyy slloooooooowwwww tonight. And no (more) emotes.
-
::)
-
Fever!! I was too late with my bitchin' though. :snicker:
Better hope Jensen or Sandin can go Tuesday.. Iorio probably done for a while with a separated shoulder. :-(
-
Oh joy. pp. :-| Wonder if we can get a shot on goal.........
-
NHL dot com still says that’s Wilson’s goal. I expect that to change.
-
SHOOT THE UCKING PUCK YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!
:headbang:
-
Oshie is a turnover machine this game. :(
-
Glad I'm not losing any sleep for this pathetic display of mediocrity.
-
there was a bit of scrum after the cameras cut out for intermission, expect some penalties to start the 3rd.. hopefully offsetting
-
So why no discussion of boarding on the Iorio injury? Announcers didn't say a word and that was a very dangerous shove into the boards that easily could have been called a 5 minute major. Then they do talk about the potential interference on Kempy taking out Malynstyn - which technically was a penalty but you won't get that call in the playoffs.
I agree on Oshie on the turnovers and there have been a lot of poor passing decisions - but what I could not believe was Ovi passing when he finally had a wide open shot from his office with nobody in sight!!! He could have skated all the way to the goal if he wanted but why the heck didn't he just blast away???

What are the odds it's Willy and Patches?

Dreaming of golf. :raspberry:
-
It would be nice if we got some skating and energy out of Strome. Sometimes he looks so slow - like tonight, and other times he can skate just fine.
-
There's plenty blame to go around.
-
I dont know why I was expecting more from us this game. Just the usual delusional Caps fan I guess. :koolaid:
::)
-
And I so wanted us to stick it to "the Toilet".
-
nother pp ….
-
Joy.
-
the NHL did change that goal, Fever from Willy
-
Oi! Mickey! A little help here!
-
MICKEY!
WAKE UP!
-
4 fucking lines and not one can generate a scoring chance. Much less a high danger one. :(
-

I think you might need to do better than that luv..
-
Ring a ring of roses......... :lmao:
-
Patta cake, patta cake, pass it again....... :stupid:
-
Wonder if we can go the whole period w/o a sog, entering 2 goals down! Just doesn't make any sense.

About what I expected in game 1. The real test is how, or if, the Caps respond in game 2.
-
Best team won. We didn't even start plaing till 5 minutes left in the 3rd.
:bad:
-
Espn a week behind I guess. Still 4-1 here.
-
Oooh look. Our boys fragile egos are hurt.
-
Espn a week behind I guess. Still 4-1 here.
Nope. One minute to go, but the fat ladys tuning up.
-
Caps Lose G1 4-1.
-
If Chucky had played the same half-arsed way the rest of the team did, the Rags would be in double figures.
-
THAT WAS RUBBISH.
-
I'd like to see Sgarabosa get a start in the next one. He brings energy. I'd love it if they put him in for Pacioretti, but they won't disrespect a highly acclaimed vet like that - they should, but they won't.
-
The only thing that springs to mind watching this is:
The old guys are slow.
The young guys are slow.
There's an overall lack of talent.
Other than that, everything is great.
-
Caps looked slow all night long. I bet the ice wasn't good, but the Rags were fine with it. They beat us to the puck all game and skated circles around us.
Would have been good to see McIlrath knock a few teeth out of that stupid Kempe smile.
-
Toodle pip peeps. :(
-
I mean, for what looked like a 60 minute penalty kill, 4-1 isn't bad. :O= No skills, no speed is hard to overcome in todays NHL.
-

Agreed. We're overmatched, especially with half our defensive corps injured.
One good thing to come out of this is that Alexeyev gets primo minutes, so management can really evaluate what we have in him. He's 24 now - it's time to figure out what his role in the organization, if any, is going to be.
But it's not going to be great to have the inevitable result of this series be accompanied by a #17 pick in the draft. We can only hope that Michael Hage is still available when we select, and he turns out to be something worthwhile down the line. That's about the best we can hope for.
-
Sorry to say, this is about what was expected was it not? The very best (record) team vs a team that got in by the skin of its teeth. A really really good team vs a mediocre team. Pretty much what it looked like too. I certainly hoped for more, but honestly the Caps look tired as well as out-matched.
Officiating sucked in both the calls they made and the calls they didn't, but i don't think special teams would make a difference for the Caps. Rags are #3 in both PK and PP, so we don't really want to go down that road. Honestly this game could have been a total blowout; Rags had some great chances that just didn't go in. I can't say that about the Caps.
Hockey is a funny game though. Maybe we get some puck luck and we steal a game or two.
-

If not Sgarbosa, then give Miro some playoff experience. At least the kid looks excited to play. Plus, he can't do anything more stupid than Pacs robbing the Caps of a n early PP chance with a dumbass, unnecessary crosschecking.
-
My chagrin about the game was not the loss, but the total lack of effort by our boys.
First game of the playofffs and we're playing half - arsed for a reg season game.
That's just really, really not good enough to me.
Look, we squeaked in on a wing and a prayer and I wasn't expecting us to blow the Rags out of the water, but I was expecting some level of compete, or pride. Some heart.
For a few of our guys, this is their first taste of the NHL playoffs. They take their lead and cues form our old guard and they're not setting a very good example so far.
Ovi ignoring an open net to pass instead. Oshie, usually strong on the puck, being a total turnover machine. Soft, lazy passes from everybody. Our only player who seemed to give a shit was Chuck and the rest of the team let him down immensely, imho.
It's like Kuzy pissed in all their water bottles and infected them all with his attitude.
-
Good post - I agree on everything and you are absolutely right that the lack of effort was really, really disappointing. I didn't expect to win, but thought we would fight a lot more. There was one point that I thought Ovi was going to engage as he tried to make a big hit, but that was it. He looked old, slow and disinterested.
Maybe they will show up next game. That has somehow happened in the past.
-
I still don't get that there has been no discussion of what I thought was a nasty boarding of Iorio. That could easily, and in my opinion should bave been a 5 minute major and a hearing on a suspension. Iorio has a couple feet from the boards and leaning and the guy pushed him headfirst - that could have ended really badly.
I hate to use the "if that had been Tom Wilson" thing, but it is a fair comment in this case, and if it had been Wilson, there is no question in my mind he would have been penalized, thrown out of the game and suspended.
-

