So Oshie, who was out "indefinitely/long term" missed 11 games. Orlov, who as far as I know was "day to day" is on game 10 and counting and not traveling with the team.. :clown:

It not as if our fellas are giving me much reason to stay awake.

Looking like a reversal of fortunes from the last game.
You cant win if you don't score.
Time for some Big Boy pants. From anybody!
ANYBODY???
-
Why do we keep passing to someone who's pinned gainst the boards? Looks like lots of panic offloads. :-(

Sloppy, sloppy, lazy plays.

Well, we bust the shutout at least.
And guess who it came from? Somebody who should learn to play more D. :lmao:
-
Oh, Lindy. :'(
-
burn the tape, get ready for the next game
-
Thank goodness that's over.
I thought we were quite competitive in the first period, but it went steadily downhill from there.
Pretty rubbish. Awfull passing, giveaways, panic passes. yuk!
All credit to NJ. They were all over us. Lindy Ruff's 800th win.
-
Amazed I managed to stay awake to watch this shit show.
Night all.

Two bad bounces for Lindgren, and Vtec must’ve had ten rabbits feet stuffed up his back side for this match up. Generally speaking though, the Caps looked like they played well most of the game.
-
I only watched the 9 min condensed game...which was pretty much just a NJ goal highlight reel. Actually not true - the 1st ten minutes looked like all Caps and they could have had a 3-0 lead, and they did appear to have many glorious chances throughout. Lindy looks like he goes down teensy bit early sometimes. Not knocking him for when a sniper bounces one off his ear and in from an impossible angle - or the fact that the GT is consistently left out to dry by the team in front.
Carlson looked horrible as usual...well at least he was well represented in the highlights of the OPPONENT scoring anyway. I know he gets a lot of minutes so it only stands to reason he will be on the ice for some opponent scoring, but he is consistently playing poor defense. He and Eller were both a -3 for the game. Not really what you want out of your Norris candidate. Gustafsson and Mantha also a -3. Eller rang the crossbar, but he also should have had a primary assist on the giveaway to Hughes.
I didn't see the whole game so I really can't say, but nice to hear they competed. Problem is they are very suspect on D and when you don't score, that's not a recipe for success.

I wondered the same thing about a week ago. might as well put him on 10 day IR retroactive at this point. Although...doubtful the Caps need any more short term IR cap relief

I never saw an official announcement from the team, but they must have moved Orlov to IR a few games ago. McMike had to be moved down to make room for Oshie. Someone else will have to be moved down when Orlov is ready. A team can only carry 23 active players, 2 of which are goalies. If Orlov was not on IR the Caps would have 24.
The more interesting part of this, to me anyway, was how the team publicly said Oshie was out long term and they implied Orlov would only miss a couple games.
-
In case nobody noticed, Seattle is having a pretty good season so far. Their leading scorer is Andre Burakovsky who would also be tied for the Caps point lead if he happened to be here. That was a bad move by management and Vrana for Mantha was much worse. Yea, Vrana has issues right now but the guy is a very good hockey player. You can't make those types of moves and not regress just as you can't give aging veterans 8 year deals.
-
They traded Vrana, Panik, a 1st and a 2nd for Mantha.
They gave the Avalanche Burt for some dude I've never heard of and a 2nd round pick.
They gave the Devils Seigenthaler for a 3rd round pick.
Some of the absolute worst moves in franchise history..
-
Burt and Vrana needed to move on to improve their game. It’s happened before, it will happen again. It’s a bit early to tell but Vtec might be the same. Trading Seigs was a joke. Same for whatshisface they sent to Nashville.
Right now it looks like Strome and Milano have earned spots. Definitely Strome. Caps are gonna have to cut someone.
-
Caps are gonna have to cut someone.
Since Gustafsson is about a clone of Carlson, for < 1/8 the salary, it'll probably be him.
-
I really didn't have a problem with them moving Vranna. Yes, great talent, but a one-way player that just wasn't getting it done. They way overpaid in the trade, but much of that was moving Panik's salary which was a necessity. I'm not as down on Mantha as everyone else seems to be. He certainly is not performing to his salary currently.
Burka - meh that MF'r was a whiney bitch that was a drain on the whole organization. Yes underutilized here, but he had MORE than enough chances to man up and play here. He was WAY overdue for being shipped out. Paying him to stay here and not play would have been stupid. It was way past time for him to go when they finally pulled the strings on that. THe fact that he is playing better for someone else...good for him, hopefully he has matured. He just wasn't the asset he should have been here.
Ziggy...now THAT pisses me off. THat was just dumb. I know it was salary cap, but FFS he was the best real D man they had. Fever has actually done a good job stepping into that role (maybe earlier than expected), with probably better skating skills, but yeah - moving Ziggy was a mistake. Imagine if we actually had Ziggy instead of ....that Norris candidate guy. We might actually keep the GAA below 3.5
-
I wouldn't call Vrana a one way player. One way players usually stink it up 5 on 5 and Vrana was a plus player every season he was here including +20 in 2018-19. He also had back to back 20 goal seasons (24 & 25). Mantha hasn't cracked 20 goals in 4 years and is a -32 for his career.
As for Burakovsky, he was used horribly being stuck on the 3rd line and/or short shifted constantly. Without his play in the East final we don't make the Cup in 2018. He was also a plus player every year he was here. If you are going to move him, at least get comparable value.
No idea why they moved Siegenthaler.
-
Well, for whatever reason, we like shipping off young forwards who score goals and now we can't, score goals.. And we send off young defenders that play defense and now we can't, defend. Go figure?
They better pray Miroshichenkenovinchkin pans out in a hurry, cause we're still cap strapped and have absolutely NOBODY who's got true top 6 talent in the pipeline. And winning games 3-2 or 2-1 with our D is a mighty tall order.