Im pretty sure we are all on the same page with that. But, personally, I do get tired every now and then of pissing uphill into the wind.
-
I ALWAYS check out (thanks Alta) who the refs are. Many of the old biased bastards have gone, but there are still a few left. Refs have their tendencies and preferencies. What they will let slide, what their bug bears are.
There has been a whole new generation of refs come through recently and they seem less influenced by "Toronto" and the golf set than previously.
Don't get me wrong, Vegas is very much the shining light these days, whereas the sun that used to shine out of the Penguins arse is very much dimmed.......... :P

A bit like being a Caps fan then. ;)
-
Refs have their tendencies and preferencies. What they will let slide, what their bug bears are.
This is fine, as long as it’s consistent, and consistently enforced on both teams.
I used to watch rounders a lot. There were umpires behind the plate that were very inconsistent during a game. What was a strike in the 1st inning wouldn’t be by the 4th, but would be again by the 7th. Those umps had very thin skin when called out on it.
-
If I was a youngun'', take Milly for instance, but it could be ANY of 'em, but I would need to make a speech. .....
" I came here from a winning team. A serial Calder Cup winning team, to play for a Stanley Cup winning team. Once upon a time...... I thought that was to improve my hockey skills, not my golf handicap.
This may be my only chance, my only opportunity........ An injury, a concussion.......... any split second this dream could be over.
I ain't here for the laughs. Take a shit or GET OFF THE POT. Some of us want to play. Some of us aren't so good at losing as you old fuckers!
Some of us may never get this chance again.
YOU OLD BASTARDS HAVE A RESPOSIBILITY TO US. "
-

Lest ye not forget...the game was in NY...for some reason the refs ALWAYS favor the Rags in NY during the playoffs.
Think its only ever been worse in a few SHittsburg series than vs NYR in NY
To me I dont think it was total lack of effort. Some yes, but they just looked gassed. It's not that the would not compete, but that they could not compete.
Still..you got to get up for the big games.

What a load of bollocks luv! We played like a herd of three legged donkeys.
-
I don't think it's lack of effort either. Like Hillbilly said, they just couldn't/can't. We need good things to happen to compete. Someone needs a snipe or a lucky break to get us going, then we can stall and keep it close, hope Charlie stands on his head and hopefully come out on top. But we don't have any firepower to "make" something happen.
Oshie, love his effort, but his coordination has fallen off a cliff. He can't hang onto the puck at all anymore, even worse than Ovi. Ovie's hit or miss. Wilson has gone missing for a long time now. Paci never showed up, outside of a few games when he first got healthy enough to play and even then didn't put anything in the net. And that's our "star" power..
Hate to say, but Carlson is the only star caliber player doing his job. Good on him!
Just gotta hope and pray the kids take another step in the offseason or it'll be another year of fucks and god dammits. Hoping for a lucky bounce and headstands tonight!! :cross:

Disagree. You can't crumple like a bag of potato chips from some little shove. It's not like his back was to the guy. He was trying to carry the puck out and was shoved from the side. That play was a real bad look for Iorio.
-
Similar to the Jensen hit. Bad time/place but nothing egregious, imo. Those boards are dangerous. You have to be aware and do what you can to not take a tumble head/shoulder first, if at all possible. Still haven't heard anything more on Iorio, other than what I posted in the bored thread. (Heard he said "it popped" as he went past the bench hunched over)
And yes Beags, had that been Wilson he'd of probably got a major and review. That's the NHL we have these days.
-

So I agree this was NOT a horrible hit and that Iorio needs to protect himself better, however, it definitely could have been called boarding based on where the player was (4' from the boards) and the onus is on the attacker NOT to hit the player and put him into a dangerous position. The first line of the NHL Boarding rule pretty well applies to this hit:
(Note) Boarding is the action where a player pushes, trips or body checks an opponent causing them to go dangerously into the boards. This includes: Accelerating through the check to a player who is in a vulnerable or defenseless position and driving an opponent excessively into the boards with no focus on or intent to play the puck, or any check delivered for the purpose of punishment or intimidation that causes the opponent to go unnecessarily and excessively into the boards. The onus is on the player delivering the check to avoid placing a vulnerable or defenseless opponent in danger.
(a) A minor plus a misconduct or major plus game misconduct penalty shall be assessed for boarding an opponent. “Rolling” an opponent along the boards where he is attempting to go through too small an opening is not considered boarding.
(b) A major plus game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who recklessly endangers an opponent as a result of boarding.
(c) A match penalty for reckless endangerment may also be assessed for boarding.
-
"Boarding is the action where a player pushes, trips or body checks an opponent causing them to go dangerously into the boards."
Hmmm, never seen that before.. By that definition both the Iorio and Jensen hits were definitely boarding!! :raised-eyebrow:
-
The only reason that Iorio went "dangerously into the boards" is because he wasn't strong on his skates. Players aren't going to see every hit or shove coming and they can't just go down like a soggy waffle when they get touched. This was also quite different from the Jensen hit where the puck was long gone and he had no reason to expect that hit coming as it did. The Jensen play was definitely a penalty. The other one wasn't.
